On Thursdays the museum is open from 10:00 am to 9:00 pm and there is no charge to visit the museum. You won't be disappointed. There is always something interesting to see and learn for every age. Last Thursday evening, my daughter, granddaughter and I attended the event inspired by the Aminah Robinson exhibit. We enjoyed making an art project, seeing local talented artists and their work, hearing moving poetry and live jazz, eating delicious food and visiting Aminah's art exhibit again. It was a spectacular evening attended by interesting people enjoying the night together. There are usually a plethora of vendors set up selling handmade crafts such as jewelry, crocheted hats and throws, wreaths, bow ties, beauty products, paintings, photographs, blown glass...you name it, there's someone selling it. There weren't as many tonight, which could have something to do with the fact that it's 3 degrees hotter than hell outside. Usually, it's packed. You'll see musicians set up on the streets and shops will be open a little late. This is really a fun and interesting little reoccurring event held in downtown Mobile!

I did it in the first try, but I've always been good at that. I got a try for my honey and I was surprised how well she did, but it's tough.  The Baldwin County Strawberry Festival began in 1987 as a way to honor the area's strawberry farmers and their contributions to the local economy. Originally held on the first Saturday in May, the event took place in downtown Loxley before moving to its current location at the Loxley Municipal Park in 1999. The festival date was also changed to the second weekend in April to better align with the strawberry harvest season. This year's 35th annual Baldwin County Strawberry Festival promises to be an unforgettable experience for attendees. Taking place on April 13th and 14th, the festival offers free admission, making it accessible to everyone who wants to join in on the fun. Parking is free, the site is very close to the freeway, the museum staff are very friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful, and the displays are great. We took advantage of the free museum guided tour and learned so much about the history of Mardi Gras, like the fact that the first Mardi Gras celebration held in America was in Mobile, not New Orleans. That was just for starters. The displays are excellent, too, and they change periodically. The cost is pretty reasonable and there's a great little gift shop where you'll get a free moon pie at the conclusion of your visit. I'm sure we'll be back at some point!

Free to visit and across Zeigler/Springhill Boulevard from Langhan Municipal Park. This park is…read moremaintained by volunteers, has turtles and Koi fish in its waters. It has a waterfall and trails through the woods that I see many joggers and dog walkers utilize. Follow the trails you will come across a really cool bridge that has graffiti that is neat. Open dusk to dawn like all Mobile, Alabama parks. Good for kids, but no playgrounds or restrooms, try the park across the street for that. Good for dogs.
