1 Star -- Serious Concerns About Ethics, Communication, and Transparency This was one of the most concerning professional experiences I've ever had. I retained this firm during a highly sensitive divorce and domestic violence matter. Like many clients in this position, I was relying on them for guidance, protection, and advocacy during a very difficult time. During the intake process, they were extremely confident--stating they regularly handle cases like mine and assuring me they could help. Based on those representations, I paid a retainer of over $4,000. What followed raised serious red flags. I was never provided a meaningful face-to-face meeting despite multiple requests. Communication was limited, and there was little to no substantive legal work performed on my case. After taking my retainer and reviewing my situation, I was abruptly told they could not assist me and they withdrew representation. Even more concerning, I was billed beyond the retainer. The most alarming issue, however, was learning that there were discussions involving my ex-wife during the time I was their client--without my knowledge or clear explanation of what was discussed. As a client, not knowing the nature of those communications raised serious concerns for me regarding confidentiality, transparency, and whose interests were actually being represented. At a minimum, I expected: * Clear communication * Transparency in all interactions related to my case * Alignment and advocacy on my behalf Unfortunately, that was not my experience. The intake process was polished and convincing, but the follow-through did not reflect the level of professionalism or client care that was initially presented. When i told him my story about how my childs father and I were going through a messy custody battle and how his father was giving me such a hard time. I told him how stressed I was and how it was affecting me negatively. He proceeded to shame me? tried to imply that I must've done something terrible to his father for us to break up and pretty much was giving the impression that he was siding with my child's father. I found this alarming because I had never actually asked for his input. Was simply giving him background on the situation and in no way was this an appropriate response. I immediately felt uneasy about him but proceeded to give him a shot anyways because I was desperate. He then charged me an insane amount upfront. I paid the price and in one month my childs father dropped everything on his own and decided just to do 50/50. in my opinion Jo didnt do much Regarding my case. he pretty much just filled out a few pieces of paperwork showed up to court maybe once or twice and then proceeded to charge me nearly 9,000. Oh and when I mentioned the ridiculous price for such little work on his end he proceeded to "discount me" 1000. I never asked for a discount but instead I showed concern as to why I was being charged so much. He promised me this discount and even though I wasn't necessarily satisfied I agreed because what else can I do? A month or two after everything was already settled and finished he proceeded to send me another invoice for....... suprise! a whopping one thousand dollars. For what you may ask? For phone calls. Phone calls that somehow amounted to 1000. As you can imagine I was confused because like I mentioned the case had already been settled and everything was done For about a month at that point. Who was he even making phone calls to? And if he was making phone calls why was I not notified of this and why did a few phone calls result in the exact amount he "discounted me". Overall sketchy situation and it seemed to me that he was only trying to make as much money as possible while doing very little work. I've seen a good amount of reviews on here that say that same thing as me, including how he makes questionable comments towards women regarding their situation. He seems to also take advantage of people already going through a lot. Oh and I'm pretty sure all those positive reviews on his yelp are actually fake. if you're looking at his reviews thinking of giving him a shot please don't make the same mistake as me. Theres many other family lawyers that will respect you and do a much better job for possibly less money. I retained Jos to help me navigate my child custody case. After I paid to retain him, I wasn't able to get in touch with him for over a week. I found out that he was working with opposing party. I immediately could see that he does not feel comfortable litigating and fighting for the best interest of the child. I went through a "very challenging" divorce with 4 children that kept me in court for a decade on and off. I used another firm with two different lawyers and was able to measure how effective they were as compared with Mr Jos.
