I am a current client of Dr. Josh and I live, and go to his Office in Tahoe. At about 11 am. I was in Gardnerville on unrelated business yesterday and my back started to act up. I called Dr. Josh at his Gardnerville office and left a voicemail to see if he could get me in at when they open, even though the message told me they did not open until 3pm that day. Dr. Josh called me back a few minutes later and told me he lived a few miles away and he would come in to see me. He was there in a few minutes and adjusted my back, then went back home. I was referred to Safe Haven by another medical practitioner, and I am so thankful for that referral! Safe Haven keeps a low profile and relies on word of mouth advertising. They truly are worth telling friends, family, and even strangers about! When I first found Safe Haven Dr. Stew was the chiropractor. His years of working with Doctors without Borders had changed his outlook on chiropractic care and made for a simplified business model. I didn't have health insurance so their flexible "pay what you can" model was a treat--and even allowed the whole family to get more frequent adjustments. I am from San Jose but rented a home for a week in Meyers, right outside of South Lake Tahoe. I was pushing around a heavy vacuum cleaner when I felt a stabbing pain in my back and fell to the floor. On the floor, I had my tablet nearby and used Yelp to find a chiropractor that was local and called Dr. Josh. On the phone he was very comforting and gave me advice on what to do next. He said he could stop by my place after his office hours, which he did. The treatment he gave me provided quite a bit of relief. Before the treatment, I could barely get around on my hands and knees and with excruciating pain. About 30 minutes after the treatment, I was able to walk downstairs to the bedroom, surprising my wife. Dr. Josh gave me his cell number and said if anything came up, to call him. What a guy! Having Fibromyalgia, I can not tolerate adjustments from most chiropractors. Doc Josh is NOT most chiropractors. First off I have never been to a chiropractor but I had been plagued by pain in my ribs/back and neck for quite sometime. Normally I can stretch these areas by myself, but this time I couldn't and it was affecting my sleep/waking me up from the pain. My wife and I were on honeymoon in South Lake staying at the Lake Tahoe Vacation Resort and definitely "out of network" for medical care. So we checked on Yelp and found Dr. Welsh. He accepted walk-ins and was walking distance from where we were staying! He made me feel very comfortable, asked all the right questions and answered all of my concerns. After my adjustment - which was painless (I was a little apprehensive), he showed me some stretches to do to help keep my back happy. After becoming seriously injured in a car accident a few years back I unfortunately have been to multiple Chiropractors and have become familiar with the difference between a Chiropractor who genuinely cares about his patients and has the knowledge to help them and the ones who are only after the $$$$. Dr Josh is without a doubt one of the rare Dr's who actually cares for his patients well being and will go above and beyond to make sure they are on their way to good health. I previously treated with another Chiropractor in SLT but after issues with an mis-billed insurance problem I woke up one morning to find myself in great pain and no one I felt comfortable treating with. I called a couple different other locations in town and unfortunately was unable to be fitted in for an appointment... when I called Safe Haven and explained my situation he told me to come right in and he would stay late to take care of me despite being a new patient. I was exceptionally pleased by the very thorough evaluation he gave me and the precise adjustment's I needed. Because of the great care I have received at Safe Haven I have continued to be a regular patient for over a year now and have always been exceptionally pleased with the positive impact the adjustments have made on my health. I have also suggested his practice to friends and they have also been exceptionally pleased with the care they received. The philosophy of Safe Haven is to treat for good health instead of just treating the illness. They really do care about their patients and good health in the community in general. It's not a traditional medical office feel of lot's of health care workers treating the illness instead of the person. I have also treated with Dr Jordan on a couple of instances and was also very pleased with his adjustments as well. Another big plus is that they also offer adjustments for dogs which is very hard to find. We have taken our pet to be adjusted multiple times and he always is happy to get a quick once over.I really wish more medical professionals would carry the same philosophy that Safe Haven does. I've been going to Dr. Josh for a few years now very sporadically. I have anxiety around any kind of doctors and so I don't go as often as I should even if my body needs it (also maybe I didn't always have the money). I don't live in Lake Tahoe anymore but I visit many times a month and I'm going to try harder to make it to Safe Haven when I'm there. I saw him at his new location because I felt like crap. I'm only 33 but my body feels like it's pushing 90. I hadn't seen Dr. Josh in many years and he still recognized me. He worked his magic on me and I felt better. Dr. Welch welcomed me as a tourist here in Tahoe and his care was extraordinary. I'm pregnant and came off an unexpectedly bumpy boat ride with a thrown back and severe sciatica that left me nearly unable to walk a day later. I looked up area chiropractors on Yelp and decided