DEATH BY NIGHT IN NYC: How my Hospice RESTED INPEACE Early in 2024, I volunteered--and it was, indeed, an honor-- to attend to the end-of-life needs of a cancer-saturated friend. Thus, with affection tinged with grief (and terror) I reconfigured part of my house into a Hospice for the dying. Together, we maneuvered through the nine months of his descent. And suddenly, it was over. Within a few hours of his death, his corpse was skilfully removed by the employees of InPeace. HOW and WHY? Because the deceased, entirely without input from me, had e-researched and signed a no-frills, pre-death contract. One of their managing partners, Ryan McGinley, had interacted with him (both telephonically and in person) during the set-up. Everyone (including the deceased, a forcefully outspoken Army Veteran famous for NEVER suffering fools lightly) seemed to have genuinely appreciated his tact, his style, and his appreciation of the ironies associated with death and dying. At 10PM on the night of his death, he was breathing. Two hours later, he wasn't. I grieved. Then I made some phone calls. At 4AM a nurse from the Visiting Nurse Association arrived to confirm that he was, indeed, dead. At 7AM, Ryan and a colleague from InPeace arrived to haul away his corpse. Clockwork. Painless. No Frills. No Fuss. Respectful. Clean. Efficient. Professional. And Final. And--with no intention of being disrespectful--astonishingly affordable. His ashes were delivered, along with bona fide Death Certificates, within about ten days. DID YOU KNOW? That there's been a revolution in "The American Way of Death?" Increasingly out of favor are attempts to replicate Barbara Stanwyck (remember her?--blonde, beautiful, wearing couture, and in mourning?), within a venue overflowing with flowers, congregants, and clerics gravely reciting Golden Oldie classics. What I mean is that in spectacularly well-funded circumstances, a scenario like that might be WONDERFUL. But in zillions of other settings, a low-cost, low-drama, no-frills alternative might be better. Such was the motivation and loudly stated intention of the deceased in the months before he became incoherent. It was within the context described above that InPeace performed with impeccable professionalism, taste, and good manners. My father became ill and had to be hospitalized on March 9, 2026, in Staten Island New York and within a week's time the hospital said that my father would not survive. I looked online to find out about final arrangements because I had not ever had to make these kinds of decisions before. I saw InPeace and their website was easy to access and navigate. Ryan contacted me the same day by text message and he was very friendly and caring. I told him that my father had not passed away yet, but I was interested in their services. He said I could contact him whenever I needed too, he was very considerate. My father passed away on the morning of March 24th, 2026. I contacted Ryan and inquired about what he could do to help with the process. He was again nice and exceedingly kind. He offered me a payment plan for the package I chose. I paid the first payment plan of $750 which he split into 3 links that I could send to separate family members. They were able to retrieve my father's body and complete the cremation process while they kept me informed the whole time and awaited the final payment. I picked up my father's ashes on April 17, 2026, from the funeral home in Union, New Jersey. I had to travel from upstate New York, and I arrived a little late, but they were exceedingly kind when I arrived. My father died in Staten Island, New York and living upstate New York I had no idea how I was gonna handle everything. InPeace was amazing and kindhearted, and they made the entire process remarkably easy. I knew my father's final wish was to be cremated, and I do not know what I would have done without all their help. I know it is not traditional to use online services for end-of-life arrangements, but everything turned out much better than I expected. Thank You so much to InPeace. I would like to highly recommend InPeace for funeral and cremation services. I found them after getting several estimates from other local New York City funeral homes, which varied greatly and were generally 2,000$ and up. As per the wishes of my beloved fiancee who passed, he only wanted cremation, so InPeace worked out perfectly for us. They were able to pick him up from the New Jersey hospital where he passed, get the death certificates and then meet the family in New York. Ryan was extremely helpful and professional, and filled several lockets and urns that we brought with the ashes. The whole process took about one week, and only cost 1500$ , the lowest price I'd seen for this area! It was just a very seamless and professional process, and they were able to answer all our questions along the way. This was such a blessing after the very traumatic experience of my loved ones passing and the unimaginable grief we were processing, we finally felt like he was treated with respect and honored as he should be. In Peace handled it all sensitively and empathetically, and at a cost ordinary people can afford. Matt and Ryan were always available, even to the point of my having a call returned from one of them while they were on their way home after work. Everything about this experience was as positive as such a sad duty and responsibility could be. Furthermore, I know the funeral-home industry has been consolidated into a few large corporations that have bought local funeral homes and retained their local names, driving prices upward. Funeral arrangements are insanely expensive. I can only hope that In Peace's alternative model disrupts that industry. But even beyond this, I've found that other funeral homes in the past while I was helping friends/family were all "professionally nice" without seeming genuinely empathetic; I get it -- you do enough arrangements, you don't have the bandwidth to really feel for the client. But Matt & Ryan did, as evidenced by their emails and texts. I cannot say enough positive things about them. read more

I use Inpeace services November 12, 2025when my cousin passed away! I had set up the services a week before, that was the best decision I ever made. When my cousin passed I knew exactly what to do, and who to call. They were amazing! The week before my cousin passed I started the process on line, it was easy to follow, very easy to do. it's never easy losing a loved one, we needed someone who could help fulfill our loved one's wishes and we came across Ryan from Inpeace. My Dad was transferred to Westchester Medical for care and unfortunately passed away there. We experienced an unfortunate death in November and needed to have a cremation done. Being out of state and trying to save money we nearly bought into a scam.
