Whole Foods in the Back Bay area of Boston is a compact outpost of the high end grocery chain,…read morecovering the essentials without the space of a suburban store. We walked into a produce section that is well stocked and an organic selection consistent with what the brand delivers. The hot bar is expanded and makes the store a practical option for a ready made lunch or dinner without much planning required. Pricing is a consistent downside that makes this not our first choice. Individual items across the store run significantly higher than what we would pay at a conventional grocery chain, and the urban location pricing adds another layer on top of the standard Whole Foods premium. For staple items and everyday groceries, the cost adds up quickly enough that we decide to buy from here only if we really need to. For a quick prepared meal or a specific organic item in the Back Bay area, it serves its purpose, but for regular grocery shopping we look elsewhere.

We like this Whole foods market- it has everything from produce to breads to prepared foods…read more I especially like the prepared foods - the soups are good for lunches. I would like to see more variety in the hot foods bar - especially because we always come here on Saturday and it's the same dishes. I understand they probably have a rotating menu so each day probably has a different selection but since we only come on Saturday it's pretty much the same every Saturday. Please change out the menu. Yesterday they even had some cut up oranges for free samples and that was great!! You get to try the fruit before buying- I mean you generally can't go wrong with cuties but still I thought this was a nice touch!! Loved it! Now that they have so many more self service checkout stations it's great! The space is also more efficient now. Their service is good too - they have someone there to quickly help if necessary. I like the green bananas as I like to buy them that way so they ripen over the next few days and can be eaten while yellow before they become sad lol! Overall we like this store - would like to see more selection/ rotation of menu in the hot bar!

An otherwise nondescript corner store, until you check out the beer selection…read more First, wines, because wine not? Arranged from light to big, and along the spectrum, you'll find a bottle that fills the "oh crap! I forgot to bring wine" need this backyard BBQ/dinner party season. Because lots of people live around this part of East Cambridge, but there's a dearth of packies. Friendship and future fete invites, preserved. Now, the beer. Pretty much every craft, micro and experimental local brew you could imagine, in singles, packs and bombers. Backlash, Night Shift, Slumbrew, Idle Hands, Bantam, Mystic, Artifact Cider Project... if it started in a garage or a spare room around great Boston, you'll probably find it on the shelves of Albert's. I won't even knock the presence of a few Brooklyn bastards and west coast invaders, simply because they're great specialty beers. Seriously, scout the sour and smoked varieties. On check out, the staffer outed themselves as a brew fan by peeling off a list of related product, perhaps unknown to we, the customers, should we want to run up the total a tad more. Next time, Albert's guy, next time.

Decent in a pinch as Albert's stocks quite the assortment of all things canned, bottled or bagged…read more A few years ago, I noticed they tried stocking a few fresh items, but I guess they didn't move. Can't fault them for that. The staff is less than friendly - and I have been going there for years and am generally friendly. The prices are pretty high and it makes me cringe when I see the elderly from the two local high-rises buying staple items because the walk to Shaws is a bit too far. Most alarming to me, however, is the opinions of the other shop owners in the area including the world's nicest laundromat elderly owner. It's a bad sign when the local deli owner refuses to even buy milk for coffee there, but goes to the liquor store instead. Finally, come on already and take debit or credit cards -- stop bleeding people at an ATM a couple bucks at a time.
