Best Japanese in Lumberton and around and it's not even close. Been one of my favorites for a long long time. Always good, always fresh.

This used to be the place to go for good, fast, take out Japanese food but it's gone down hill. Your protein, mines usually chicken or steak, is always overcooked or for my last 3 visits it has been. Hard, and tough. Rice is rice. I usually stick with the mushrooms and carrots but for some reason I didn't get them in my plate this time. So rice and over cooked steak. I like the convenience of the drive thru but have already decided I will go across the road to Miyabi Jrs from now on and get my lazy butt out the vehicle for food that I can actually eat. $29 for 2 hibachi steak dinners and half was left off isn't worth it. read more

My family and I have frequented this restaurant for years. Tonight, the service was awful. It started on the phone. After I placed my order, she essentially demanded I be there in the next 5 to 10 minutes if I wanted hot food. Granted, I only live about 6 or 7 minutes away, but telling me to be there at a certain time is unprofessional. Tell me when my food will be ready and it's on me to get there. Secondly,arriving in about 7 minutes after placing my order, I was 3rd in line at the drive thru widow. Waiting about 4 minutes to get to the window and paying for my food, I was then told to pull around the front to continue waiting for my order. Thirdly, and the nail in the coffin, was when the same lady brought me my food, she demanded I checked my plate as she walked away. Walking away, she continued talking, sounding like she was saying something to the affect of "cause if you leave and it ain't right, it ain't my fault." I visited Kami after reading the positive reviews on here, and I was not disappointed. Driving up, it's nothing spectacular: it's in an old Taco Bell, with a pergola in front for outdoor seating. It's on a busy corner, so getting in and out was a little difficult. But once I got inside, it was well worth the trouble. You place your order at the counter, then they deliver to your table. The cashier who took my order was very cheerful and was patient with me as I asked questions about the menu. I placed my order for the beef/shrimp combo plate and soft drink and found a table. My miso soup and salad were delivered quickly. The soup is very much like you get at any similar establishment. The salad was basic, with a sufficient amount of the pleasantly zingy ginger dressing. When the wait staff delivered my salad and soup, the also delivered containers of the sauces. This was the first highlight of my visit: most places make you choose just one sauce and then give you the tiny plastic condiment cups of just that one (with some charging you extra if you want more). Not here! They brought out both the shrimp sauce and the ginger sauce in containers I'm accustomed to seeing with pancake syrup in them. I was thrilled to think that I didn't have to ration every drop of the sauces! Then my meal was delivered. A generous portion of both meats and veggies. In many of these types of restaurants, the standard beef can be a little chewy and sometimes very overcooked (I generally order my steaks medium rare). At Kami, every bite of the steak was nice and tender; juicy and not overcooked. Once again, add the fact that I could use as much of each sauce as I wanted and this was easily once of the best small hibachi-style restaurants I've ever been to. Adding to the great food was the fact that someone was regularly walking around the dining area offering refills and making sure everything was good. DELICIOUS AND HEALTHY! When you tired of eating at Taco bell and Bravo's Pleasant Pizza, come here. I recommend the Shrimp and Hibachi Chicken. We usually ate in Fayetteville for meals like this and they had zucchini instead of sweet carrots but the sweet carrots are even better. The Ginger sauce here is the best because most places are very bitter and strong. Friendly owner and wife. I love how they renovated the old taco bell it was in bad shape before it closed. read more

This place is a gem! For many years Lumberton has been a coffee and food stop on the drive between DC and Myrtle Beach. Most of of the food is ok, fast food and so-so chain restaurants. Kami's hibachi scallops was the real thing! Delicious fresh scallops and tasty vegetables with rice. Also very friendly and helpful service. Very happy to discover this place! read more

Massive quantities! Really nice teriyaki steak and veggies. Mound of perfectly season rice, broccoli and carrots. Steak was cooked well and tender. Soup was a miso type and very tasty. Spring rolls were also very well executed. Nicely crisp outside and fresh cabbage that still had a perceptible crunch to it. The dipping sauce was a light almost sweet and sour type. There are other sauces available as well. Overall, a win! Service was quick, gracious, and attentive. The real win was the price. 7-8 bucks for entree. read more

I got hibachi chicken here a little while ago- it was missing mushrooms and pretty mediocre compared to little Tokyo in Whiteville. I paid with American Express. AMEX just started a support small business program where the paid 5 in statement credit to small business that signed up. Waited in drive they 25 minutes to be told they didn't take AMEX?!??! Also menu prices appeared to be almost 50% higher than last time-about 8 changed to $12.00 on hibachi steak. read more

Absolutely the best value for your money in the area! The flavor of the food is out of this world. The fillet is fork tender and at 12.45 a plate you can't go wrong. The waitresses go out of their way make sure you have what you need. But what impressed me most was the level of honesty. I was accidentally given steak, instead of the fillet and the manager came over and brought me a plate of fillet. I was happily eating the delisious steak and was oblivious to the mix up. She insisted that I eat the fillet and sent the steak home with us. Outstanding integrity and customer service! read more

I moved away from Lumberton several years ago. The two restaurants I miss most are Thai Chili and Kami. Kami's Japanese cuisine is delicious. The chicken is lean and tender. The veggies cooked perfectly. I order the Teriyaki chicken with rice and sweet carrots. (you only get two white sauces per order. I don't mind this because two is plenty) The food is great. Some Japanese "fast food" restaurants offer fatty chicken and poor quality. Kami doesn't skimp on quality and the food reflects that. Try it. you'll be glad you did. read more

This is definitely one of the best places in Lumberton to eat! The employees are friendly, the food is fresh & the prices are budget friendly. Also, you will not have to wait very long on your meal. My usual wait is around 7-10 minutes. Also, if you choose to dine in, you will receive a small bowl of the broth. Very happy with this restaurant. Don't let the outside appearance fool you. The only downside is that I wish they had more appetizer choices, instead of just spring rolls. Crab wontons or cheese rolls would make a nice addition to their menu.
