Amazing pumpkin patch right in the heart of Zeeland!!…read more Mr & I had passed by several Farmers' Markets offering pumpkins & we thought it was early for pumpkin season so we started researching the source of these delicious gourds & found De Pompoenwinkel Drove over to find huge fields of pumpkins & their shop was open. Super nice owner came out & invited us to walk around the fields, the varieties of pumpkins he had in the fields, in the greenhouses & which were edible and which were for decoration Sunflowers, zucchini, and all sorts of pumpkins, there were plaques that described the fields & it was an extremely pleasant setup Came back into the shop & purchased several pumpkins for eating & another "Welcom" pumpkin for Mom as a gift and they had apple-pumpkin preserves as well!! Thank you for the wonderful entry into my favorite time of year - hello pumpkin!!

Upon seeing the market we decided to hang back a little and check it out. There was mostly produce, baked goods, flowers and meats. Huge trucks opened their sides to reveal caselines filled with butcher items as well as salads and cooked items. Other items were displayed in the traditional market style way. Since we were still in the traveling mode, we did not make any purchases but it was interesting to see all the vendors displaying their wares to the weekly locals shoppers.

You can browse for hours - just bring cash. You must find the Moroccan stand near the theater building - look for the with two guys making mezze wraps and the long line. They start with handmade roti made minutes before serving and add fresh soft cheese and honey. If you have the palette of a child - you can stop there. The advanced level adds touches of dried figs, marinated artichokes, sundried tomatoes, roasted peppers and spicy olives. Yes, still with honey drizzled on. Add the Moroccan tea and for EUR 4,50 you have an incredible smattering of flavor where each bite is different.

It's the main market square in front of the Cloth Hall in Ieper (Ypres). The square itself may not…read morebe that impressive at first glance. It's the architecture of the buildings around it that make it appealing. You'll also see memorials such as the ones that commemorate French & Polish soldiers that died defending Ieper in WWI. You may even spot a bronze "Lost Key" embedded in a cobblestone while walking around the square. It's part of a public art installation memorializing civilians who lost their lives during the bombing. Our visit was on a Saturday. That's when the parking lot is turned into a farmer's market. This market has been a weekly tradition that dates back to medieval times. There were many people coming and going throughout our time there. Do be careful when walking across the streets near the square. The traffic flows freely around it. There were no pedestrian crosswalks while we there in May 2026. We did see cars and bikes whipping around blind corners without slowing down. Just something to be aware of as a pedestrian. We had lunch at the Dépot after our visit to the "In Flanders Fields" Museum. It was such a great meal. There were so many great food options to choose from when exploring the area. The Peter de Groote Chocolatier was a great last minute stop for chocolate before heading back to Zeebrugge. It was our first time visiting the Flemish side of Belgium. It turned out to be a very memorable experience. I totally recommend it to anyone interested in WWI history and Flemish culture.

Okay, this may be another of the many market squares found scattered across Europe, however the…read morething that caught my attention when I was here at least was that they had a very festival atmosphere with rides and food stalls. In fact I wasn't sure whether this was a short term festival or whether this was something that was going on, at least for the summer. Come night the entire place filled with people and in fact it was pretty difficult trying to find a seat after grabbing something to eat. It was definitely an experience, though I didn't go as far as going on one of the rides.

Not sure if I felt it was the most memorable landmark, but it is impressive as other city squares throughout Belgium. You can visit the St. Nicholas Church and restaurants in the surrounding area. In a nutshell, historical site that's a good tourist grab and easy to just explore the walk ways and wander about the city.
