It's important that the motivation to come to therapy comes from you, as it creates a willingness to be more open about receiving feedback and the work you do in the therapy setting. In the time that I've been working with him, Johnathon has helped me work through difficult experiences and the way I view myself. When you've spent so much time around people that try to define who you are and what you should be, a more neutral perspective is welcoming. It's extremely profound for my feelings to be validated. Letting ourselves feel emotion instead of suppressing it is vital to moving towards better mental health, and Johnathon created a safe environment to do so, despite my own desire to "get back to normal" or feel a more positive emotion quicker. Sometimes, therapy can feel rigid or impersonal, but sessions with him feel very different from that. Johnathon gets to truly know the way his clients think and feel, and that is signficant. When you're in a session, it feels welcoming and open. You're allotted a moment to orient yourself in the space instead of feeling pressured to come up with a topic of conversation immediately. This is truly client-focused therapy, which is significantly different from previous therapists I've seen, who have a different approach of asking many questions upon their client's arrival. That may work for some, and it can be helpful, but to be put in the position of coming up with my own topics for each session, it helps me determine what is truly important, and what speaks to me the most on any given day. Priorities can change, and that's perfectly okay. Therapy can also take a financial toll if it's outside of one's budget, and I applaud Johnathon for working with me on pricing. Arolyn is also an LMFT which really adds to her effectiveness in knowing how to use a tool like hypnotherapy alongside traditional therapy. I used her for therapy sessions in addition to hypno. Her hypnotherapy technique is unique but in order for it to be effective, it requires you to really do the work (as with any therapy). But it is worth the effort! I found Arolyn to be attentive, kind and generous. She helped me work through various blocks to get around negative thought patterns. I now have a recording that is like my own personal power ballad. Arolyn tucked in all of these thoughtful little tidbits from our various sessions into this special recording designed to help lift you up and focus your energy and thoughts. That recording wouldn't have been as robust without her help and without us both spending quite a bit of time on it. I now listen to that recording most every day. With Arolyn's help, I learned to go into a deep meditative state that helped to change the waves of my brain and even more difficult, learned to change the language that I use.
