On a main bus route (#26) and a taxi from the riverside was only £3 50p. The Morris couple who own and run it bend over backward to accommodate your every need. Breakfast is completely waited, including coffee, tea and juice, so you don't have to get up to serve yourself, and every breakfast item is provided--home cooked, not microwaved (including porridge, my favorite). Even her homemade jam! In rooms, liquid soap at the sink and bath gel in shower provided. Hair dryer, coffee/tea maker, flat screen TV. Only two floors, so no dragging suitcases up 3 or 4 floors, and Mr. Morris will help you with your luggage (not disappear, as in most places). I'm totally sold on this place--this couple really knocks it out of the ballpark!

This is one of the worst hotels I have ever stayed in for its star rating and price point. The young lady at check in was very polite and helpful, but sadly it was all downhill from there. There was some kind of function going on into the night, and it was extremely loud and carried into my room at the back of the property. Breakfast was OK but certainly nothing special, and there was an extremely limited selection of cold items in the included breakfast buffet. (You had to pay for full English, even with a breakfast inclusive rate!) The very worst part though was that the bathroom was dirty (by which I mean the toilet still had someone else's poop tracks, and there was a long black hair in the bathtub - a whole lot of ick) and the housekeeping in the room hadn't been that much better. But I was exhausted from all the driving we had done that day, so I just went to sleep, and put it down as a poorly managed and run property which is a bit of a missed opportunity given the location. When I decided to email the hotel manager to discuss this feedback with him/her, I sent an email to property asking for the GM's contact details and was told that guests are not permitted to get "higher management details without their permission"! Says it all really about what "higher management" at this hotel think of their guests.

Breakfasts were wonderful, with each morning offering a different choice from the simple yet extensive menu. The beds were comfortable, the night was quiet, and the shower was clean. A kettle with tea and cookies along with a small fridge kept our hunger at bay. The WiFi signal was marginal in one corner of the room, but perfectly fine on the other side, so we were quite happy with our internet access. We only got a hotel because so many people were visiting our family that they just did not have room for us all, but for future visits we might need to make up some sort of excuse to not stay with them but instead stay at the "GMH". OK, that might not work because really I am a cheapskate, and family is mostly free, but we really did love out stay.
