One of the reasons why I visit Brasserie Cicou in Annapolis is because of its decadent Kouign Amann pastry. I may not be a dessert person but I could not resist the caramel butter taste of this crusty cake. However, it's hard for me to finish one big order and I know that if I somehow found a way to eat one whole Kouign Amann, my cholesterol levels might shoot up because of all the fat in the flaky pastry.
It's a good thing that Chef Cyrille of Brasserie Cicou has opened KA by Cicou on the second floor of SM Megamall. The kiosk sells different flavors of this European pastry. What's more, the Kouign Amann sold in the kiosk is much smaller than the one they offer at Annapolis. So, I feel less guilty when I eat a piece. I still like the original caramel, but if you don't want the sweetness, you can give the blueberry flavor a try. Other variants include ensaymada, chocolate, choconut, and lemon. The price of each piece of Kouign Amann ranges from PHP 45.00 to PHP 55.00. If it's too much for you, you can try the kouignettes or the bite-size portion for only PHP 15.00 each. read more
