This is a small supermarket in the heart of Back Bay. Being part of the Albertson's and Shaw's group, they participate in their rewards program. We went in to get some protein shakes and they had a good selection of them. As other supermarkets, they had a prepared food section, produce, frozen food aisle, etc. The store was a bit more crampled than a regular supermarket as they have to do with the smaller inner city footprint. read more

I've been coming here for decades. Today I bought a few food items and a bottle of wine. As I was leaving the liquor store department the security guard told me I had to pay for the wine right there.I always pay at the main checkout with my food items. I asked why, he said "new rule", so I paid for it there.The cashier would not allow me to check out my food items there.When I went to pay for my food purchase's I asked the cashier if this new rule was true. He didn't know. Why should customers have to go through two checkouts to pay, or was this just a bored security guard trying to stay relevant? read more

This grocery store is in a convenient location. It's across the street from the Marriott we were staying at and also in the epicenter of Boston's Back Bay. We got in late Friday night and was able to get some shopping done before the 11pm closing time. The store looked organized with all of your grocery needs. There is a liquor store on the second floor too. Security was on duty so we felt safe. The prices seem comparable to other supermarkets. They also have a rewards program which I didn't look into because I don't have one of these near where I live. There were self checkouts and you can purchase bags for 5 cents a piece. Shoplifting at this Star Market has gotten out of hand. Security is usually on their phones instead of watching the doors, and I've seen people walk right out with unpaid items. On more than one occasion I've pointed out suspicious behavior to employees, only to be brushed off with comments like "it happens all the time." It's frustrating as a customer to see how little attention is paid to this issue. The lack of response makes the store feel poorly managed and unsafe. I really hope management takes this seriously and puts better practices in place. read more

I don't write reviews. I pay I expect excellent customer service. Today I returned an expensive rib roast to the Quincy Granite Ave Star Mkt, it didn't smell fresh. I was tired and angry because I had to make a trip to return it. Customer service sent me to the meat counter. I waited, was in a bad mood and complained. My mood was met with an apology, empathy and don't worry I will make it right. I was presented with a beautiful freshly cut roast to my specifications. today I went in and bought the frozen Birdseye rice and vegetables, chicken flavored rice same size bag as always 10 ounces. It's usually $2.29 sometimes it hits almost 250. Today I went in I needed a bag and they were on sale so I thought oh great. Well, they're on sale at two for six dollars if you get one it's $3.49. That is highway robbery. Market Basket has for less than two bucks. We moved to Lexington almost a year and a half ago and shopping at star market down the street because of the convenience. We all of us here in this apartment building are tired of paying $70 for a bag of groceries so we all had a meeting and we all decided. No more we're done. Their sushi is always excellent, the pizza and sandwiches are fresh, and while I don't personally think self-serve is something we should be doing, the buffet style foods look good too. They even have a full alcohol section and a Starbucks in the back. It's a perfect place to get a meal if you're staying in one of the nearby hotels but don't want to go out to eat. A quick stop to grab an umbrella on a rainy day was my only objective. The store is in the Prudential Center area of Boston aka as Back Bay. The market is on the second floor. I liked the appearance and it was clean in the front. I asked a staff where an umbrella could be located it was directed to a front display. They had all kinds of umbrellas big and small. It's always hit or miss at this grocery located across the street from Sax Fifth Avenue in the Prudential. You never know what products will be available or missing from the shelves. If you own a cat and are looking for Fancy Feast wet and dry, some days there will be product on the shelves and other days you will find next to nothing. Frozen food works the same way. The only way I will check out is the do-it yourself line because I can call over someone when items ring in at the wrong price. Worst grocery store I have ever been to. Almost everything that I picked up was either moldy or expired. Even though I was incredibly thorough when choosing the produce that I needed after finding moldy strawberries in the store, I still came home with moldy raspberries and spaghetti squash that smelled rancid. I also purchased a boars head turkey sandwich (which said it was good until tomorrow). But when I bit into this sandwich I realized that the lettuce was rotten and there was brown liquid from the rotting lettuce running down my hand. I called the store about the sandwich (before I realized that other items I purchased were also gross) and was put on hold and transferred many times. Eventually I talked to a nice manager who told me I could go back to the store for an exchange but I honestly don't trust this store. I didn't even get a receipt. In conclusion, don't go here. I probably threw away $30 worth of produce and as a college student that's pretty tragic. I would've included more photos but I'm not trying to make anyone vomit. read more

Awesome service and really kind staff. Today I placed my first pickup order, and there was a very understandable issue that led to the order not being ready when I arrived. All managers I spoke to were very apologetic, and insisted on getting my items ready immediately. They even gave me a significant discount for the issue and a $30 gift card for the delay. Mistakes are unavoidable, we're all human, but it's really nice when mistakes are met with honesty and people who are willing to go above and beyond to make things right. This place is fantastic. Lots of options including a hot Chinese food, wing and salad bar. Lots of to go options. Mega sushi selection. Huge slices of pizza 1 slice is like $2.50 and two slices is $5. Really huge and delicious. Some kosher selection. I got a bunch of items to go and ate outside on the tables. Very high prices here because of theft. Security stands on liquor level and chats with co-workers. They do not confront shoplifters and just let them walk out with meals or grocery items. The rest of the honest shoppers have to pay for this outrageous thievery. read more

