I never thought I'd be searching on yelp for a funeral home, as I've never had to work with one directly. I was supposed to be going on a cruise with my partner, I flew out from California, and sadly, she passed away suddenly right after I got here. I live in California, she lived here, and we kept this crazy cross country relationship going for 20 years. We had a. Helluva run..... I called, and I spoke to Bernie. He was the primary person I worked with. I came in for my initial visit, he sat down with me to explain the process He was patient, caring, and he listened to what I had to say, We even talked about a few things that helped lighten up the conversation as well. He knew just what I needed to hear. We made arrangements for them to pick up the body, for the cremation, and for me to pick up her ashes for a later scattering in the Atlantic Ocean. I mentioned it to him that I would like to see her one more time, and we made arrangements to do it the next day. I had earlier stopped by her apartment, there was a suitcase there, and for some reason, I decided to put it in the car. I'm glad I did, because he asked if I had access to clothes. We picked out a nice outfit for her, and also, she used to golf herself, she loved watching professional golf, and her PGA tour baseball cap just happened to be in the suitcase. So we got that for her as well. I came back the next day to see her, and Bernie advised me that her face did have some bruising because it appeared that she had rolled out of bed right before she passed away. I told him, that's OK, I still wanted to see her one last time. It wasn't as bad as I was afraid it might be, but I'm still glad that he let me know ahead of time. They did the cremation, and I picked her ashes up a couple of days later. Everybody here was nothing but 100% gracious, friendly, and helpful, they understood what I was dealing with. I was so pleased with all of the services offered for my mom's funeral. Of course, it was a very emotional day. I have attended and planned several funerals in Kingston for family throughout the years, so I have a good history of comparisons. Bernie and all of the staff at Leahy funeral have been wonderful and so kind and accommodating. Bernie literally took everything off my hands and created a wonderful and most touching celebration of my mother's life. From the flowers to the memorial cards to the building accommodations and wake and to the graveside memorial, I couldn't have asked for a better celebration and comfort in our time of grieving. My Dad Suddenly passed away on Tuesday June 6th and by June 10th Will and his father Bernard (The Owners) had everything set up and ready to go with very minimal work for me and my family. I was here today july 2nd attending my great aunts wake when I was rudely asked to remove my autistic child . If this is how they treat family members who are grieving I do not recommend using them. They are rude and said to a friend of mine who was there with me ( who bring a child like that to a wake). First of all that is his right to be able to say good bye to the women he called Grammy. When my son died in 1998 Leahy Funeral Home expressed a level of kindness that was truly beyond what we would expected. Their decency I can not forget. My wife and were not from the area but our sister law who was from the Kingston recommend Leahy to us. Losing a child is the most awful experience anyone can have I believe. They handed the arranges in a respectful and kind way. They also handed the passing of very decent man who left this world too soon and with much heartache for his family and friends about 3 years old this November. The care, compassion, competence, and professionalism displayed by Will Gray and all the staff at Leahy's made a very difficult time much more bearable. Will was always available, and very flexible. With my five siblings & myself planning our father's wake & funeral services, I am sure it was not easy on Will's end as there were many moving parts. We had a beautiful service in our father's memory, and the support Will and his staff provided allowed for this.
