I was referred by my PCP in February for neurological issues. I finally was able to schedule an appointment for MAY. I saw the doctor, and he was fine. He ordered an MRI of my brain to rule out any problems. That's where things went south. They referred me to a facility that was out-of-network for my insurance (apparently they couldn't be bothered to check), then dropped the ball. I had to call back, several times in fact, and they gave me the name of another MRI facility to call and the number. So I tried to call -- that number did not exist. I was able to find the correct number and called. Guess what? They had never received the orders from JWM! Apparently JWM staff had faxed it to the wrong number. Who knows where my medical info is now??? Anyway, I called JWM back and left a message (you can never talk to an actual human) with the CORRECT fax number. Several days went by -- crickets from everybody -- so I called the MRI place again and scheduled the appointment, assuming (stupidly) that the paperwork had been faxed. I got a call from the facility the day before the MRI telling me they still hadn't received insurance approval for the scan. I checked my insurance account online and the referral had NEVER been submitted by JWM! I know, shocker, right?? The MRI appointment was canceled, I immediately called JWM and left a message (again, nobody answers the phone) telling them what happened. That was over a week ago and I've heard nothing from JWM. Interestingly, I have a follow-up appointment next week to discuss the results of my MRI. What a joke! You mean the MRI that hasn't happened yet because nobody wants to do their job? What are we supposed to discuss? I've had it and am going somewhere else. I called a new neurologist's office this morning and they asked if I've seen a neurologist before. I relayed this story -- without mentioning any names -- and was told, "I'll bet I can guess where you went." She assured me those things would never happen at their office. So today I have changed the referral with my insurance company, contacted the new doctor's office, and have an appointment. All in the same day! Back in the beginning of this fiasco, I was warned about the office staff and the problems. I'm just sorry I didn't heed the warnings. It's now almost July and I've been waiting nearly five months to find out my issue. I will NEVER go to any of their offices again and will tell everybody I know to steer clear. Received a referral from my cardiologist to JWM, and was told they would call to schedule. 2 weeks later, I called to check on the appointment since I had not heard anything. I left a number for a callback. Nothing. 35 days after the referral I called again, and finally received a return call. The "lady" that called me had a total case of attitude. Before receiving the call, I had researched the practice reviews. I responded to the attitude by explaining that I understand why they have a 1.3 rating out of 5, and had neither the time nor patience for such nonsense, and would seek another practice. I have a very complex medical history and I am new to Indiana. I must say, when it comes to neurology, I am not impressed. Be your own advocate, or have someone knowledgeable advocate for you. But you do NOT need to tolerate this behavior from ANY medical "professional." Too bad ratings do not go below one star. And yes, it was the office staff, not the doctor giving me attitude. I can't speak for others, but can you trust a physician with your healthcare needs who obviously can't even monitor or control the office staff? I can't. I have had extensive experience with neurology, neurosurgery, cardiology, hematology, both vascular and orthopedic surgery in the Cleveland Clinic, OSU, UC, and UWV with top notch treatment across the board from skilled professionals referring me when an issue was outside their scope. Unfortunately not my first rodeo. But there is absolutely no reason for such treatment before ever seeing a physician. If some wannabe office sergeant can't handle a simple referral, what will happen when you really need information relayed to your provider? I didn't request the appointment, myself. My cardiologist sent a referral on my behalf. I will be making certain he reconsiders referring to this office again. i've been going here for years. Their office staff is HORRENDOUS. It didn't use to be this bad. I feel like things went downhill after Covid, just like everything else. This office is a joke. 1. Dr. Lichtenstein has a HORRIBLE bedside manner. 