Teishoku is served with steamed rice, miso soup, pickles and vegetable side. Everything in the set dishes was good. Pork was juicy and lightly marinated. The vegetable side was seaweed that accompanied nicely with the rice. ----- Onigiri & Miso Soup Set: two lightly seasoned sticky rice balls with your choice of fillings (£7.80). Add side of pickles and vegetables for £2.20. Filling choices were avocado, umeboshi, gohan desu yo, teriyaki mayo chicken, tuna mayo, smoked salmon. My brother picked tuna mayo and umeboshi. I tried a bite of the umeboshi unigiri. The rice was fresh and the pickled plum was extremely sour as expected. ----- Matcha Latte: frothy steamed milk whisked into matcha (£4.55). The quality of matcha was decent, although the drink itself was incomparable to the gyokuro that had such a refined taste. ----- Gyokuro: full bodied umami flavor (£4.85). A green tea with quite the peculiar flavor. It does require extra brewing time. ----- Make sure to book in advance. A couple that walked in after we were seated for our 12 PM Saturday reservation were told that the restaurant was fully booked until 2 PM. Seating in the outdoor garden was available, but it was too sunny and hot. Guest Wi-Fi is available.

Fuji Hiro…read morehasn't been on my radar at all over the past few years, and suggestions to eat here elicited all my skeptical and let's go somewhere else reactions. I wasn't even sure where it was, and when I realised we were heading towards the Merrion Centre I was less inclined to jump aboard the Japanese food train. If looks were everything this place wouldn't be too busy. It looks kinda dingy from the outside, and whilst the inside has a certain charm about it, it's not the Ritz but doesn't profess itself to be so. Think of it as a Japanese eatery version of the local cafe. I was looking over the menu, contemplating what to order, and being particularly hungry, did my unusual thing of looking at starters. My friend just shook her all knowing head at me and pointed straight to the mains. Huh? Well what was cloudy became clear within about ten minutes, as my hearty noodle dish came, steaming and smelling divine, and flippin huge. Seriously, I was pleasantly surprised at this. Considering how quick our orders came, I was more than pleased to take in the taste and how fresh everything was. It didnt have that 'been stewing all day in a pot waiting to be warmed up and served' taste, nor did it have quick food microwaved crunchy in some places and soggy in parts texture either. Being a dork with coordination, but feeling self conscious at the people opting for the chop sticks, I was relieved when a fork was provided for me. There's a good hustle bustle vibe about Fuji Hiro's and whilst the staff are not rude, far from it, there's an efficient business like approach to providing awesome food to their hungry clients, even the ones who are yet to walk through the door. Easy on the budget, good in the belly.

It was so small you had to go through the kitchen to use the toilet. The choice of food and drink did surprise me.. how could they find room to stock it all? With loads of different sake, juices and wines. Selecting a glass of plum wine ..himself green tea we pawed the menu. There was a great use of pictures which helped us decide. From various sushi Nigiri, temaki, sashimi etc to noodles and ramen dishes. I found the sushi a little over priced to the average sushi joint of this nature..we decided on the 12 piece sashimi and sushi platter ..for mains I chose my usual spicy seafood broth with udon noodles, beef and kimchi. Himself had the beef yakisoba. We inhaled the sushi as soon as it hit the table. It was good healthy amounts of tuna and everything tasted fresh. The wasabi did not mix well with the soya though.. My main was a far cry from what I had at Baekdu the week previous. This was packed with veggies..tender beef and seafood. The broth was also excellent. Looking up I could see my other half wolf down his..giving it the thumbs up . Overall the service was very good and food was a stark contrast to the restaurant. I would probably use this more as a takeaway if I were local but I wouldn't go there to eat again as didn't find it relaxing enough.

It seemed as though a lot of locals did the same too, as people kept popping in to investigate whilst we were eating, in the hope of an opportunistic free table. Despite only opening three weeks ago Sakura Houses' popularity is clear, the restaurant was packed but it's also only 6 tables, which may play a part! Either way we were lucky enough to snaffle a table for two off-the-cuff as there was a 45 minute space before a booking and our waitress was happy to make time and space for us. Due to being short of time we decided to stick to a simple meal each, so we didn't sample the sushi - which seems to be the main fare. I opted for a comforting plate of pork katsu curry and it was very tasty and freshly cooked, so fresh I almost burnt my mouth on the cutlet! My only issues were that it is currently cash only and that my meal came a good 5-10 minutes after my partners - but I honestly think these are just opening month niggles. Sakura House isn't fancy, it's an honest little restaurant with lovely staff and I think it's a welcome and refreshing addition to the area.

