Recently assisted Josh Edelson on a portrait of a new vice president at a major US company in Seattle. Josh was great to work with -- very professional, easy going, and a good communicator. He worked with the company's media relations team to scout out four different on-site portrait locations in a short time frame. After he found the locations and prioritized each one, I stood in for the VP as Josh pre-composed and dialed in the exposures at each spot. Once the VP arrived we were ready to roll. Josh was excellent at directing the VP as I held off-camera lighting, allowing us to move quickly to each location. After finishing right on schedule Josh was able to edit and produce images on site for the PR team to approve. They looked amazing, the client was very satisfied. What an amazing photographer! We hired Josh Edelson photography to do about a dozen professional headshots of our team which we are now using on our company website and for advertising collateral purposes. Although I'm sure many San Francisco offices have beautiful city backdrops, our company is located in a relatively normal looking office park which is basically a parking lot with some trees. Josh definitely had his work cut out for him to try to make interesting backgrounds with such a boring set up, but he was fantastic! I don't know how he did it, but every single one of us look spectacular! He had a light on a stand with an umbrella and didn't even have it connected to power, so I don't know how his camera was communicating with the light, but it worked flawlessly. He even went so far as to hold a tiny tree branch with leaves attached partially in front of his camera to create an interesting looking green blur at the bottom of some of the pictures. I've never seen that done before, but it definitely adds a special little something to the photos! I had a recent photo session with Josh for a story I was a part of in the LA Times. It was the first time I have experienced anything like that. I could tell Josh was meticulous about his craft from the beginning, when we were trying to find an adequate place for the photos. The Times wanted the mural for a backdrop. Before the scheduled meet up time, Josh went to a few different spots to checkout the quality of the mural and location. Upon meeting each other, Josh informed me how the shoot was going to go. I wasn't expecting to be having my photo taken that many times and for that duration, but I went with the flow the best I could. It was a sunny, warm day and I don't even like having my photo taken really. Josh checked in with me and gave me good feedback the whole way through. He even, cleverly, helped me loosen up by asking me to talk a little bit about what the article was about. He was intrigued and sympathetic, being as it was about my family. I appreciated that. At different times, he showed me the shots and explained what he was needing to do to get the lighting he wanted. The story ran this weekend and the two photos the paper used look incredible. Josh Edelson was hired by APF (Agence France-Presse) to photograph me for a story that AFP was running. Josh scouted the location we decided on, and came up with creative uses of various features of the space, including the natural environment, structures, lighting, etc. I enjoyed his approach and actually had fun during the photo shoot. The reaction was a bit unexpected for me, as I'm not a public person and not used to having pictures of me taken by a professional photographer. On top of this, the pictures came out great! We ended up going with a solid gray background and Edelson Photography provided the lights and all the equipment. The biggest thing was that they made us all comfortable in front of the camera, something that isn't easy, especially for the shy guys. After all the headshot photography was done, Josh sent over a Dropbox link so we could choose our favorite shots which he then had edited for us. Josh did a fantastic job with our company's professional headshots! He's a mobile on-location photographer, so he comes to you which was super helpful since it would have been quite a challenge to get all our employees to leave the office at once. Josh brought lights, a backdrop and an assistant to our office and picked out a space in our lobby for all the headshots. We did about a dozen people in a couple of hours which was great because each person only needed to step away from their desk for about 10-15 minutes at a time. After the shoot, he sent us over about 5-10 unedited photos of each person so we could each choose which one we liked of ourselves the most, then he edited the best shots for us and sent them back over to us. It was great to be able to have agency over which photos we got to use of ourselves. So many photographers don't show you the rest of the pictures they take so we really loved that. Josh also was very professional and we're planning to use him again for all our other employees in our other San Francisco locations! read more

He photographed various keynote speakers, breakout sessions, and did a few head shots portraits for our out-of-town employees that flew in for the summit. Some of the rooms were not well lit. My company needed headshots for our new website. We had Josh shoot more than 50 headshots on a solid background and he did a fantastic job! He brought an assistant with him, setup all the lights, the background, and we were off and running.