2. I called to confirm an appointment to save myself a 2-hour drive, and 24 hours later they still had not returned my call. 3. The phone routing system is full of grammatical errors and is ineffective to boot. If you call, go ahead and anticipate being hung up on. 4. And this is what BLOWS MY MIND: they let a BRAIN-DAMAGED patient cancel a NEUROLOGICAL appointment without confirming that information was correct with her facility or her family. Reading my first review from 2017 really reminded me how far I've come in my journey to get my migraines under control and how horribly my migraines disable my life, when the pain is left unmanaged and improperly managed. Now, in 2021, I feel I finally have decent control over them, as long as my medical needs and medications are met. Timely is the key...and that's the only frustration that remains for me sometimes, when working with this office. The staff is unbelievably professional and kind. I've lost my temper a few times thru the years out of pain and frustration. Yet I have always been treated with professionalism and understanding. I've watched other patients walk in and begin yelling at staff up front about things that are completely out of their control and the way they handled it was seriously impressive. When I mentioned it to my neurologist, she explained that they know how pain effects people...and often it makes them angry. I can sadly relate. Hence, a huge reason I want my pain managed as best as it can be. This office has fought back and forth with my insurance for as longs as it takes to get them to approve needed medications and given me samples to get me thru. Ultimately, I'm glad I stayed with this office. My daily chronic migraine is, by my standards, decently under control. I'm still debilitated 3-5 days a month, but that feels like nothing compared to 20+ days a month. There is still an issue of things slipping thru the cracks with voice-mail requests. It won't happen for quite some time and then I seem to hit a wall of it happening several times in row. This is clearly a busy office, and in all other areas I'm pretty happy. read more

I have been seen as a patient at this office for years for seizures this last visit was not the best I didn't have my normal head to toe neurological examination like in the past after waiting in the exam room for 2 hours for my Neurologists. My BP was so high, (I have PTSD) the BP cuff wouldn't register & they put me in a room. i asked for another BP reading & I was told "That paperwork is the most important right now!" Dr. Lichtenstein entered the room & kept telling me I was in the wrong place. He wanted to make sure & argue about everything I said from paperwork to referrals. He kept telling me my issues were not Neurology related, but ENT related. I was referred by an ENT!!! He has a Neurology degree but failed miserably in bedside manner. He has a HORRIBLE attitude, won't let you speak, we were treated like we were at the BMV & the staff sucks equally. They are all buttholes & my BP was 195/146 when I got home! I was fired as a patient when I lost the ability to walk, all because my mother called and left a message for Dr George who had been seeing me at the office and she wanted her to know that I was in the hospital. They told me that it would be 100 dollars for them to fill out my short term disability forms as well. I paid that, but because I said that it was expensive and my mother called them, I apparently pissed someone off. This was a long time ago, but apparently they still did not want to see me. Tried to call based off doing a lot of research and reviewing the website to schedule and appointment because I am really anxious and I didn't want to waste anyone's time, was on hold for 5 minutes which is totally fine, but received serious attitude when I tried to vouch for myself needing an appointment. I would give zero stars if I could. I saw Dr. Diokno and she was so cold and rude. First she was 45 mins late to my appt. I get there are other pts but I was the only one there. No one had gone in before me, the other rooms were empty. She did not listen to me. She told me basically to seek in patient psych help. I have a degree in psychology. this is not in my head. As soon as she saw I had PTSD she said my tremors and seizures were in my head. I see a therapist for PTSD. it is under control. I am in a very healthy place mentally/emotionally. My experience with the practice started out great, but has gone down hill over the last few months. In the last 30 days, I have reached out SIX times (between voicemails and the portal) and haven't received a call back. It's becoming painfully (no pun intended) clear, that this practice has grown too large and can't keep up with the patients they have. I have reached out to my referring doctor and asked to switch practices. When I first went to JWM Neurology I was hopeful. That was quickly changed with the lack of responsiveness to any message sent to the office staff. If you aren't calling in to give them money, you spend forever on hold to schedule an appointment, if you aren't doing that your only other option is to go to the online portal. I have heard for years about how everyone loves the Neurologists, but the office staff is not responsive with phone messages and unfriendly. I had an appointment today for an EEG. I went to the normal office where I see my Neurologist, and the nice lady there told me it was down the hall in another office. When I walked in to the second office, the lady at the desk was eating chips and did not say anything. I asked if I was in the right place for EEG's. She did not answer the question, but said (while still chewing her food) "What is your name?" I answered the question. She continued to eat, and I asked again if I was in the right place for an EEG. She said in a very agitated tone while still chewing her food that I