Los Sapos has something for everyone. However on Sunday there is this great little market where you can find all kinds of items, from old watches, to Jukeboxes. For me a Sunday strawling around Los Sapos is always a perfect way to spend my Sunday :-)

It's next to a big church, and around the corner. Many of the vendors are the artists themselves, so they know their goods. Most of them do not speak English, but if you are good with your Spanish, they're willing to negotiate on the prices. I found a cool black handmade shirt here for a few bucks. Score! The vendors take down their booths around sundown. A little earlier if there's bad weather. They sell only stuff that the tourists would take home, but the variety of goods is much better than you'll find in the other more permanent markets. Since the vendors don't really have to set up permanent shop, the prices are much better too. The market goes on for about three blocks, with lots of little tables and people calling out to you as you wander by, checking out the goods. I was glad that the vendors are not aggressive with their hawking of their wares, they leave you alone if you're not interested. There are some antiques here, but I didn't find anything that I had to have. I'm not sure why this is called the Alley of the Frogs. I didn't see any frogs when I was here. However, it is somewhat of an alley, as it's just a pedestrian street where no cars can pass through. I felt safe here, as there were cops hanging out, and making the tourists feel at ease.

Gringos beware! My…read morewife and I took our computers into Abaco Computers yesterday. I needed two small things but my wife had a bigger problem. I wanted a new (cosmetic) cap for an end post of the laptop's watch hinge, but the technician explained that they didn't have one. I also had a loose screw on the back plate that required a star screwdriver which he quickly tightened. He then turned his attention to my wife's computer. The problem was that the 3-way laptop sensor wasn't working. The laptop screen goes black in laptop mode at less than 130 degrees. It should work at much less. I believe the technician correctly identified that there was an issue with the flexor or signal bus that communicates with the keyboard from the screen and/or the hinge. The technician explained the problem but said any work he did would invalidate our US warranty. He said it would take weeks to get a new part. He did not attempt to fix or reconnect it which I thought would have been an easy thing to do. Then, he charged me 200 pesos. He hadn't done anything and wasn't going to charge me, but being an American I said "Well, what do I owe you?" expecting a small token. He seemed surprised that I'd asked. He was laughing and smiling at the Mexican customers and employees. Then he said a dollar and I handed him 20 pesos. Then, still laughing, he said "No ten dollars" and I gave him a 200 peso note. They were still laughing as we left. I was too embarrassed and my Spanish was too poor to protest, but it was very clear that I received a special "Gringo Discount."