I was glad I did!! I went in around noon, quickly got sat down and given a menu, and then the problem was choosing what to have. I went for the teriyaki chicken meal set and it was quick to arrive. For a drink I just went with a Japanese green tea. The meal set was quick to come and it had a plate of teriyaki chicken, a bowl of white rice, and a bowl of miso soup. I loved all of it. I read up on the correct way to have it all, picked up my chopsticks and went to town. I was a little nervous for the miso soup as I've had one before and didn't like it but this one was amazing. The chicken was perfectly cooked and full of flavour, the rice shot, fluffy, and hot. I definitely will go back here as there was more I wanted to try. The ambiance was amazing, I was in front of the kitchen so could see the chefs preparing the food, and all the different bottles of sake were around so I could look at those and pick one if I wanted some alcohol. Their food is affordable (ranging from $9 to $21, see the menu photo for more information) I first found out about Kanda from two people that were showing people their menu on Queen Street and I was really interested, so I decided to check the place out a few weeks later. Turns out, Kanda is located on the basement of The Strand shopping arcade arcade, and to get there you can enter from their stairs (which has a great decor by the way) on the Elliot Street end of The Strand shopping arcade. I was greeted by a very warm and friendly woman who patiently attended my sister, grandmother and I - including our questions, even going to the kitchen to double check her answers for some even if we didn't ask her to! The restaurant itself is well decorated and very spacious - much more that it's nearby neighbors such as Daikoku, which has been established for longer and is nearly always crammed with people when it's dinner. They offered a lunch and dinner menu and an all you can eat choice (which seemed very tempting and I am more than willing to test and review soon) Yes, it is slightly more expensive for their snacks but they prepare and garnish them well - I ordered two Takoyakis for a test-run and they decorated it complete with extra seaweed cuttings on top (yay!) and to top things off, for this month only (their first month) they also have a free drink promotion. This hidden gem in the city is definitely worth checking out if you're looking for well prepared Japanese food in the city with a spacious/well decorated and clean restaurant, even if it means paying a few extra dollars for snacks that other restaurants (then again, their food is affordable so you can splurge on snacks, perhaps?)

It looked closed at first, but after trying the door we saw a couple of diners sitting in dark lightning. Immediately we were seated by a lady who gestured us to a seat. The booths were comfy, so we began to browse the menu. Each page held a lot of pictures of signature dishes. To drink I chose a reasonably price cocktail called Grand Slam £4.50..he had a asahi. These drinks took awhile to arrive but I understood why when I saw mine. It was split into three colours, unfortunately it didn't taste as good as it looked. Right food: tuna maki , £4 8 pieces, salmon maki wasn't not on the menu , these were made by request. Tuna sashimi,£8, nigiri and finally a seafood hotpot for myself and he had the spicy pork Raman, choosing udon noodles. The presentation was good, tuna was medium quality and the sushi reasonably sized. After all the sushi was consumed, the mains arrived. The broth in mine was tasty however I only found one scallop in my dish. His was also satisfactory for the price. I think the rating goes mainly to the service, as she was very pleasant and asked chef to create dishes that were not on the menu. The sushi was good. But when you have tried a lot like I have it becomes harder to be wowed.

I opted to sit on the Teppan Grill table and the chef kindly introduced me dishes and how they would be presented. Very friendly atmosphhere. Ordered a small Sake Wine and selected Sirloin steak cooked with Enoki mushrooms. Chef went to prepare whilst I waited and admired the decor. Within a few minutes, I was presented with a fresh sirloin which was instantly cooked in front of me which I wanted Medium Rare. Excellent quality of steak and the taste was unbelievalbe. Price of £19.80 including 2 sides, miso soup and rice together with the theatre and entertainment value is a steal. Will come back again and again and again!

Doring Sushi Bar has had a temporary sign up since opening at the tail end of last summer but I hope they are here permanently. I love sushi and I especially love low priced sushi! I had a platter of mixed sushi for £10 which I thoroughly enjoyed and didn't have left overs as I planned. My friend got salmon with edamame and rice and gave it a good report back. They also have the usual Japanese fare of chicken katsu, gyoza, etc on offer. I went on a quiet Wednesday lunchtime but I imagine this place us doing well in the evenings as Chorlton needed a sushi place, I now realise. The service was very friendly and the right level of attentiveness. There was an 80s mix CD on with the likes of A-ha and Cyndi Lauper which also pleased me. So, basically, I was a happy lady and I will return very soon.

Great value delicious sushi a 20 minute walk from my front door? Sign me up!…read more My friend came to visit and requested sushi because sushi is what you eat while on holiday according to her, and so I jumped at the chance to try Doring for the first time. We grabbed a table outside - beware the love seat, it is not very comfortable - and set about planning our feast. I can't remember everything that we ordered but we had some gyoza and edamame to start and then had an array of sushi and sashimi. All delicious, and the portions are pretty generous for the price. I was worried that we hadn't ordered enough, my friend was worried we had ordered too much, but it turned out to be a pretty satisfactory amount. We shared a bottle of house white wine which was perfectly fine. We also had some sake which I didn't love, though maybe I am just spoiled after the recent Yelp event featuring sake. The service was not great. Our waitress was very nice but seemed totally flustered. Thankfully as we were there for a nice leisurely meal this didn't bother us too much. Overall I really rate this place and I'll be back!