needed to wait a minute. She then stated that I have a balance and would I like to pay it. I knew I had paid it and tried to show her the cleared check statement. She said that she did not to see it, and asked me again to pay it. I finally said that her manners were not good. She yelled back at me and said that I was yelling at her, what her name was and said I can talk to her manager. I never changed the tone of my voice and my voice was quiet. I went to sit down, and the man across from me said he was so sorry. She then made a phone call to her manager in front of myself and the rest of the patients talking about me. After the appointment, the very kind EEG tech walked me over to the other office desk. I asked the lady there about my bill. She was very kind, and said that sometimes it can take a while to show in the system. She also gave me a card for the billing office to help me. I have had wonderful care and have so much respect for the Doctors in this group. I have been a big fan of Dr. Josephson for decades. They would be embarrassed by this woman , Julie, not greeting patients, chewing her food with her mouth open while speaking and being unhelpful and rude. read more

I've had a single appointment with this office and I already have to get a new referral for a different neurologist. Doctor may be a great doctor, I have no clue because outside of initial visit, it's IMPOSSIBLE to get in touch with ANYONE at this office. You'd be better off showing up there - which I cannot do as I cannot currently drive. Weeks of being hung up on, no returned calls, still no appointment and no MRI scheduled... I have only seen him twice in a year and a half every other time it's an assistant, they never call you back they don't put in prescriptions when they say they are. this place is god awful I will be looking for a new neurologist next week total disregard for your well-being. read more

If I could give fewer stars I would. My son is a patient here. The doctors are ok but the staff (and system) sucks. IF by an act of God you're able to get a return call after your 50th call, they are rude, lack compassion and are generally disinterested in actually doing their jobs. My son had been a patient of JWM Neurology for epilepsy since early 2017. He saw 4 different neurologists at 3 of their different office locations. We had no problems with the office at the Community North location but when he moved and then had to transfer to the St. Vincent location and there were many issues with communication. The transition itself was horrible because he ran out of medication before they would schedule an appt for him at the new office. Video calls would be scheduled then we would not receive the call. This happened many times, twice after we had reported to the office that he had had a seizure resulting in an ED visit. The doctors (Fisch and Kobza) did not bother to find out why they did not reach us. This was a failure of the office to make sure my son had the capability to receive the call. And video calls were mandatory during the first year of covid. When ever we called the offices we always got voicemail and then messages were not always returned. We were never told about the communication portal until 2021 but the first time we used it we didnt get a response for a week so we did not use it again. My son was told he had refractory epilepsy but no treatment options were offered, only more medication. We changed neurology practices at the beginning of 2022 to Ascension Neurology and we were told at the first visit that there were at least 3 options for treatment. One involved a referral to the Cleveland Clinic. And they always have a person to answer the phone. I wrote a letter to the director over all of the JWM offices to express my concerns. I received no response so I decided to enter my issues with Yelp. Epilepsy is a life threatening illness. I never felt any compassion for the seriousness of his condition. JWM has a monopoly with the neurology care in this area. Maybe they are too big to be able to give the compassion that people need. read more

Asked me a couple questions and prescribed medication not covered on my insurance. My pharmacy has even reached out to them and haven't called back. Never have I seen a worse experience with a doctors office. With the long list of doctors affiliated with this office, it takes nearly 3 months to see one. My PCP called them to schedule an appt, then they were to call me with a date. Never happened from JWM. After a few calls of my own, finally got one. The Dr. was to schedule some further tests, 3 weeks later never done. Had to call to get it done. Left the office with no summary of the meds, then had to msg them to get the prescription called in, and the response was asking me what the dosage timing was - aren't they the Dr's? Their health app (myhealthrecord.com) is horrible. Follow up visit was over a month later only to be called by them again to reschedule a month out further again. So far, spent close to $1,000 and 5 months and don't have a prognosis. I called my PCP to refer me to another office, but they said this was just about the only neurology office in town. So disappointing! If you have to use this office, I hope you aren't anticipating high hopes for a cure. read more

