This toy store has been a great addition to Fillmore. The woman who owns the store is so nice and helpful. The toys a great and things you can't find anywhere else.

Their prices are absurd. I totally support and understand some sort of a mark up but this place takes it to a disgusting level. Everything is obscenely more expensive than anywhere else. My daughter picked up a toy that was listed for $126 which just seemed like such a rip off so I checked... $50 on amazon. Don't treat your customers like idiots. Skip this place. The man who walks around the store watching you has creep energy too. Chill, you're a toy store.

Often come here for gifts for nieces/nephews and friends' kids. Although it is listed as an Art Supply/Craft store, they have a large assortment of general and novelty items and kids toys and games for all ages. The bulk of the general/novelty items are as soon as you walk in, the kids toys/games are in the back and the art supplies are to the left past the cashier. I have only bought a few craft items here, but they seem to have a nice selection of all different types of paints and art supplies. The selection is not huge, but they have a lot of unique/quarky items that you will probably not find in the chain stores. I have always been able to find something, and best of all, they offer free gift wrapping. Perfect for quick gift shopping before heading to a party or get together! The staff has always been friendly/helpful. I do notice however that things are quite expensive (it is Noe Valley), but I suppose that is the price for last minute gift shopping!! Oh, they also have a nice parklet out front where you can enjoy a coffee or quick bite!

*This review is based on an unproductive conversation with a member of the staff after objectively and candidly sharing my opinion. A "controversial" one, perhaps. Which could explain why he got very defensive and verbally aggressive.* Every year for the last ten years this store has been renting rescued reindeer (from http://www.californiareindeerrentals.com/) to provide entertainment to shoppers and passersby. It costs approximately $2,500 to rent the reindeer for three hours. I walked by the other night where two sad-looking reindeer were huddled together in the rain behind a small, enclosed fenced-in area of the sidewalk aka the "parklet". The area in front of the shop felt claustrophobic and chaotic as people filed in and out of the store ("Santa" was also there), colliding with others collecting around the reindeer fence. Kids seemed surprised and excited and I overheard other adults sharing mixed emotions, but as someone who is passionate about the ethical treatment of all animals, I can't help but feel this is exploitive and I walked away feeling extremely upset. Today, I returned to the store for the first time to purchase some holiday cards and used it as an opportunity to suggest the store owners rethink how they 'spread joy in the community' without using animals. I shared that I thought it was unkind and unnecessary and instead of renting rescued reindeer to stand outside for people's amusement, they donate those funds to an organization supporting animals. (Or hey, how about a gift to those reindeer for all of their service after all of these years? What if we got them some organic artisanal moss, new blankets, or mineral blocks to lick?) My suggestion was immediately met with defensiveness, closed-mindedness, and, ultimately rejection. The man behind the counter got red in the face, shook his head, and claimed, "It's only three hours and it's not exploitation!". I finished my transaction and repeated that as a member of the community and regular shopper, I feel it's important to share (and hear other) opinions. He did not agree. He may be correct in saying that 'thousands of people have enjoyed it over the years', and maybe many years ago, I would have been one of those people as well. But today, it's a different story and I can't standby and watch the cruel treatment of sentient creatures occur in my community without offering an alternative way. I hope other neighbors and patrons of the store read this, and, reevaluate their own relationship with the store's custom and respectfully voice their concerns with the leadership at Just For Fun. I shop here regularly and want to continue but will find it harder to do so if they continue this inhumane holiday tradition. Even more so if their response to composed, constructive criticism is met with a lack of compassion and understanding. If you also love animals and want to spend time with them in their comfortable environments, check out www.ranchocompasion.org or sweetfarm.org

Something for everyone to scratch that creative itch. There's a lot going on here but it's organized by category which is helpful. Also, there's an option to donate here which is always great! Agree with other reviewers that the area doesn't feel the safest and is a bit apocalyptic (barbed fence wires with no one walking around) but I think it adds to the charm of the place. Just don't recommend coming here at night and take an Uber/drive if you can as it's located in an industrial area.

That said, my recent donation experience was honestly off-putting. When I dropped off my items, the person working the donation window was very dismissive and quickly waved me off without any acknowledgment or basic courtesy. It felt like I was being shooed away rather than thanked for donating. It might seem like a small interaction, but for a place that relies on community contributions, that moment matters. A simple "thank you" or even a neutral, respectful handoff would go a long way. I still appreciate the mission, but the experience made me think twice about donating again. Hoping this is something the team can address.

In Japantown there is a place where art is made on paper and with paper and you can create almost any work of art from plants , flowers and also animals like birds and tigers through the art of origami. Regardless, this is a must if you're in SF Japantown for the first time and definitely if you're interested in papercraft. SUPER impressive display of origami that they have here. Things are folded and tucked in such unique ways that I would have never thought of to create so many of their cool crafts. This includes various animals, dinosaurs, references to pop media (Star Wars, Disney, Ghibli, etc.), plants, and much more. Pretty amazing if you ask me. Their shop dog is also impressively large and also really chill. Fun to see 'em wandering around and just hanging out. They seem to also have community events and classes, including free online ones. I'd definitely check out their website and social media accounts for information, but I always LOVE when businesses foster community and build towards hobbies. They also have private classes and they also do events for corpos or birthdays which is pretty neat. HUGE variety of different papers of all prints, patterns and textures, along with guide books, along with various gifts and art supplies and tools. Prices vary based on what you're getting, but seems quite affordable if you're just getting into the craft and pretty reasonable if you're finding fancier imported paper that'd be difficult finding elsewhere. Staff were friendly and ready to answer any questions that we had. If you have a crafty and artistic side, another reason to visit as well!

Around 1pm on a beautiful Saturday, we found parking in Judah and made our way into a small storefront with two doors: one for workshops and one for retail art supplies. I love that they offer workshops here, and I love any sort of community-centered art outreach in San Francisco. My partner is the bigger artist between the two of us and I'm glad I brought him, even though he didn't buy much, he was able to see the selection of amazing quality watercolors and the wide variety of pens, of which I ended up buying a handful because I am a stationary lover if I'm anything at all! The prices were about what one would expect for a small store in the sunset, and I was happy to pay them. Some of the prices were actually much better than I thought they'd be. I purchased a large-ish art clipboard for $18 and I know I'm gonna use the heck out of it! The store was fairly empty when we arrived but filled up quickly with Saturday shoppers, and the cashier was wonderful and kind, and I appreciated their calm demeanor I'll be back here! Really just a great little spot for quality art supplies: watercolor pallets, brushes, notebooks, mixed media notepads and paper, high quality colored pencils and artist pens, etc!
