I adopted my beloved Callie Marie from Just a Touch Rescue (JATR) almost four years ago from a wonderful lady, who was her foster mom, in Pennsylvania. As an avid animal lover my entire life, a former Board of Director for a North Shore humane society for both dogs and cats, and a mom to four rescue dogs (past and present), these volunteers deserve more than a pat on the back! It is clear to me that they are not only a professional organization who truly loves and cares about all animals, but they also try so hard to rescue and save as many pets as they can to give those pets a chance for a happy and safe home with a new family. I truly cannot say enough about this organization! They are always so happy to see photographs of their once fostered dogs in their new family environment, and they welcome all new parents to stay in touch through a group email. It is a great way to stay in touch and hear about all the new parents' happy experiences as well as what the organization is doing to help new animals they rescue, and stay in touch with all pet families who adopted.
Also, I feel that it is important to mention since there only one low review, that when I was a former volunteer in an animal organization and working 8.5 hours and commuting 2 more hours for an 11 hour day, all but one of us worked full-time jobs while the other lady was older and retired. It took us some time to get back to potential adopters at times because we did as much as we could in our free time and working a full-time job and taking care of our families and pets, There just were not enough hours in our day. I know there were many times when I was on telephone calls for my "volunteer" position until 11 pm at night (while eating a quick supper chewing quietly because I was hungry) in between these calls) and had to get up early the next day for work. It was hard and very tiring, but my reward at the humane society was when a stray, abused, or surrendered pet found a great forever family.
JATR also impressed me because they thoroughly evaluate the home. These poor dogs have been through hell and back, and my experience, as with any good organization, is the welfare of the pet. JATR is just that organization.
So, I tip my hat to JATR and also to the many animal rescue organizations who work so hard each and every day (for no pay) to make a difference for an animal. You all are true heros and have a special place in heaven. God bless you all.
