Morning traffic can sometimes be heavy through the residential area, but I feel most schools have similar situations. We were fortunate to get in through the GE and have been happy with our choice.

A large amount of local vendors selling crafts, clothing, and other holiday goodies. They had four bounce houses and a bunch of games and prices for the kids. I was thoroughly impressed and great value for a day of fun for my son. We got the fun pass for unlimited bouncer play and 15 scrips for $25. Next year we will buy the presale for $20. The scrips are normally $1 per scrip. The schools fried noodles was awesome, that included geeen onions, kamaboko, bean sprouts, carrots, spam, and Portuguese sausage. My son and his cousins ran from bouncer to bouncer, to games, to all over the fields with their prizes. We'll definitely be back next year.

Report cards were often cut and pasted for each student and barely any attempt for teachers to communicate how student was doing individually. The other staff are great but the principal can be very rude. Would not recommend to anyone despite being a favorable school. Not sure why it's ranked as high as it is.

Mahalo Punahou School for hosting tonight's ILH cheer competition…read more Congratulations to all the participating schools, cheer squads, and supporters. Excellent win for Iolani taking all 3 divisions in first place: intermediate, JV and varsity. Love the comraderie of the audience sitting side by side with families of competing schools. The coolest thing was while waiting for the tallying of each school's points, the cheerleaders were in good spirits dancing on the floor to the music. So much aloha encompassed the gym. Smiles, hugs, leis of all kinds and roses being handed out to teammates and friends. A wonderful spectacle to witness and enjoy.

Disclaimer: this is a review of the tennis facility. I have played and coached many matches at this…read moreschool and it has a very impressive tennis complex. In the years since I was competing, they renovated the office/viewing area to include an upper deck. There are 6 courts with lights on the lower side and up a steep road there are 3 more courts. There is also a bleacher area to watch some of the matches from. Parking can be tricky and the one-way setup of the lot is difficult. If you pass an area, you have to go all the way out of the campus and back around the hill to get back on property. If you see a spot, even if it's not that close, take it! Weather is also an issue since it's in Manoa so we sometimes have rain delays/cancelled matches. Yesterday we almost had to postpone but luckily the weather held up enough to finish the match!

Plush green grass everywhere. Their campus is so beautiful it looks like a University campus. The first day was just an orientation for 2 hours, to let the parents know what they can expect. It was very informational. Even the principal spoke at this orientation. That was when I knew we chose the perfect school for my daughter. As all parents know, the transition from preschool to Kindergarten can be very trying. But this school makes it so easy. The teachers here are amazing. My daughter's teacher leaves notes in her homework folder to let us know how she's doing. My daughter had a rough start, so we had a meeting with her teacher and the counselor. They basically told us what we already knew, but they also gave us pointers. The staff here is wonderful and amazing. They also have a PTA which has a lot of activities throughout the year. There is a strong parent participation within the PTA. If you're looking for a school that will not let your child slide within the cracks, this is the school.

This is a Blue Ribbon School and they have met annual requirements every year. All staff are friendly and helpful. PTA is very involved. The school has fun activities planned for the kids and their families almost every month. The children seem well educated and wholesome. It's almost like a private school.

Now having experienced a second child going through the Kapalama system I have to say that this…read moreschool is... amazing. My firstborn was very unenthused about school. Still, his teachers got the best out of him and cared about him and made great efforts to communicate with me about his progress. My second child is a very different creature. She loves to excel. She loves to please people. She loves to be important. She loves a lot of things that could make her absolutely insufferable or make her into a thriving adult, depending on how her character is shaped. And having her in Kapalama is a radically different experience. When my son was in school, I heard tales of a band and a ukulele group and student council and a library club and a robotics team. Just elusive whispers that came and went and I took little notice because he tried his very best to not do anything extra, ever. Well. My daughter does every activity possible and I am so impressed with what they have to offer. Mr. Camarillo, the music teacher, is an incredible professional musician who pours so much time and effort into his students. My daughter goes in to practice with him during recess, she is in after school ukulele band and normal band and we just attended their first performance, which was outstanding. She is so lucky to have him. She also just finished competing with her robotics team, and they made it to states and won a couple of awards and she had the best time ever. I also attend nearly all of the parent workshops help once a month and she is already talking about all of the opportunities afforded to her next year as a fifth grader, like volleyball and basketball and jpo-ing and so on. I am so thankful for Kapalama and everything it has done for my children. Who knew a public school in Kalihi would be so great.
