Love coming to Blick for my art supplies! They have everything needed for crafting, painting, drawing, etc. Some materials are locked behind glass cases and you have to ask for assistance. Staff is usually pretty quick to assist. Just note that you they have to take the item from the glass cases to the register immediately. read more

custom framing is not for the weak of heart. you pay what you choose and purchase. with help from Mark we found what we think was the perfect frame, mat and highlight color. it was ready within a day of when promised. we picked up and were very pleased with the way it turned out. then, uh oh. how to get it home. I had forgotten my phone. the piece was heavy. the nice Jen went above and beyond, helping us go through the back door to Stevenson street where a lyft could pick us up. we paid her the money for the ride, and she packed us and the piece in the car and off we went. very happy with it. ps. they have 50% off sales every 6 weeks i think it is. check. read more

Blick always has exactly what I am looking for. Even better than having the supplies I need is being able to talk with their knowledgeable staff. Everyone working there seems to be an artist with tremendous knowledge about the best products to use for getting my art project completed. When I was at my wits' end in trying to find a teacher for a painting technique I wanted to learn, somebody at the counter had a terrific recommendation for a local art school. I'll start with this: The prices were reasonable! I don't know why, but I love these kinds of stores! They have everything an artist requires. I always walk out with a little extra than I had anticipated. I also noticed that they have a frame shop in the back (and something else, but I did not look hard enough) for all your pictures/ paintings. The staff looks younger and may not have all the answers, but I would not give them a hard time since I can find a lot of answers online. Going back to the prices, if I have to pay a dollar more than their online competitors, that is fine with me especially if I need the item now. read more

They profile you based on your looks & your race as if only white people who are dressed to their standards need art supplies. This place is basically sacrilege to all things "art". The most egregious being to the creative process and the artists themselves . Whenever I come here, I know full well even Amazon is going to be 1/3 the price but if I need a product right away, I like to make full use of the trip. Browsing the aisles of an art supply store can be inspiring and relaxing- UNLESS YOU'RE HERE. You will be treated like a criminal as you have 6 employees up your ass constantly. If I've never shoplifted and have spent hundreds and hundreds of dollars here, I should not be treated this way. This is really idiotic on their part because I was about to spend over $100 until I finally had enough. Most artists cruising through the aisles become inspired by the supplies they see- something not as easily done shopping online. The employees here know less about the products here than they know how to creep on a reoccurring local, paying customer.** Perhaps that is something they ought to spend time reflecting on. I will not be spending any more of my money here and I recommend other customers go elsewhere. This place was way better when it was Pearl. Shoutout to Mukhtar for the A1 customer service. I came in an hour before closing to look for embroidery thread to patch a tear on my favorite sneakers. I intentionally wore these sneakers to help me color match - I thought I would be in & out of the store quickly but nope, I didn't anticipate my eyes to play mind tricks on me lol. Mukhtar noticed me struggling and didn't hesitate to help me choose the best thread since he said "has a good eye for color." Coincidentally he was also the guy to ring me up at the register - very welcoming and easy going fella. I just finished patching the tear on my sneaker and it blended with the rest of the shoe pretty nicely, so I can confirm that he has some skill with color matching! read more

I've usually had good experiences with Blick in-store but this one I had to write about. I'm not sure if it's because I look young (I'm 39) and had a backpack and was wearing a ballcap or just the store's location on Market Street has everyone looking over their shoulder. I walked into the store, saw the loss prevention guy and asked if I needed to check my backpack at the register. He said I'd have to empty all of it out, but then added that he was kidding. I grabbed a basket and looked around, intending to check out some supplies. I'm an amateur artist wanting to try various mediums and I love looking at art supplies and imagining what I can do with them. I also had some time to kill before meeting with friends. Apparently killing time and thoroughly looking at the supplies are now crimes in this store. The loss prevention guy basically followed me around and later on informed me that the management told him to tell me that I needed to hurry up, buy something, and leave ASAP. I was stunned. I had things in my basket and rushed to pay for them and the guy at the register had this angry, disapproving look on his face. I apologized for what, I don't know and he mumbled something. I put the paid-for items in my bag and walked out quickly, totally confused and upset as to what I did wrong. Listen, I know the loss prevention officer was doing his job and he commented on how nice I was being about this but this whole experience left me with such a bad taste that I don't want to shop at this location ever again. Next time I'll just buy online where no one will complain about me taking a long time to look and purchase something. I even offered to hand my backpack over to ensure that they knew I wasn't a thief. Goodness gracious, it looks like other customers have had this same experience as I have. read more

