Went here for what was considered the last weekend of this years season (October 1). Was a 35 minute drive from the plateau. Each tree has a color marker on it to tell you which type you're getting. We arrived around 12 pm. It was definitely full...but not obscene...big gravel parking lot with helpful parking attendants directing traffic! When we left around 2pm things were starting to get a good amount more full... Upon arriving they give you a big plastic bag and you can fill it with 20 pound of apples (18 $). You grab a little tractor ride into the fields. When we got off the tractor, they told us a good area to focus our search in. Lots of trees and ladders made for a fun time with friends and some cute photos :) Only negative for me was that it was a bit of a free for all, kids were hanging out of trees, people swinging ladders around...I am not sure if it is like this everywhere though?

This place is a hidden gem as it may be the closes apple orchard to Montreal. We love it because it's 15 minutes from our house! I've been coming here for 8 years and my wife has been coming here for 15 - 20 years. They had a great selection of apples and our favorite is to come in August when the apples are nice and tart! It's a family run business and their main time when they have tractors taking you deep into the orchards is in mid September. During this time it's a great family activity on a weekend and it gets pretty packed. They do have a good selection of local jellies and some apple and maple products. Also if you are lucky some fresh pressed apple juice. Price this year for a large bag of apples was $15. This is for a 10 pound U-pick. Selection of apples is cortland,lobo, macintosh. The Mcintosh are our favourite. I'm not sure the pesticide that they use but it would be a strong recommendation to wash them very well when you get home! Definitely a hidden gem. If you like the apples firm and tart in taste come in late August. If you like them more sweet and softer come later in September.

In the summer months they offer a farmers market. It's closed however in the Winter. Today I came here to pick strawberries with my daughter. It is an awesome mid June activity. Especially having the day off for St Jean. For $8 you get a great 3L paper basket and fill it till she's overflowing with some of the freshest and tastiest strawberries around. I didn't ask what pesticide they use here but I really wanted to. Makes me think.....I always wonder how much pesticide they use. They definitely need some but. I wonder how bad it will be for my health? The same basket you can buy a basket of already picked for $9 by the cash register. I bought the same sized basket for $12 last weekend at Marche Jean Talon. The taste of the strawberries was amazing. For me this is one of the many wonderful flavours of summer! Walking down to the strawberry patch today they did have a bunch of greenhouses chock full of tomatoes. In the late summer their fields are brimming with fresh corn also. Fresh fruit and vegetables at their roadside market store is a great inexpensive alternative to the grocery store. They also have some selection of fresh dessert pies and relishes and other canned delights. Parking is limited and it fills up fast. I'd recommend coming earlier in the day. After 11 AM the lot is full and much busier. There is a small playground area for kids and picnic benches if you want to bring a lunch and make a great family activity out of it. A terrific outdoor activity for a few hours and place to stop in and get a taste of summer!

If you go during peak apple picking season in September, expect to find large crowds everywhere! If you go in the beginning of October, it is much less crowded and you may even be able to find an available ladder in the orchard. I personally prefer visiting in the first two weeks of October since you can pick Cortland apples as they're the last type of apple to ripen and they keep really well. In September, it's too early for them and they're usually very small and unripe. What to know about visiting during covid is that you're not allowed to eat the apples in the orchard but then again, there's no enforcement of it so people do so anyway. There are lines to go into the boutique and bistro but you have the music of the live band to keep you entertained while you wait. They make some sought after apple donuts and the best place to pick up the donuts are at the Bistro. You can get them fresh out of the fryer and it's 6 for $13.75. They're not as appley as I had hoped, rather they're very doughy and cinnamony. They're best eaten fresh. We warmed them up in the oven the next day but not as good. So my advice is to get what you can eat immediately. If you want honeycrisp apples, those are available outside the boutique already picked, available in 3 sizes: 3lb, 5lb and 10lb. You can also buy other pre-picked apples and mini sour apples. There's a very tall sour mini apple tree located at one of the intersections in the orchard and the kiddies love eating them. If you're going during peak season, go early because the crowds swell as the day progresses. There's tons of parking around so that part isn't a problem. Since they're open year round, you could save the visits to the boutique for another time and avoid the crowds.

When we went, it was on a Saturday so there were many families but happily enough, there are more than enough trees to make everyone happy and to home with a huge bag. They have ladders dispersed throughout the area but could use more. They have deep fried apple donuts! It's literally a piece of apple covered in battered and deep fried. There's a huge line waiting for the donuts and honestly it's worth waiting for! The apples get really soft after frying and so good. It's $2 a piece but if you buy 6 or more, it decreases to $1.75 each. They recommended only a small number if you don't have a large family. To purchase your apples, you go through a large barn and you can see some of their products. I recommend the bottled apple juice as it's super fresh!

I found Fruiterie Val-Mont on Google, and loved it the moment I walked in. (In the US, there really aren't small corner stores with this level of product diversity and quality. Beyond that, the people are so nice, and the layout of the store, despite it's small size, makes it easy to wend your way through and get your shopping done. They have an extensive fruit and vegetable section. But some of the other departments were the real surprise. An incredible selection of cheeses, pates, meats, and wine, as well as spices and other lovely things. Since I"m staying in an apartment, I'm reconsidering going out to eat so much! Overall, I'm a fan of patronizing small, neighborhood stores who serve a local community. But this store is a real treasure. I'm sure I'll be back tomorrow, and probably the day after.

The selection is not gigantic and it's not the kind of place to linger about, I like the overall effect for me since I just buy a couple of items and go, rather than lounging and buying everything left and right. The veggies and fruit are always in great shape, no hidden half rotten ones in the packages. The tiny shop is stacked with all kinds of treasures, delicious pesto, oils, teas, chocolates, pastas. The best thing about this shop though is the owners and staff. They are so warm and friendly, they pop their heads around the corner to see if you need help finding things, they wave when you walk by, and they are always outside making their fruit displays shine.
