They host several workshops a month and always mix up the locations as well. Sometimes their events are more intimate 21+ events at Alibi, and sometimes we're using a space at NHMU (and getting a complimentary NHMU ticket for the evening!) or the Valley Fair Mail. Every class is so much fun, and it's a lovely community of people from all over the valley. I've met so many wonderful people at these classes. The artists that host them are so talented. I've never considered myself very crafty or creative, but after taking these workshops, I've realized that I have so many skills and interests that I never knew I had! It feels like every workshop honors the creativity of my inner child :) In addition to their workshops, they do a million other things that benefit our local community and foster creativity. They host two large events - the DIY Festival in August and the Holiday Market in December. Their staff is always friendly and helpful, and every event I've attended has been fun and well organized. The Gale Center was a great place for my four kids and I to spend a rainy morning to learn some…read morelocal history and play. The hands on experience in the playrooms was my children's favorite, as it made the history we read about come alive. My kids are 2, 6, and 9. The play areas are definitely designed more for the 5-6 and under crowd, but we all had fun. All my children loved the walk through mine experience and the model train exhibit. We just had to ask a staff member to turn it on, and the kids were thrilled! As a family we spent about an hour there, it could have been longer if my little ones had more stamina. The staff had organized a cute scavenger hunt activity which was lots of fun!

That was one of the many bites of trivia that I learned on my most recent visit to the museum. This museum has a modest amount of historical artifacts on display-done in a creative way that resembles your grandma's house. There are also some interactive exhibits where kids can play with the food in the grocery store, dress up in the small house or walk through a coal mine cave. It's really well done and is a nice place to poke your creativity. There's no fee to enter the museum and there's plenty of parking. Make it a day and bring the kids for some fun!

General admission is free, and there is a donation jar near the entrance for anyone who would like to help support the planetarium. The exhibits were educational, engaging, and very interactive. We saw a model of Earth, looked at several types of telescopes, learned how tornadoes form, and explored a variety of hands-on games and activities. The moon exhibit was one of our favorite areas. We enjoyed learning about the moon in such a fun way, and getting to touch a real moon rock made the experience even more memorable. The upper floors also offered interesting exhibits about energy, space, and science. Unfortunately, a few of the interactive exhibits were not working during our visit, so I hope they will be repaired soon. Even so, we had an amazing experience, and I highly recommend the Clark Planetarium--especially for families with children. I paid $3.50 for an hour of street parking, but there is also a nearby parking garage. The shopping and dining area behind the planetarium was very convenient and only a short walk away. If you plan to stay longer or visit the surrounding shops and restaurants, the garage may be the better option.

Probably the most lackluster 'Grand Opening' event of any grand opening I've ever been to. They…read moredidn't even have a sign up on the building yet. The advertisement said it started at 10am and there would be free corndogs, but we showed up and of course there were no corndogs. They told us that corndogs would be arriving at 12, so we came back at 12, and guess what... still no corndogs. So they gave us false info not once but twice and wasted our time. As for the games, the machines were set to let you win 1 in every 8 plays, and each play is a dollar. How do I know this? Because one of the machines displayed this info in the settings. So for $8 you can expect to win a small knockoff plush that has a hole in it. They also had a couple of small machines that weren't up and running yet. The staff wasn't unfriendly, but I wouldn't exactly describe them as friendly either. They seemed about as unenthused for a grand opening event as can be. Unlike some better claw arcades, they weren't offering to help reset or fluff up machines, in fact they didn't talk to us at all while we were playing, and it's not like there was a large crowd.