I don't understand a single thing about color contour and the different shades of a color, but I can see that lots of young artists flock here for Blick's abundance of art supplies. Note: If you purchase at least $25 of art supplies, your first hour of parking is free! Check their website for the 3 different parking structures. If you have the leisure, definitely look online before coming here (to figure out what you want). Security guards are straight assholes who are bitter that they couldn't make it as real cops. I've walked out when I had a pocket full of cash with every intention of paying. But after being followed around we didn't like it because I don't look fancy enough of an apparently I just set my s*** down and left. These ingredients take their job way too seriously and they literally cost the store money because of how ridiculously judgmental they are. Hey security guards I really hope you read these reviews, you're not good at your job and you're wasting valuable time following the wrong people around the store and hey, just because somebody looks a little bit homeless doesn't mean they're a thief. But you thinking they are does most definitely mean that you were a judgmental a****** We'll keep on kicking out people who have every intention of pain but you won't let them because you just assume based on books alone that they're going to steal.. how about you let actions determine your decision rather than how somebody looks. First of all.. Bethany is amazing! Please make sure to give her a promotion for all her hard work! I have a picture in a beautiful frame hanging on my wall. Today, I decided I was going to try and frame 2 more prints of mine with the same frame as my first print. I called Blicks and they said they do custom framing but would need to confirm they have the exact design. I could take pictures or bring in frame. Since Blinks was only a 10-minute walk from my house I said I could bring the print in the frame and the two other prints I want to be framed. When I arrived Bethany immediately let me know that they didn't have the exact frame, but she still took the next 15 minutes trying to find a frame that matched. I think she could tell I wasn't completely happy, so she turned over the frame to show that the original was created at Michaels. Since the original frame is 4 years old, she suggested I call Michaels to see if they still carry the frame before heading down to Coma--Which is 12 miles from me. I called Michaels, explained the situation and the woman on the other end tried to pull up my account. It didn't show up. I explained I got the frame over 4 years ago from a different state. Because I didn't remember where I got the frame, she couldn't pull up my previous order and the only other option was to come into the store. I explained to her that Michaels was over 10 miles away, and I didn't feel comfortable getting in an uber and coming to her if they weren't sure they sold the frame. I should mention, at this time, Bethany is searching on the Michael's site to see if she found anything similar. The woman from Michaels responded, there was nothing she could do. I asked if I could send a picture of the frame just to see if they have something. Her response was no. At that point, I was through, she was rude and unhelpful, so I responded.. "Your customer service is awful. I am here at Blick with a woman who is trying to get you, a competitor, my business. If you would have tried harder, I would have gladly spent my money with you, but I will stay with Blink and buy a different frame. Thanks. Bye." Bethany then apologies for the woman's behavior! Even if I was going to spend my money at another store! I ended up buying the frames from Bethany at Blink. and I was willing to spend a lot of money since it is a limited-edition print. I am glad someone helpful got the money. Michael's framing department was a fail and in all honestly I will probably go back and replace the original frame I have from Michael's with one from Blick. Customer service is important. I understand we are in a pandemic, and everyone is going through their own issues, but I told the Michael's representative I was nervous to get in a cab, and drive 10 miles just to be told the frame is discontinued.
