I was moving cross-country and crashed and totaled my truck in Hutchinson. I ended up needing to ship all of my stuff the rest of the way. Joy's was recommended to me. It was a busy Monday morning, with a long line almost out the door. Although Joy herself did help me, she was not friendly. She was very generous with repacking my things using an above-necessary amount of packing material without asking me. And most embarrassingly, she unpacked every one of my boxes in front of all the other patrons in the store. She would make joking comments and was uninterested in how humiliating of an ordeal she had put me in. All of my belongings did arrive, so Joy did her job. read more

I recently had Joy pack and ship over 50 pieces of crystal stemware. The boxes travelled to San Diego from Hutchinson, KS without a single break. This job took a considerable amount of time during the busy holiday season. My experience with Joy's Packing could not have been better. I stayed at the hotel across the street and had to ship a couple things home. Location: Ample lot parking. McDonald's across street for snacking. Close to nearby Walmart. Close to nearby Home Depo. Joy is a professional - skilled and efficient. She will get your goods delivered in perfect condition! I shipped a huge cast-iron dutch oven to Pennsylvania through Joy's and when they removed the box I had packed it in from the scale, they felt the bail handle move against the box. (The iron pot inside weighed 80 lbs) - it was a MACA brand 17 inch oven. She put my box into a larger box, with more packing layers, and did not charge anything for the re-packing or added materials. It arrived safely in PA, and the buyer said it was the best packing job he had ever seen. This was a no-longer manufactured item, now with collector value, and Joy took excellent care of it. She will do the same for your valuable items even if they are not that challenging to pack and ship. I'll be back to use her excellent services again! read more

I had a very bad experience at this store today and was treated very poorly. I prepared a package as directed, but then the store personnel and manager refused to send it, with petty excuses about return addresses. They claimed that the package could not be sent as it was prepared. BTW, all it contained was paper. The owner, Joy, made a snide remark, as I exited the business and said I would complain, then, since, how I was being treated was unacceptable. I ended up going to a competitor who gave me no hassles or excuses and I got prompt, courteous service from the competitor, too. The other business person who helped me said that there wasn't any problem with the way my package was addressed, and offered me a way to track my package to ensure the intended recipient got it as soon as possible. I followed up via phone with "Joy," after sending my package via the competitor. I told her again, that I did not appreciate how I was treated in her store and that there were no problems with my package as addressed or sending it or getting confirmation status from a competitor. And, I got treated respectfully by that competitor. She claimed that there "were rules," they had to follow. But, their rules aren't any different than the competitor's rules, which are dictated by the various carriers (UPS, FEDEX, USPS). Those same "rules" were applied by the competitor to respectfully, professionally and courteously offer me service and send my package in the most expedient manner possible....without hassles, snotty remarks, bad service or ill-treatment. She made a noise and hung up the phone on me. I will not go back to this business. There is no excuse for the crappy service and how badly I got treated today. It should never be that stressful or difficult to send a simple package, after working all day. read more

Wow, how could there be that negative review? Although I suppose that WAS a few years ago. My experience with them was awesome. I live in Seattle and needed to ship some things back here after my mom (in Hutchinson) passed away. This was framed artwork, including an original Thomas Hart Benton. We dealt with Kim (not to be confused with her twin sister!) and she was extremely professional and competent. And when we opened the boxes after they arrived, we were so impressed with the care taken in the packing. Cardboard to protect faces of paintings plus foam sheets and bubble wrap, plastic sticky sheets on glass to prevent breakage (and sheets were easy to remove), plus cardboard wedged to prevent corners of frames from hitting corners of boxes, etc. etc. I would feel very confident using them again. They have some great greeting cards in there too! and boxes of all shapes and sizes. read more

Great service, have used Joy's many times and came back to rave about them some more. The ladies work so hard and take care of anything I need just the way I want. I always have options. They will let me know the best way to safely pack and ship just about anything as I sell a lot on ebay. Even advise me on items that may be oversized that may need a freight company. The girls know what they are doing for sure. They actually care and i highly recommend them. read more

I purchased an antique rocking chair a year ago, family was afraid to ship it to Oregon from Hutchinson, KS. I flew to Kansas to ship the chair and a lot of other personal family heirlooms. Things that could not be replaced or even put a value on. I called Kim when I arrived and she was so pleasant, giving me the information I needed to get started gathering what I wanted to ship besides the chair. When I arrived Joy greeted me at her business with open arms. A special box had to be ordered which of course I new it would. Joy's Packing & Shipping packed all of the things I was shipping to Oregon. The box arrived as scheduled, weighing in at 96 pounds. It was very well packed and everything arrived in perfect shape. We had a lot of peanuts but I located a volunteer organization (here in Portland, OR) that was so happy to get 15 bags of peanuts to use for experiments with kids. Over all Joys is great, fast service. I am a regular customer. There is an older lady that is not friendly at all. I normally will buy a card from Joys to put in my packages. She is normally extremely inpatient while waiting on me to write a (very short) message in the card to put in the package. Considering that I bought the card from their establishment that's not acceptable customer service! I Will no longer buy cards from there! Not only that situation, every time I go in there she's just very unfriendly! The other to ladies are extremely friendly and kind. read more