Not quite sure where a lot of the hate is coming from, but Star Market is pretty much an essential to the Pru/Back Bay area aside from the Trader Joe's (although I just moved here, so I may be wrong). While a little bit above average in price, they do have a wide selection of cooked foods, prepared sushi, groceries, and hardware that is essential for any members of the community living walkable distance. It's not like all of us can afford Eataly produce and meats for our daily needs. I haven't had any rude interactions with staff or services that other people have mentioned. Generally, people have been helpful in telling me where to find some items. I don't think the layout of some of their product is intuitive, but I guess as I stay here a bit longer the map of the market will start making sense. I also haven't had any experiences with long lines, so for now I think Star Market is a great grocery resource in the neighborhood. read more

Wanted some non-expensive food while staying in a nearby hotel. Looking at the options at the hot food bar, I should've known it wasn't going to be good. The food looked old and over cooked. I have rarely had an issue with the starmarket and Back Bay. the supermarket is the price of the large located in the heart of Boston, offers a good selection of food and non-food supplies. Perhaps one of the best benefits of using a Star Market is there a reward system on their app. Often I'll get notified about Awesome and even free promotional items. The customer service has always been great anytime we need to make a return never had any issues or they'll give me a star more market gift card. The ambience is like any supermarket. However, as this supermarket is located in BB Boston, you may occasionally see some people walking in with their dogs while wearing a fur coat lol. read more

Where to start. This star market is DISGUSTING. I have personally witnessed employees putting months old expired cereal back on shelves (to the point where I had to bring it to physical attention of an employee who could care less). They are frequently out of any healthier variety of soda (they say shipments will come the next day but then you go back and wait days more). I have had an employee tell me they couldn't discount a loaf of bread that was HALF dented in transit and then told me that I could put it BACK on the shelf (expecting a customer to pay full price for a lower quality product). Also variety, how many bags of chips do you need that are the SAME flavor just a different brand? How many types of WHITE or WHEAT bread do you need? This isn't even variety it's LAZINESS. Who does the ordering for this location because they should be fired. Constantly expired or ALMOST expiring items that are shelved for purchase (sweet potato Kashi cereal) (creamer that expires tomorrow? How dare this company think that's acceptable to sell to customers), this is a perpetual problem that I have personally witnessed for more than ONE FULL YEAR. Shopping at this location is like shopping at a less classy WALMART. Going back to whole foods because even though I pay MORE at least they aren't trying to scam me with expired products WEEKLY. I rarely shop this store. It is somewhat convenient when I pass close to Back Bay, but not exactly a good place to just stop off while you cruise by on the Orange Line. It has a very central location and is great for the people who live in Back Bay, or a lot of time to pass in Copley square while waiting for a connection. The main selling point for me originally was that it was open 24 hours, but they recently ended that practice. Now it closes at midnight, which is fairly late, but not as great as it could be. Most recently I dropped in to buy some hydrangeas, because I could not find potted hydrangeas at any of my nearby florists. I bought two potted plants, and thought that I would be just fine. They both died. That will teach me a lesson about buying from a supermarket florist rather than a plant nursery, but but it a shame that they would sell dying plants like that. read more

They also have a nice salad bar, and a Whole Foods-like area where you can buy grains and nuts, etc. by the pound. They carry a nice selection of more high end and "regular" groceries. The only reason I come here is for the convenient location. The employees are seriously the worst- they don't acknowledge you, and if you say anything to them they look at you like you're insane. I work in customer service so I get that it's tough, but at least act like you care a little. I always feel weird after coming here because the employees make me feel like I did something wrong. It's a truly odd, out-of-body experience. The only way I can describe this place is it's as if you're shopping in high-end Copley where there's Gucci, Versace, Jimmy Choo...and then all of a sudden you're transported to some ultra inner-city supermarket, reminiscent of Stop and Shop in Dorchester, where no one cares about manners or customer service, and they treat you like you're some sort of inconvenience because they have to bag your groceries and put your money into their registers. Nice selection. Great location. I just wish the staff had better customer service skills. Simple "How are you's; Thank you's; Have a nice evening's" are always appreciated as a customer. I think the service here is pretty darn great. I generally like this store, and I've been shopping here for years. I know I wrote a review for when they were Shaw's so now here's one for Star Market. For starters, it's the only huge supermarket in the middle of metro Boston (before Roche Brothers opens on 29-Apr in DTX), it's super convenient, and the prices aren't bad at all. If I need a few things on the way home, it's no worries for me to pop over here and grab what I need. It's on the 9 bus line or within walking distance to orange and green lines. Prices can be crazy on some things, but I progressive shop - I have a few stores on my list where I buy certain things from. If I'm in a pinch, I'll get everything at one store. Star Market has what I need for the most part. Seafood section of the store is extremely helpful and their service is awesome. Same goes for the deli counter...and the wine shop...and the check-out peeps. All in all, a good place to shop in the city. read more

Good place to go and buy food if you are staying in the Coply Square area. This star market has everything that one could want from a super market. A little pricey but what isn't here in this area. This place is pretty damn big, they have so many damn products. Located across from the mall & one of the only grocery stores in the area. I went in thinking it would be easy to find something quick & cheap to drink. Not so much. I abided by the one way lane markings which of course many people disobey in this life of covid-19. I went up & down to find something cold & small to drink which took me a while. I finally did but was disappointed in their choices.
