The lobby is on the third floor, and the workers are very nice and helpful. There's a kitchen that guests are free to use, and free pasta dinner is served at 8pm nightly (but this pasta dinner is literally just pasta tossed in tomato sauce). The rooms are what you'd expect in a hostel. Not amazing but it was also livable. I was in a female-only dorm, which had our own private bathroom and shower which was nice. The complaints I have are that: 1. The wifi doesn't reach the rooms so you have to be in the lobby to use it, and it's very. very spotty. 2. they use card keys but it's VERY difficult to use - i had to have my roommate open the door every time because it wouldn't unlock for me. And I know i'm not the only one with this problem because this happened to our other roommate three times throughout the night as well. 3. having to wait to be buzzed into the hostel can get pretty annoying, especially when no one answers for a while. But you get what you pay for, and the hostel got the job done - a warm place to sleep, a bathroom and shower, and wifi.

The subway is housed below the train station and there are many bus stops out in front. I stayed here a few nights, by myself, while exploring the city. I captured a great deal on their website for a single en-suite room. My room was clean and basic with a huge futon like bed, closet, and a small TV. I used the television to listen to the music on MTV as I got ready. I remembered it was the first time I had ever heard Christina Aquilera's, "Not Myself Tonight." I watched the video in amazement. I had been living in Europe for a few months and realized I was completely out of the loop! The first night the rowdy guys next door woke me up around 3 AM laughing about their hoochie house experiences. Supposedly, they went to a whore house and one guy got stuck with a nasty chick. Aw, boys will be boys. I made a plan to come home shit faced or not at all, if I wanted to be able to sleep peacefully the next night. The bathroom had a small stall shower, medicine cabinet, and a hairdryer. Thank GOD for the dryer because I hadn't been able to fit mine in my minuscule carry-on. It also came equipped with towels, which is included in the price, unlike other hostels. The vibe of the hostel is young, laid back, and fun. They house a great selection of beers in the bar, including my fave Spaten. The bar also duties as the check-in counter. The social/eating area was large with enough room for groups, as well as smaller high tables and chairs for independents or strays like myself. There is also a hospitality area if you want to cook yourself up something to eat. Down the hall is a computer lab, if you didn't bring your laptop. It was 1 euro for an hour. Across the street is Reilly's Pub, I met quite a few fun locals. The pub has karaoke and dancing on the weekends. It was ridiculously fun! Also, below the hostel is a sex shop. I thought that was odd to have below a hostel until I was told by a local that I was staying in the midst of Frankfurt's Red Light District. Niiiiiiiice. With all the fancy upscale shops nearby you would never think that was the case. I never had any problems walking around by myself and I didn't see any "ladies of the night" wandering around. When I go back to Germany, I would have no problem chugging a Spaten and kicking back again at good ole' Frankfurt Hostel.

My best friend and I went on a European road trip of 6 countries in November of 2013. We didn't…read morereally have an itinerary, we just knew which countries we wanted to travel through (Belgium, Lux, Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland) and our final destination (Venice, Italy). As we drove through Germany and consulted the myriad of travel sites, we decided to visit (and eventually stay) in Heidelberg... boy am I glad we did. From the popular Schloss Heidelberg to the less popular (but MUST SEE) the Nazi Amphitheatre: the Thingstatte, this town was one of our favorites. But one reason why this town was so wonderful was it's accommodations. We stayed at the Lotte: a backpackers haven and one of the cleanest, friendliest Hostels we stayed at while in Europe. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with friendly attentive staff. They weren't the normal attendants, but they were very knowledgeable, showed us around and gave us a great tip on cheap parking (the 11th parking lot for just 2.50 euro!) The bathrooms were super clean and they even had one that was just for the ladies. The beds were comfortable and they provided all linens, including towels. We stayed in a 5 bed co-ed and it was occupied by a super nice girl from California and a guy we didn't really talk to but was very respectful. There was no curfew and they had a super clean kitchen with cereal and coffee in the am. Also to note but we did not use was the balcony for smokers and a nice social room with lots of books and games. The decor was quite nice; the bedroom had a beautiful carved ceiling and was decorated very nicely... not your typical particleboard or rusty bunk beds. The location is also fantastic: Right at the foot of the Heidelberg Castle and minutes from everything the Altstadt (old town) has to offer. So if you are in the market for a beautiful little place with great value and awesome location, DO NOT VENTURE ANY FURTHER THAN THE LOTTE! We did go to Steffi's Hostel... If I were you, I wouldn't stay there... it is far away and smells gross. We went there first and there was no attendant and it reeked. Go to LOTTE!!! You will be happy you did!

Best views for a beer break, and this almost seemed like an "accidental surprise" to us, as we didn't know exactly what was located at the top of the hill. We sure are glad that we stumbled upon it, and the views of the Rhine River were impeccable! Kinda cool too to find out that this place serves as a youth hostel as well.

We happened to be in Bacharach for the Game of Thrones Tourney, so we decided to make the journey to see the castle for ourselves. The castle is truly the focal point of the whole town; even upon arrival from the train station, Stahleck is standing proudly to greet you. Looking at the signs pointing to the stairs, I thought, how hard could this really be? We're two average fit Americans; we'll be fine! Well! We were! Make to bring some good hiking shoes with some good traction, and a good camera to take in some of the amazing scenery! The first initial steps up the mountain have a sturdy railing and sturdy wooden steps - nice and easy. But, as you go higher, the steps go away, and you're walking on a dirt path that I wouldn't dare walk on if it was covered in snow. Making it to the top is definitely worth it, and the view is really impressive of all of Bacharach. We should've gotten a beer or something to celebrate making it to the top, but it was getting dark rather quickly, so we had to make our way back down again. Go inside and get a coffee or hot chocolate before heading back to town!

We stayed 5 days and met roommates from Italy, France, England, Germany, and America. Some were traveling and others, like us, staying while hunting apartments. Lockers are provdided in the room (bring a lock or rent for small fee) but everything didnt fit. I was worried at first but no one touched our things. Everyone was respectful at night but there are free earplugs at the front desk too. We were across from the common room and even full of people talking not a peep can be heard through the walls. The rooms have big windows to open and air out the room, individual bed lamps, and small shelves for top bunks to store small things. The kitchen has pots, pans, utensils, fridge (label you stuff and no one will touch your food), plates, cups, stove tops, and a mini oven. It can get crowded at meal times so you may have to wait for a spot. Dishes are to be washed and dried after use- most people follow this rule. There is a little market across the parking lot- Anatolia Market- with bread, fruit, veg, deli meats and cheeses, rice, pasta, snacks. For more options there is an Aldi down the street. There are 3 communal restrooms on the floors. They are clean and there was never a long wait in the 5 days we were here. Separately there are men and womens rooms with showers and sinks. There is warm water that lasts but you have to press the nob every 30 sec to keep the water on. Beware leaving anything in the shower room it will disappear! You can pay for breakfast- bread, meats, cheese, jam, nutella, cereal, tea, and coffee gor 3€. We did this for our stay but next time I can make breakfast for same price or cheaper. There is 24 hour tea & coffee available in the kitchen too! All the staff is super friendly!

If you're carrying a lot of luggage, you better hope the elevator's doors aren't open upstairs. If they are, that elevator won't be coming for you. Steffis' staff is very welcoming. The hostel is cheap and offers several great amenities. There are several computers for accessing internet. For 5 Euro, you can get a lock for a room locker. The money is returned when the lock is. They also offer 3 Euro breakfast, 5 Euro pizza deals, and 1 Euro pretzels. Get to the breakfast early, though. The later you are (8:30/9am), the fewer options there are.
