They've already gone belly up! Coffee's in your head now. Like a zombie on the loose, all you can think of is cofffffeeeeeeee... Rrrggghhhh~%+%*§%*hhhhh... But then, you remember, there's another place! Your friend works there. He wouldn't deny you a latte to go would he? Even if you have to buy a freaking glass you WILL HAVE A COFFEE TO GO! You walk in, it's your friend's shift. Score. You beg him to tell you that he has a to go cup for you; HE DOES!!!!! He goes to the cellar to get them, you walk another round outside to make sure your baby stays asleep... You re-enter. See your hot, foamy (seriously gorgeous foam) milk already waiting in that cup.. More panic! The filter is borked! He fiddles the filter, you engage in your conversation of mutual morning slump and "how are you's". You understand each other, he grabs the other filter and magically (as if he knows how you feel *wink* ~he does~) he asks: "shall I make it a double?" YES!!! You exclaim. It's as if you know exactly how I feel! You share a giggle: he knows exactly how you feel. You thank your friend, your hero. You go outside again, smile and shoot your hero a text: "I'm immediately smiling again dude." Happiness is restored and all is right in the world. Love.

We ordered the veggie paddie burger (Groenteburger). She did check for my allergy, which was kind, but there wasn't any warmth to be found in the conversation. Presentation was nice, fries were good but the burger - though it looked cool - was superdry and hard to swallow. We commented this to one of the serving girls and she just responded with 'Oh!' 'Not really sure what I can do about it.' She said she'd pass it on to the chefs though. After also being treated quite aloof by the other staff, we don't think we'll be back. Maybe they disliked my love's StarWars sweater. You never know.

And also because they deserve those stars. Serving delicious vegetarian and vegan food, made with fresh organic veggies and other organic ingredients it's hard to beat. We ordered vegan sandwiches (broodje van de dag). They came open faced, two pieces on freshly baked bread, with a delicious spread, smoked tofu and radish(?) sprouts. Lovely combination. My husband ordered the Veldkeuken Klassieker; soup of the day, a slice of quiche and a salad. It looked delicious and tasted likewise as he said. For the little ones they have a "kabouterplankje" which consists of two slices of bread with 2 choices of toppings (chocolate sprinkles, peanut butter, jam, cheese or syrup). The quality of the food is outstanding. Service is pretty good although it tends to be very busy so sometimes you have to get someone's attention. Don't forget to pick up something from the shop; fresh bread or something else. It's worth it!

I understand the lunch rush and that things can easily slip up but this visit was a real testament to how patient a person I am. We came here on a Sunday afternoon around two o'clock which is an hour and a half before lunch ends for de Veldkeuken. It was busy, but we had the time and a banana to feed the baby so it was all good. We were greeted by a waiter after he had brought out an order for the table next to us before we could really decide what we wanted to drink so I asked for a latte and a menu so le husband could figure out what he wanted to drink. We then happily went on with mashing the banana for our son and fed it to him. By the time we were done with that we were already half an hour into things and my latte had arrived with a server who disappeared before we could remind them that we were waiting for a menu. So, seeing as we'd waited for half an hour I decided to walk over to our waiter and politely remind him that he promised to bring a menu. Soon after, he finally appeared with a menu, we decided quickly and I went upstairs to nurse the baby in piece and quiet. Upon our return we found le husband still waiting. We joined and waited. And waited. And waited. All attempts to flag someone down failed as they simply were not paying attention to their surroundings. In the meantime baby was growing more and more impatient so I took him outside for a short walk expecting to find lunch upon our return. Sadly, lunch still hadn't been ordered but we soon managed to finally catch a server's attention. Now it's important that you know that lunch ends at half past three and by now it was quarter to four. We asked the server if we might finally be allowed to order lunch as we'd a;ready been waiting an hour and my husband hadn't even received a drink yet. The server apologized, explained that he couldn't take orders and would send his colleague over. After five minutes he noticed us still sitting there, waiting, and thankfully decided to take matters into his own hands. He took our order, saved the day and brought the food and tea out within ten minutes. No complaints there except of course the extremely long wait that had preceded these events. Sadly baby was by now exhausted and ready to go home. What was supposed to be a nice lunch as a family turned into us taking turns with walking outside with our son and sitting inside and eating in solitude. To top all that off, the soup of the day was leek-fennel and my lunch but tasted of neither and was only very salty. Leek and fennel are both sweet vegetables but not a hint of sweetness in site. If you would have told me that it was a very simple split-pea soup I would have believed it. So, after all this, you wonder why I want to give the Veldkeuken a better review? Because I believe in them. I believe in the rustic, organic and completely vegetarian philosophy. I have tasted there delicious pastries and cakes. I love that they have a nice clean toilet conveniently located outside so walkers coming off the estate can use it too. I love everything about them, I just hate having to wait for more than an hour to order lunch.

