Talked to Matt...he had a gemologist that did an actual appraisal of the jewelry's worth. After telling me the amount I could hope to get and getting my approval, he sold it (and quickly!) for even MORE than the appraised value! I was tickled pink. Seriously, go to one of the sales. It's amazing. His staff is friendly, attentive and professional. And if you are looking for a well run, well attended estate sale to manage the disposition of your own "stuff", McNeil's should be the first call you make.

So to say I've spent *thousands* of dollars in Swan estate sales and auctions is not an exaggeration. Today they had a sale with some boxes of baseball cards. Of the nine boxes of cards I grabbed, five boxes had *two* stickers that said they were $10. Four had $20 stickers. I asked for a ticket of sale and the man said they were all $20 each. I showed him a box that had two (*two*) $10 stickers on it and he said it was $20 and the stickers were wrong. I put down all nine boxes and told the guy he should remove the stickers that contradict the price he's telling people. He said, "yeah." And started removing the $10 stickers from the boxes that weren't $20. Long story short, Swan does not honor their own stickered prices and will not be getting another cent from this once faithful customer.

Do not agree to pay the consumers sales tax, not even "your portion". That burden lies on the consumer not you. Assure that you do more than verbally agree to not sell something, even if they convince you it won't be sold via text. Demand a signed hard copy of the contract prior to the sale and sit with it a day or two. Mom only received photographs of her contract almost a month later when I asked her to ask for a copy. Make sure everything you wish to have a reserve price on is written down and then assure that they sell it at that price or leave it in the home. Please make sure you write down what you don't want to sell....all of it. Please note that when you have a sale with BSL you are agreeing for them to resale your items in their store or in future estate sales without payment, consignment or a chance to retain the items. There is an option on the contract where you can select to keep the items not sold. By law you can also choose a different liquidator than the people holding your estate sale. Mom was told that it wasn't very fair to the BSL if she kept anything after the sale. BSL operates their store with an inactive business license. There is zero proof that the company works in your favor to make you the most money and there is a conflict of interest in taking your items (cherry picked for resale?) and selling in their private store. There were negotiations had after the sale and admittedly another check was given to mom by BSL, but please do not think this means they're an upright and obliging business. There would not be any more money given if I hadn't emailed him. The owner attempted to guilt my mother by stating she had nothing to sell in the first place and that no one else in the community would have even done the sale. He stated that he did her a favor and then tried to emotionally manipulate her by remarking in emails how he thought they were friends and complained that she used a third party to contact BSL for reparations. The owner is condescending, manipulative and appears to be unethical in his business operations. Just because something is "always done or not done ever" does not mean it is right. If you want to get an idea of who he and BSL really are, read the responses to their critics. Choose another company, please,
