They have award-winning sausages made on site, and also cure their own bacon, and make up their own beef burgers. There's a variety of stuffed or marinated meat, good for the bbq in the summer or for roasting in the winter. They make sausage rolls and pasties, and it's pretty hard to resist when you walk by and smell that baking! They were happy to give me bones for a dog for no charge. Anything you want, they'll get in for you. There's a small selection of produce and chutneys, and some meat bagged up for the freezer. Oh, and there's cheese and ham, too. I may just start sleeping on the floor. And if you go in and say what you're making, they'll give you the right cut of meat and the right size, and then tell you how long to cook it. I think one of these days, they'll just follow me home and cook it up for me. The downside? It's expensive. But you're paying for quality and expertise, which you just don't get at a supermarket. They're open seven days a week, too.

But that didn't mean I had to wait, as he called his colleague out from the back who was happy to assist. I was very pleased with both the service and the quality of the steaks I purchased. I'm a semi-regular here, although I tend to shop here more in the summer when buying for barbecues etc as they have a good range. They also make their own sausages - the pinner porker is great, and they even make pies, pasties and scotch eggs.

Everyone that works there is very friendly and above all, knowledgeable about the meat they are selling. I went in for a brisket, which he didn't have because they didn't like what had been delivered, which is a great sign of quality. But he worked with me on what unwanted and found a beautiful piece of chuck steak, which will certainly suit the dish. I look forward to going back here in the years to come.

Now this may sound great, but I'm not sure. When you see a small bag of oranges for £1.80 or 2 for £2, and then this trend of really expensive for one or 2 for £2 - 3 for £5 etc etc... it forces you to buy more than you want. I confess I've spent the last six months shopping around, finding deals, spending more times in markets looking for healthier organic goods, the stuff superstores just cannot contend with. I am growing an aversion to processed packaged foods. Look in any superstore and a huge percentage of their discounted goods are processed naffness. So maybe it isn't ASDA that has changed, maybe it's me. To be fair ADSA is still great for doing your weekly shop, maybe the best, but their prices definitely seem to be higher than last time I was there. For the discerning shopper, those of us that care what we put in our bodies, stick to the farmers market.

To all Americans, please reserve your judgement, I do realize this place is part of the Walmart family. In the midst of the recession and with forever tightening purse strings, this store is a mecca of bargain basement prices and superb selection. Where else can you the vast array of products in a one-stop shop. The Wembley store has clothing, a late night pharmacy, all the basic housewares, electronics and of course, food. While I still prefer to buy vegetables and fruit from street side markets, buying spuds and carrots in bulk is best done at Asda. I particularly love the dry goods section where a 3kg bag of pasta rings in at £3.49 and every type of rice or cous cous is at your fingertips. The bakery includes West Indian hard-dough bread, a big favourite in my house and the staff is unbelievably attentive. When the vest tops I was looking for were out of stock, a sales assistant offered to call me when they arrived in. Seriously, when is the last time you were offered a personal service anywhere other than Harrods. If you are within a 1 hour travelling distance from an Asda, I would suggest the once-a-month stop in. Restock your pantry with the basics and leave the fancy stuff to organic shops and your community butcher.

It's probably the fact that this small shop has 3-4 butchers who are cranking out cuts of meat with serious speed yet friendly service. I've never seen a main street butcher so busy. They sell everything- even things you might not think were edible including brain, kidneys, tonguethats right even TONGUE of cows which are edible but which ive never tried. other than that its chicken, red meat, mince etc. They prepare the meat in front of you (chop it up or mince it whatever you ask for) and have the meat in a chiller under the counter (but its visible so you can see what you're buying.) Friendly staff and they always joke with me about buying brains (i think they're sheep brains). Try it for something new or just get your usual meats from here. Cheaper than Tescos and nice people. I asked the lady helping me which sausages were the best and a worker was putting sausages in the case said "Everything!!" He was right. Everything we tried was soooo good! We tried a bunch of different sausages, the beef bourguignon pie, and the shepherds pie. The beef bourguignon was for sure the stand out item.
