This is possibly the best Chinese takeaway place in Papakura, and my family visit this here…read moreprobably once a week for dinner. The staff are generally pretty friendly with a good sense of humour, and there always seems to be so many of them working in the small kitchen area. The portions of food that they dish out are large, and the special fried rice that they make here is always packed with plenty of meat and cashew nuts; One of my favourites. They have a smorgasbord here too, where you can pick and make your own concoction of Chinese food. There is an art to stacking those plastic smorgasbord containers though that I haven't quite mastered yet. By the end of it, the mountain of food looks a bit like Jenga!

Sure it's nothing special, no excessive decorating, you have to go through kitchen to get to toilet, handwritten ..some misspelt extras to the menu written on card sheets on the wall and no flash tables or chairs, but we like it how it is that's why we keep coming back ...and back again. The service is friendly, good atmosphere, nice food and the price is really good especially when comparing what you get to other places out there. Anyway specifically about the food...we have tried several different dishes over time but have now come to the point where we love it so much that we just order the whole duck everytime...this is eaten two ways ( 两吃 ) and maybe sometimes we order some veges too. The duck is cooked well and I could eat a lot more than what is given on the plate. So delicious it is!!! Other dishes we have eaten there over time meet the same standards. It can get busy at times as it is popular ....more so with locals. But no doubt there has been a few out of towners wander in now and then. They do take out also. It's inside a commercial building with over ten vendors offering a nice mix of cuisines: Vietnamese, Malaysian, Chinese, Mediterranean, and Korean, plus a few places for juice, açaí, and matcha drinks. We decided to try Eden Noodle, mainly because it had the longest line--which usually says something about how popular (and hopefully good) the food is. We ordered the pork ribs with rice noodles and the wontons in chili oil. We chose mild, but it was still quite spicy, so next time we'll definitely go for not spicy. The ordering process was super easy. You go to one of the three kiosks, grab a pager with a number, enter your order, pay, and wait for the buzzer to go off when your food's ready--it took about 15 minutes for ours. There's plenty of seating--tables, chairs, and benches--and you often end up sharing a table with strangers. That might feel unusual for Americans, but it actually reminded me of Hong Kong, where space is limited and communal dining is the norm. Overall, portion sizes were decent for the price, and the flavors were good--just a bit spicier than expected for "mild."

Absolutely chuffed that not only has Southern style BBQ made it to NZ but that it's as good as the…read morebarbeque I've had in both Texas and Memphis. Bareknuckle BBQ does it all - ribs, brisket, hot wings, pulled pork. Why's it so good? Well, firstly because they've shipped home the mother of all BBQs from Texas, a massive, 16ft smoker but, perhaps more importantly the owner, Jimmy knows how to use it. The meat has an incredible smoky flavour but is still deliciously tender, which is hardly surprising considering Jimmy drove around Texas learning off the famous pitmasters before opening up shop in NZ. Currently you can sink your teeth into Bareknuckle at their pop-up at No.1 Queen St but I'm crossing my fingers and toes that they'll have a permanent location soon.