to give him a try. He was kind, paid attention to my issues, worked very carefully with me and my pregnancy, showed me exercises, and was even willing to work with my insurance - giving me a lower rate. I have been going to Safe Haven for 12 or 13 years. I have also worked for Dr. Stew & Hillary. I LOVE going there! I have grown, gotten healthier, felt better, become more balanced & centered with the wonderful adjustments, love, care & I have learned so much from them. I have grown spiritually, mentally, physical, emotionaly & am in alot less pain than before I started being adjusted regularly. I know that going there has changed my life & my sons life. My son is almost 19 now but when he was 4 he was "diagnosed" with kidney stones. We were in & out of hospitals in Reno, the Bay area & Sacramento. We never knew when it (he was going to passing them, normally it was several stones @ once) was going to happen & our whole life was on hold when it did happen, usually for a couple to a few weeks at a time. The Doctors didn't know what was going on as he was the 51st child in the United States to have what he had. They kept running tests. They kept putting him on different drugs, that would cause severe side effects, which in turn they would put him on another drug to take care of that side effect. It was a domino effect. Eventually he was taking several drugs. He was getting horrible leg cramps & nauseated & vomitting constantly. Then someone told me about Safe Haven. We both started going there when my son was in second grade. I took him off ALL the drugs, started doing organic diet as well as I could & changed his eating habits which wasn't to drastic since we already ate healthy. We started getting adjusted regularly & he didn't have 1 kidney stone for a few years. He very rarely gets one anymore. When he does its usually when he hasn't been getting regular adjustments. Since then my son has had Dr. Stew speak in his home school classes & he promotes the huge difference chiropratic has made in our lives & with his health. It has changed us both for the better! We are so grateful for The Bittmans & for the awesome people they are & the incredible difference they have made in our lives. Working with them for about a year I saw many miracles & wonderful stories from getting adjusted. Its a blessing to get adjusted & feels so good! My dogs LOVE going there & getting adjusted too! Dr. Josh has recently bought the practice. We still go out there weekly. We love the things Dr. Josh has to offer. He may be "NEW" as a Chiropractor but he is VERY knowledgable & gifted. Horrible wreck on snowboard= bad whiplash!!! I see a chiro regularly, but due to a horrible wreck on ski vacation, I went to see Dr. Josh Welch. Twice. I had really badly pinched nerves that resulted in some neuropathy too. He was able to get me in for an appointment IMMEDIATELY, and he manipulated my neck back into it's proper place and brought the rest of me into alignment too! I have lived in South Lake Tahoe for 20 years and have seen five different chiropractors in this area. I can say without any hesitation that Dr. Josh has provided by far the best care and services. Dr Josh is the only chiropractor I have seen who has provided immediate results. I left his office after my first visit feeling noticeable relief from my ailments. My husband even noticed a difference without me even mentioning my recent adjustment to him. I was very surprised to see another reviewer describe Dr Josh negatively. I have never found him to be awkward in the slightest. He is not at all in-your-face, if that qualifies as awkward, but I much prefer a gentle personality anyways. Overall I have found him to be incredibly compassionate and informative, and most importantly, a great chiropractor. He worked on me throughout my pregnancy (which I credit for my fast and easy labor) and I continue to trust him to work on my infant child. I could not disagree more with the negative comment left about Dr. Josh. My husband and I moved to Lake Tahoe in June. The day we got here my husband became very sick....He had horriable migrains, body aches and could barely get out of bed. After going to the ER he was told her had altitude sickness and there was nothing they could do for him. I've never seen my husband in so much pain and we would have done just about anything to make him at least more comfortable. A friend of mine who has lived here her whole life suggested we see Dr. Josh, that he may be able to help my husband. I was very skeptical, but it was worth a try. Because my husband was in so much pain, there was no way he was going to be able to withstand the car ride all the way to Meyers....I talked with Josh and he drove to our house at around 8pm that night. He was very easy to talk to, explained many things to us and answered all of our questions. My husband was VERY comfortable with him. After he adjusted my husband he offered to adjust my whole family, and did. We had got to Tahoe the day before and after being in a Uhual for 13 hours he did exactly what I needed. My daughter is in sports and he too helped relieve some of her pain. The next day my husband woke up with no headache and feeling like a new man. Oh, and did I mention that at the time we were broke! After moving expenses we didn't have anything to give to Josh. Not that that mattered to him. He seemed very concerned about my husband and understood our sittuation. I am now 9 months pregnant and go to Josh for my lower back pain. He is extremly gentle but get's the job done. I walk out of his office everytime feeling revived. I am personally writting this review because I googled his name since I lost the number and wanted to talk with him about my upcomming birth.
