Inmates that did things they needed to do to survive. The living conditions are unhumanly. it is so cold that their body parts are going numb. They have acknowledged the fact that the heat isn't working but continue to let it blow out ice cold and won't offer extra blankets socks or any thing to keep them warm while something is messed up IN THEIR GOVERNMENT BUILDING. but the floors that they actually work on have heat. They also have inmates sleeping on the floor or plastic bins. Sleeping on an ice cold floor while there is no heat one super thin blanket and a pillow if your lucky. Their tablets not working half of the time so they have no contact with their loved ones AND no money to buy food. The inmates as of today have not been out of their cell in 4 days. They have been surviving in less than freezing temperatures and inhumane condition. Most of these "criminals" are in there for things like traffic tickets that they missed court for, crimes they didn't have anything to do with, and simply being held for another county. On top of everything they will not answer their phones for a single person. I called about a week ago with a question about adding money to an inmates account and got hung up on.

This is such an amazing architectural accomplishment that everyone needs to experience it. Even if…read moreyou aren't willing to go up to the top there is a free museum on the ground level that is very interesting, as well as a historical movie and a virtual reality experience. This is the smallest national park, and you will need to park in a parking garage, private lot, or use street parking. But it is just a short walk of a few blocks to get to the Arch. It is recommended to purchase tickets online because they often sell out. But today, a Monday morning, I just walked in a purchased a ticket for the next tram to the top. If you are claustrophobic you might not be able to ride the tram to the top. The cars are very, very small. There are five seats in each. But if you handle the tight space it is totally worth it to ride to the top. Once at the top you are allowed to stay for ten minutes, then you board the tram for the return trip down. The gift shop is worth a look, my favorite is the large collection of exploration history books. Many books about Lewis & Clark, of course, also other many other books about exploration and early history of St. Louis and the West. Books on pioneering women too, and Sacagawea. The tram ride was a bargain at only $17. While I didn't have time to view the movie today I have seen it before, on my last trip, and it is definitely interesting.

Dred & Harriet Scott were American-born slaves of African descent, filed suit against Irene Emerson for their freedom. After several appeals & new lawsuits, the Dred Scott case reached the Supreme Court. The final verdict stated that Scott was still a slave, still the property of his masters & that he was neither a free man nor a US citizen. The decision outraged many & was integral in leading the United States to the brink of civil war.

In 1857,…read moreit was decided that neither Dred Scott nor any other person of African ancestry could claim citizenship in the United States, and therefore Scott could not bring suit in federal court under diversity of citizenship rules. Moreover, Scott's temporary residence outside Missouri did not bring about his emancipation under the Missouri Compromise, as the court ruled this to have been unconstitutional, as it would "improperly deprive Scott's owner of his legal property." Yeah, that happened and it was one of the contributing factors that led to the United States Civil War.