The doctor was great but the staff has been terrible. I have only been able to leave messages with no returned call, no one answers the phone, the receptionist barely speaks to you and then cuts you off to send you to another answering machine. I had a prescription sent to the pharmacy on 2/17 that required a prior authorization. I have spoke with both the insurance company and the pharmacy and both have done all they can. Doctor and Physicians Assistant seem to be knowledgeable, and personable and answer all of the questions my wife and I had regarding her symptoms and potential diagnosis. However, the office staff leaves a lot to be desired. My wife has called in at least five times over the pas week trying to get an MRI scheduled that was awaiting and finally got approval from insurance and no one at the office is returning our calls. It has been so bad that a nurse at another doctor's office heard us talking about it and got us referred to the neurologist who treats her daughter who has the same condition as my wife. If you have a choice, find another neurologist office to go to. read more

I saw Dr. David Josephson as a new patient today. He was delightful. I never felt rushed during my appointment, he asked great questions, and took the time to get to know me. The waiting room staff was extremely pleasant, and I did not have to wait long in the waiting room. Perhaps many didn't show because the weather was bad, their loss... my gain! I should have read reviews instead of following my doctor's recommendation. First, they re-ordered a test that my daughter had already received a few months prior. The first test (from a different provider) had cost $40. JWM charged me $671. I called my insurance and they said it was how the test was coded, which JWM refused to change. They were insulting and rude. Furthermore, the second test showed NOTHING, which was clearly not the case. The first test showed a significant amount of issues and she still had pain. McGarvey; personally is uncaring. Lots of tests. Absolutely no feedback. Called 5 times to her assistant for my meds. Her assistant lied over over that she hadn't received one call. Thank goodness, the kind office manager pulled the logs. Proved the lies. My meds delayed multiple times in 2 years. And yet it continued to happen. More than once i was set up for tests at the wrong facilities. The last time we drove from Lebanon to Carmel. Wrong office. Told she was waiting for me. Race to Indy. Sat in waiting room for 10 min. as 1 of 2 people there. 2 behind the front desk stood and laughed and chatted. I asked if she was on time and was told that she was waiting for me and would be right in. 20 min. later she comes in. I was visibly upset, near tears in frustration. She dismissed me and my distress, asking if I wanted to speak to the O.M. Twice. No. I wanted empathy, concern, acknowledgment ? Never going back. Took me 2 years to figure her out. BTW. I had a migraine for 2 months and went to visit their office. They told me that you don't just start getting migraines out of the blue, you have them your whole life. They ordered a ct scan of my head and a small tumor was found. This was august of 2019 and they have yet to call me to tell me that it was found. I have a new neurologist and neurosurgeon that wanted to see me asap. While trying to contact this office they never return any phone calls and if your lucky to get a call back they not compassionate and are rude and in a hurry and quick to just send you to the er. I would give zero stars if I could. I had an unexpected grand mal seizure which resulted in a major auto accident. In the ER that day, the staff called this practice, wanting me to be seen the next day. No word back by the time I was discharged, so I left a voicemail requesting a call back. Nothing. Next day, my husband left a message. Nothing. Next day, I actually got someone on the phone who took my info to pass along to scheduling. Still no call back. I've since left two more voicemails and, now at a week since that initial call from AN ER DOCTOR, no one has bothered to return any of the SIX messages we've left. This is beyond pathetic. I don't want any resolution, I'm already jumping through the necessary hoops to find my own appointment somewhere else. If this office is so careless that they can't even return MULTIPLE requests for a phone call within A WEEK, I have zero trust in them to handle my neurological care. I have been dealing with this office since last March. My daughter has seen two separate doctors and they prescribe meds (which are not working) and send her on her way. They have cancelled and rescheduled her last 3 appointments. This is the most unprofessional group I've ever dealt with. The office staff is horrible. Called 5 times in one week explaining that Medicare wouldn't cover Aubagio for MS. Ampyra for foot drop. Dr. McGarveys assistant is a liar. She denied receiving one phone call. Office manager called her out and pulled the phone log witch proved I had called. Meanwhile I am not getting my MS meds. I was a new patient. I explained to Dr. McGarvey that if I dropped