We just moved out here and enrolled my oldest in 1st grade at junction. The teachers are great, and the principal is very approachable.

I will base my score based on my daughter's experience in Kindergarten. Pro: Strong Academics Field trips Caring classroom aids Clean classrooms Great lunch program with a french chef serving salmon..etc gourmet food!!!! Con: Not enough play time within classroom. Her teacher-Mrs Boyle was an extremely strict. She did not give kids any chance to make a mistake. I witnessed on several occasions she was calling out the kids, borderline yelling across the classroom..found this very intimidating. Later on, I heard from other student's parents that she was constantly complaining about boys in the classroom. Recommended K teachers are Chavez and Medd School has no fields Not enought shade for students. They are adding 1 classroom to each grade level in 2017 K-3 grade making each grade level 6 classes. The school is becoming sooo big. I hope increased quantity will not mean lowered quality.

After six months, I ultimately had to pull my four-year-old out because the situation was severely affecting his confidence and well-being. My son had been home with me his entire life. He had structure and routine at home, but starting TK was a completely new environment: 20+ children, two teachers, new rules, constant transitions, and expectations he had never experienced. He is a genuinely good, loving child who was struggling to adjust--not a child who deserved to be treated as though he was a problem. Unfortunately, his TK teacher, Mrs. Schreier, seemed to give up on him almost immediately. Instead of helping him gradually become comfortable in the classroom, he was pushed toward an IEP and eventually spent much of his time isolated in the learning center with a rotation of teachers. His "body breaks" could consist of simply moving from one chair to another. Recess was repeatedly restricted or taken away. When he was rarely given recess, he was closely shadowed despite never having aggressive or physical behavior toward another child. At times, even lunch and restroom access became issues, and he came home with two accidents after being unable to use the restroom. He desperately wanted to be with his classmates. The constant restrictions and isolation understandably led to more acting out. In my opinion, his behavior was a reaction to an environment where he felt controlled, excluded, and desperate to return to his peers. I worked extensively with the school and repeatedly told them I was willing to reinforce anything at home that would help him succeed. I tried to build relationships with every teacher involved in his care, including the behavior teacher, Miss Reily, the principal, Mrs. Lane, seven resource teachers, and the vice principal. Unfortunately, I often felt dismissed, and the lack of empathy and communication was extremely frustrating. There were also repeated concerns about autism that I felt were being pushed too quickly, despite not seeing the same behaviors anywhere else. Months later, teachers themselves acknowledged they were no longer seeing the signs they had previously been concerned about. That was extremely concerning to me. The experience became so stressful that I was physically and mentally overwhelmed. My son experienced two anxiety attacks when I picked him up early, including difficulty breathing, because he desperately wanted to be around his peers and teacher. I communicated this to the school, yet I did not feel his emotional or physical well-being was treated with the urgency it deserved. During this same period, my son underwent tonsil surgery to address severe sleep apnea because I wanted to eliminate anything that could be contributing to his difficulties at school. Even after surgery, I was disappointed by how little effort seemed to be made to help him feel included. When I asked whether his classmates could make him a simple get-well card, his teacher said she was not going to ask them to do so, but there was a craft table if they chose to make one. How would his classmates know he had surgery if no one told them? It was another moment where I felt my son was being treated as though he didn't belong. What has been most eye-opening is what happened after leaving. My son now attends John Adams Academy, and within TWO WEEKS I have seen an entirely different child. He is listening, comfortable, participating, enjoying school, and making tremendous progress. I was honest with his new teacher about everything we experienced. Her response was, "He may have his bad days, but I'm not giving up on him, nor am I going to leave him." That sentence alone says everything. A four-year-old entering school for the first time needs patience, encouragement, consistency, and someone willing to help him learn how to succeed in a completely new environment. Instead, I felt my son was labeled, isolated, and treated as though his struggles were simply his fault. I gave this school six months, countless conversations, cooperation at home, and every opportunity to work with us. I even spent hours sitting in my car outside the school trying everything I could to support my son and understand what was happening. I tried to be patient and understanding, but eventually I had to put my child's well-being first. I am grateful we made the decision to leave. Watching my son thrive in a new classroom has shown me that there was never something inherently wrong with my child. He needed adults who were willing to understand him, teach him, and not give up on him. I sincerely hope this school takes a hard look at how it handles children who struggle during their transition into school. They are four years old. They are still learning. They need guidance--not to feel like they are a problem that needs to be removed.

