This is one of those occasions. My boyfriend had a meeting in this bar and I popped in to meet him once he was finished in it. I swear I thought that I'd entered a set for Peter Kay's Pheonix Nights. All I was waiting to see was the owner himself wheeling in like Ironside - it didn't happen sadly. Essentially, this is a social club. The beer is cheap. If you were from around these parts then it's the perfect place for guys to get together for some beers, the football and some pool. There's not too much need for a Cosmo girl like me. Through the back (where my man had his meeting), there is a very well turned out function suite that would be nice for a birthday party event or something of that ilk. As for this becoming a local, I don't think that would ever happen for a girlie like me, so I'll leave this place to the boys.

Don't trust your maps, just sneak up the back way! I went here for a friend's 21st, and was really impressed with the function room. It was held in the Mill Suite, which is a downstairs suite with 2 rooms, a coatroom, and bathroom facilities. The main room consists of a bar, a seating/lounge area, and a dance floor with long tables situated at either side. It's a lovely room, very clean, modern, and welcoming. It'd be a lovely place to hold any milestone birthday, engagement party, wedding reception, etc. The prices of drinks at the bar were pretty reasonable, and space to relax or to mingle and chat. The dancefloor is a good size - definitely plenty of room for all your friends' and families' embarrassing dance moves, and all those dance-along favourites like the (heeeey) Macarena! This is definitely the kind of place I'd think of hiring for any big special occasion.

The Hamilton Palace has reciently been upgraded but the vibe is still the same. Expensive to get in and expensive alcohol, however with the lack of anything else nearby, what other choice do you have. The Allstar's nightclub is doownstairs and can be either a hit or a miss. The 30' somethings are located one floor up and can be too busy and rather hot inside. It now has beds and boths in it to bring it into the 21st century. The piano bar is just the same, karaoke and a good laugh, though this area is really small. There is also a restraunt in the Hamilton Palace, although I have never been in it. Upstairs above there is the over 25's which has a round dancefloor. this is probably one of the best rooms however is really busy. The next floor up is Baby Janes with also the added oval VIP area, although I really don't know why it has one to be honest. Baby Jeans is all the ned and headbanging music and to be fair not a pleasent experiance. Overall the Hamilton Palace is an expensive place and can be really hard to get served drinks. The toliets are clean and there is also a cloak room if needed.

Staff were friendly enough and, whilst it made for a nice evening, like I said, it all feels a bit stuck in time. I just don't think I'd travel out here again given that the impressive Cineworld and iconic GFT reside in the city centre surrounded by an abundance of fantastic places to eat and drink. The Showcase surroundings pale in comparison. S'alright.

It was refreshing to get served right away without waiting in a long queue for tickets and the staff were friendly and efficient - refreshment area was well staffed and no long queues either. The decor is pretty tired but I actually really liked the retro vibe! There were even drinks fountains and dodgy geometric patterned carpets. Great selection of hot drinks, snacks and everything you would expect from a well stocked cinema. The seats in the screens themselves aren't as plush and comfortable as a more modern cinema, and the screen was a bit smaller that I expected but the viewing quality and sound was excellent. An overall pleasant, efficient and convenient experience!

Partly because its inexpensive and because it's a good way to see Scotland with my Finnish girlfriend. Our National Trust for Scotland memberships served us well in here, a place I haven't been for around 15 years. It's terrifying how much I can still remember. As well as the museum of the Scottish explorer David Livingstone, which houses alot of his own personal belongings, there is a play park and gorgeous woodland garden that is a joy to stroll around. My luck being my luck, it wasn't the warmest day on record so we spent more time indoors than out. If I ever have kids, I will bring them here and tell them stories about when my Dad took me here oh so many years ago. Free to all, with an admission charge for the museum itself. National Trust for Scotland members go free.

There is some interesting stuff about the abolishing of slavery, and a replica of his tomb. There is also some of Livingstones diaries and medical equipment on display, (and a disturbing looking thing for cutting holes in skulls!!) The tea room is well priced and and has a good menu. A lot of the building seems shut off the the public, like old classrooms and stuff and they could maybe make more of this. His red shirt he wore when he met HM stanley is on display. ( I presume its not a replica!!!) The surrounding area is nice and a lovely park to walk in , but the asking price of £6 is bit steep for what this museum offers if you ask me.
