We had the pleasure of taking a sunset ride on 4/17/2024. With it being early season my friend and I were the only guests, yet they still accommodated us. We so enjoyed the VIP treatment and learned so much from our driver (apologize forgot his name). He was so informative and had a great personality and smile. On our first day of wine tasting, my wife and I drove to 3 wineries. At the 1st Winery, we met J.R. and his tour group. After talking with J.R.we found him to be very friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating. We booked him for a wine tour for the next day. On the next day, we met Jed, the driver, with the horses and wagon. Jed was very friendly, professiona, and knowledgeable about the wineries and the area. Jed also was very accommodating. He asked our group (7 total) what types of wine we liked and he took us to 4 wineries according to our input. It was a great time and definitely a lot better than driving from place to place. We were both very disappointed after paying $500 to go on a four hour tour. We were only taken to three wineries and had to pay full price for each of the flights tasted on top of the fee we already paid to go. Everyone in our carriage was disappointed in the first two we visited. According to the flyer we had on JR's Carriage Service the drivers would be providing a historical and informative narrative along the way; instead the two drivers talked amongst themselves the entire time. We do not recommend this tour to anyone traveling to Palisade to do wine tours. read more

Outside of one of the wineries on the tour I really felt that the horses should've always been parked/resting in the shade, which they were not. Being 100 degrees, I felt more attention should have been given to the horses. The driver was thoughtful enough to put herself and the passengers in the shade but could've moved a few feet to let the horses have relief as well. One of the horses appeared to be especially anxious. I am not a horse caretaker so am no expert but just thought it was quite hot for any animal to be in the direct sun like that even for short periods of time. read more

We had the best time with Joe and Katherine on our sunset carriage ride. It really set a romantic tone for the first night of our honeymoon. Both hosts were incredible giving us a lot of historical and geographical knowledge with personality enough to keep it interesting. We were able to enjoy a bottle of wine on the trip and canoodle as the sun set over the vineyards and the mesas. It was perfect! I cannot say enough good things about the wine wagon!!! We participated as a small group of four, celebrating a bachelorette party on Saturday afternoon. Wow, did we have a blast! We went to 5 wineries, a lavender field where we did an olive oil and balsamic tasting, and the distillery. Our wagon driver, Kason, was absolutely amazing. She explained a little bit about each stop, and she was also extremely informative about our surroundings, as well as our team of incredible horses, Molly and Sarah. Kason was very laid back and made everyone on our wagon feel comfortable - all ages (21 and up) and all occasions are welcome. We were picked up at 10 AM (with the other people on the tour) at the Wine Country Inn and taken all over town to 4 or 5 wineries, a distillery, and a brewery for lunch (ending about 4:30 PM). I went on a wine tour with JR's Carriage Service and had an incredible time! Joe Burtard, Owner of the company, hosted us around Palisade on this exciting adventure! Our group parked and gathered at the Wine Country Inn where Joe arrived with his horses and carriage. Wow! What beautiful horses. These Clydesdale horses are mesmerizing creatures! We all hopped on the carriage and the tour began, winding in and out of Palisade back roads, stopping only at the friendliest of wineries in town, where they each allow complimentary tastings with generous pours. The fun was just beginning as we made our way through the beautiful countryside, vineyard, and local fresh fruit stands. At lunch time we stopped at a park in the middle of this quaint town and had a picnic lunch. After getting back in the carriage Joe even offered us a chance to take the reins and lead the horses - what a thrill! A few more stops at wineries and then we made our way to the first part of town. Joe had plenty of stories and jokes to share to keep the ride ever entertaining whenever he could get in a word between all the excited chatter from our group of friends. Instead of heading back to Wine Country Inn to end the day, we were escorted to the local Peach Street Distillery and neighboring Palisade Brewing Company to spice things up a bit with a hard beverage or cold beer. At the end of the evening, and lots more fun and laughs Joe returned us to the Wine Country Inn where we called it a day. If you are a local, or someone from out of town wanting to experience Grand Valley's Wine Country you must book a horse drawn carriage tour with JR's Carriage.