The school in general is a only a little homophobic and maybe the slightest bit of sexist but depending the teacher, some are more nice than other. As a student that used to go to Quail Glen, I would recommend this school for your kids :).

This school has a huge bullying problem perpetuated by second grade tracher Marianne Wilson. If…read moreyou're child is entering 2nd grade and is a boy in her class, you've scored. If you have a girl you are absolutely screwed. A first grade girl was kicked then poked with straws and utensils. She was so tiny they tossed her around like a rag doll. You'd think those boys would get detention or suspended...nope. Another parent had to file a Williams Rights Act complaint woth the District against the school and Marianne Wilson because they failed to let a student take home and bring back their school books daily. Aren't school books a basic necessity for school?!? A second grade girl was sexually assaulted on campus by a boy. However because the boy was under 4th grade in the eyes of the law it's only considered bullying. Another kid was bullied so bad that they had to switch classrooms and the boys that bullied that child would loiter outside the classroom. It got so bad that this child was no longer allowed to go out on recess because the school could not guarantee the kids safety while on campus. The child had to be escorted by staff. Are you kidding me?!?! Another girl was physically assaulted by a boy and after the investigation it was determined it was an accident. Uhm how many times do you accidently punch another kid...wtf. The mother of the boy that was the offender that did the physical assault was the room mom so nothing happened to the golden child. The principal Greg O'Meara was absolutely the worst. That kid that was sexually assaulted the childs parents went to O'Meara and asked him what his remedy was and he stated to them, 'what do you want me to do there's only six weeks left in school'. The principal had already asked for a transfer so he did not care one lick about those kids. The lunch lady would admonish the kids that had an under $5 balance on their meal accounts. She even told the kids that she would turn them away if they tried to get a hot meal even if they had a positive balance but the balance was low. Not low enough to where they could not purchase a hot meal. Just having a low balance even if they had enough to purchase a hot meal. Turn a kid away even if they had enough to cover their meal. That's insane! One parent had to complain to the Board of Trustees to get the lunch lady to stop. The yard duty are horrible at their job and kids get hurt real bad. To the point where kids were missing school to avoid the bullies because they would get hurt at recess. Then when the yard duty found out they never told anyone so that bad kids kept doing horrible things because nothing was ever reported. Another kids parents was threatened with having their kid kicked out of school (notified by mail only 1 day prior to being kicked out) because the school didn't mark on the outside of the school record folder that they had received the shot records. How completely idiotic of them. A simple mistake, ok. But not checking a folder then trying to kick a kid out because of their mistake and only notifying the parent 1 day but they knew about this for two weeks. Unacceptable. There are a few good people here. I'd say the male nurse is pretty great and I've heard the tutoring center teacher is pretty awesome. But I have not heard of or experienced a great teacher at this school that nourishes the child's mind in a positive manner. If you want your kid to either become the bully or get bullied verbally and physically go ahead and send them to Quail Glen. Your kid will come out nice and f'd up all on your taxpayer dime. If you can I'd highly recommend moving out of the district or requesting a transfer. We are leaving this hell hole. Worse school ever. Bullies are rampant. Staff is either incompetent or disinterested. Kids are being physically and sexually assaulted by other students. Multiple complaints have been filed against the school. The former principal ended up leaving to a place in Santa Cruz to become head of student services. The district promised this year 18/19 would be different. There is no way we are coming back. Ever!