her it, it would be due to the office staff. Last visit McGarvey was rude, short with me and unwilling to address this. I am near tears. No I don't want to speak to the office manager AGAIN. She refused to deal with it. Saw me 3 times in 3 years. All she said was to order another MRI (last one in November or December.) No empathy for my situation. No empathy that I am now in tears. Uncaring, totally uncaring. Office staff didn't call as a reminder of my visit. Sent me to Carmel 45 minutes from my home in Lebanon. Sent to to the wrong office. Drove to the 86th st. Office. Only other person in waiting room. 15 min. later they finally acknowledge me. Is she running on time. Yes she waited for you. 20 min. later she strolls in. After this confrontation she walks me to the front desk. Says NO FOLLOW-UP, turns on her heels and walks away. I literally cried all the way home. On a more serious note, she looked at my list of meds and does not address the fact that I am on 5 psych meds. I just needed to sleep, rather than wean me off 1 med, before giving me another. So now I realize that I am dependent on these meds and I need to see a psychiatrist to addess the medication issue. . I realize I AM ADDICTED TO THESE MEDICATIONS! Now I am without a neurologist. She wasn't the one who prescribed them, BUT SHE SHOULD HAVE ADDRESSED IT. I have been diagnosed since 2001. I feel like every review that I have read are exactly like our experience. While the Dr. seemed competant, our case was passed off right away to a NP. Communication was horrid. Everything is run through an assistant and she is terrible about returning calls or following through on requests. At one point she was nasty with me for sending a message through the portal to the NP to get an answer about a medication problem. We have been told that we would receive information in the mail regarding our follow up procedures but that never arrived. We have been dealing with this office for almost a year and still have very few answers. We will be asking our family doctor for another recomendation as this has been an expensive process with a very unprofessional result. I had an appointment with Dr. Kobza the end of August, 2016 for an issue that happens at night only. She ordered an EEG and an MRI, which both were completed by the first part of November. I never heard anything, as I waited for a follow up call. Finally, I called in Feb. to see if she had come to any conclusions for my issue. The doctor's assistant/nurse said "no, you need to come back." Why didn't anyone follow up with me to let me know?? I thought maybe they were reviewing the case and would call back, which is what I was told by the people conducting the MRI and the EEG. Since the follow up was so bad with this particular doctor, I asked to switch to a doctor who was a neurologist specializing in sleep disorders. I was told that I had to be released by my "current neurologist" and that they would discuss at a meeting what to do. I asked if someone would let me know, and the person who answered the phone said "uh...you better call back next week after the meeting." I called back, and was told that possibly another doctor will be taking my case but he had to decide, and I need to follow up later. Are you kidding me? Why do I have to WAIT on the doctor who didn't follow up to refer me to another doctor who has to decide to take the case? Why can't I simply call and start over with someone else? Who is in charge of my medical care? This is the worst service I have ever experienced from a medical practice. I do not recommend this group. I would rather go to my dog's vet....at least they would follow up and tell me they didn't know what to do. I am a new patient of Dr. Varanasi as of April 2020. The care that I have received, or lack there of, since our very first teleappointment has been mind blowing. Dr. Varanasi diagnosed me with MS but refuses to explain my MRI or show me the imaging. She tells me that I need to contact the radiologist for them to explain their findings. The office staff is absolutely horrible and I have to call multiple times to get any sort of response. I asked for a referral to an MS specialist and was advised that one was sent but when I called the specialist's office a week later, they have no record of a referral. I was given two sets of blood work orders on two separate occasions, only to be told by the lab that the office did not put the correct coding for the lab to bill insurance. Therefore, I couldn't have bloodwork done. I absolutely advise against going to this doctor or the 86th st office if you want to get any type of neurological help. read more

If you are looking for someone with compassion and the ability to really listen to her patients, Dr. Vivio is 100% NOT the doctor you want to go see! She barely bothered to listen to me, was rude to me from the moment she walked in the door, and then asked me why I bothered to come see her when I told her one of the medications I was taking was giving me bad side effects and I wanted to stop the med. This was all on my first visit with her, EVER! Then she proceeded to tell me, through her poor medical assistant, that I was faking my disability!!!
