We start with light warm-up and three rounds on the heavy bags. We then pair up for pad work. Coach Josh Flamm is a no-bull and very pragmatic coach. He's in-tune with strengths and weaknesses of his students. He's encouraging without over doing it. And since there are no belt promotions, no extra fees, you know his motivation is to coach. Even if you decide not to become a competitive boxer, you'll still be guaranteed an exhaustive workout. Don't let "competitive boxing" intimidate you. If you don't wish to compete, you can train for years and years without ever stepping into the ring with an opponent. Jump rope, heavy bag, mitt work -- all great exercises, whether you choose to compete or not. Plus, everyone is welcome. At any time there might be beginners training alongside pro boxers. There are kids at Contenders Boxing and there are old timers, and everyone in between. I've seen whole families, mom, dad, and kids, all training together.