Still, they were very friendly and came up with alternatives. Only didn't know I couldn't have raw salmon either, so I was stuck with the cheese sandwiches and my love had to eat all that lovely salmon (poor him). Although I was happy with young cheese, I felt they also could have used a more.. expensive.. luxurious cheese? Goat's? Or maybe Brie or Camembert? Because there was a whole pile of them, I was quite happy with the "ordinary cheese" because using richer cheeses would have also meant they would be very heavy on the stomach. But quality before quantity yes? Fewer sandwiches with more luxurious ingredients would have been lovelier! The sandwiches were simple, but tasty. We had some scones, those were also nice. A little simple, but ok! And then we got a giant desert course. Our eyes started to shine. And our bellies protested, because we just had all those sandwiches! But it all looked so good! Unfortunately.. the brownies were very dry. Not the chocolate mushiness one would expect. The petit-fours were simply cake and strawberry jam (maybe those always are, I don't eat a lot of pastry so excuse me if I am being too simple about them), the cheesecake was ok-ish and.. I don't really remember the other deserts on the plate now, but I know that we were stuck between relief (because if it truly was DELICIOUS we had to eat it all!) or sorrow that it was such a letdown. Oh well. It was just high tea. So we didn't have lunch or diner or whatever. So we still need to sample this. Still, the place it self is cute. It's near the forests of Amelisweerd and Rhijnauwen (beautiful walking areas!) so it might still be a very lovely place to sit town in between walks.

Yes! KEEK! YES!!!!…read more KEEK brings the happy like you wouldn't believe! I am definitely in love with their cheese "scone" sandwich filled with seasonal grilled vegetables and pesto, yum. By no means is it a scone my friends, but it makes one hell of a delicious sandwich! Le husband had a regular sandwich with grilled Serrano ham, mozzarella and pesto with a cup of jasmine tea and I that wonderful grilled vegetable sandwich with a glass of hot chocolate. First of all, KEEK is an organic eatery but not just any organic eatery; one that truly cares about amazing quality in their products. Their tea is top notch and their hot chocolate (which I suspect they make themselves before service) is seriously the best pre-made hot chocolate I have ever had. So good! The next thing they do to ensure they have the best product is make everything from scratch in their own kitchen. Everything. Well, besides the bread for the sandwiches, they order those daily at another favourite of mine: de Veldkeuken. Can't blame them, I wouldn't want to stay up all night just for one menu item either and Veldkeuken is really good at baking bread. Back to KEEK. About a minute's walk from this location, you have Keuken van KEEK where you can get some simpler sandwiches and all of their baked goods to go. Yum, RUN! You won't be able to get the grilled vegetable sandwich from the to-go location which is a shame, but make sure you try it. So garlicky, so sweet, so delicious! I will probably have "adult dreams" about this sandwich for the next few weeks... Sorry, tmi. As for the vibe here, the interior is really nice, especially the "tea room" in the back which is so serene and full of light. Great for a happy afternoon catching up with friends. The front room is a bit more artsy and that shows in the crowd. I tend to ignore the people around me if the food is good enough to focus on, but le husband felt a bit out of place with some of the other customers which were: hippies, old people and loudly conversing women. Of which the first two were the most bothersome, I agreed on that but like I said, if the food is great, I don't give a shit who else is there. You could have probably placed my in-laws at the table behind me and I would have never noticed. So KEEK. I highly recommend it and I will definitely be back asap!
