There are three flagpoles behind the slabs, which today at half mast had the US flag, the North Carolina state flag and the POW-MIA flag. The center slab reads, "They stood in the unbroken line of patriots who lived to bear their country's arms. They died to save its honor and keep aglow the flaming torch of freedom." The All Veterans Memorial located in downtown Asheboro between the old and new courthouses pays…read moretribute to those who died from Randolph County in WWI; WWII; Korea; Vietnam; Lebanon; Panama and the Persian Gulf Wars. The names of each of the men and women who paid the ultimate price for freedom are inscribed in the granite memorial. POWs and Wounded Warriors are also acknowledged. This is one of the nicer memorials I've seen.

Yelp merged it with the one I reviewed on August 4, 2025 that is in Carthage. They are 40 miles apart and I can't be bothered to argue with Yelp about fixing their error. *] This marker is just to the south/east of downtown Carthage and points out some pre-Civil War history. The marker has the same text on both sides. It reads, "This street is the route of the Fayetteville-to-Salem plank road, a toll road 129 miles long, built 1849-54." It is marker number K-26 and it was erected in 1948 by the Archives, Conservation and Highway Departments. The 129-mile toll road built between 1849 and 1854 during a statewide push to improve transportation infrastructure. Inspired by similar roads in Canada and the northern U.S., it was part of a broader plank road movement that saw nearly 500 miles constructed across North Carolina by 1860. Despite initial enthusiasm and investment, the roads proved costly to build and maintain, and were quickly overshadowed by the rise of railroads, particularly after the North Carolina Railroad opened in 1856. The Civil War and economic downturns ultimately ended further development, leaving the plank roads as a brief but ambitious chapter in the state's transportation history. The guild has a very full store, with numerous artists represented & a gallery space for showings. I managed to stroll in 10 minutes before they closed and Penny didn't make me feel rushed at all. She happily directed us to the gallery portion and then I hunted through the store to find a little art treasure to take home. I love whimsical art & fell in love with one artists works in the store! Penny took down my email and sent me information on the potter, so that we could connect! Talk about above and beyond. I love the commitment to the arts- connecting artists is so important to the craft. I appreciate that they had items for all budgets, too. This was definitely a favorite stop and I look forward to returning in March and popping in again!

I also went on a trip to New York with a group of friends an we took the Holiday Tours Bus service…read moreout of Greensboro NC, It was a all Black Group, an we were treated Terrible, discriminated against, they gave us one of the worse busses and driver. The bus also broke down, we had to wait for over 7 hours for another bus to get to us, We just decided to cancel the trip and they wouldn't even give us our money back. WARNING Stay AWAY from this tour bus service they are rude and terrible. After this they stated that we owed them money. WHAT A SHAME!
