All dishes were well made and tasty. The service was fast and friendly, as we could hear the sizzling of the wok and the sounds of mandarin instructions coming from the kitchen. I am surprised by the earlier poor ratings for this place. It certainly deserves a better ranking. I am sure we will be back for more Char Kuay Teow!

The hunt began with a visit to Blossom Court in Panmure, where we ordered two traditional favourites: Ice Kacang ($5.50) and Bubur Cha Cha ($3.50). For those unfamiliar with ice kacang, it's a uniquely Southeast Asian concoction of shaved ice with red beans, jelly, sweet syrup, and a myriad of other toppings... basically a snow cone gone berserk. Blossom Court's rendition was reasonably priced and looked promising, but it soon became obvious that there was too much ice, resulting in a total teeth- and brain-numbing experience. It needed another dousing of condensed milk and the multi-coloured rose syrup, and perhaps a spoonful of red beans, to make it more flavoursome so I wasn't biting into straight up shaved ice. Although its name may suggest some sort of exotic dance, bubur cha cha is actually a warm, coconut-milk based dessert soup, containing a medley of sweet potatoes, taro/yam and sago pearls. Bubur cha cha is only sold on Sundays in Blossom Court, though it's probably not worth the special trip. It had a slightly more diluted base than what we're used to. Like the ice kacang, the bubur cha cha just needed that something extra to live up to its authentic taste. We would be willing to return to give their main dishes a try, but insofar as their desserts go, Blossom Court's offerings were pretty mediocre. And so the hunt continues!

The lighting could be a bit brighter. The food- can't really classify them into any particular style. They serve pretty much every style of Asian dishes including Japanese, Koran, Chinese, Thai. Has pretty much the most popular dish from each region. I went with the rule of don't try random stuff and go for the dish that's recommended. The beef noodle soup was for sure a good choice. The broth was hearty, hint of spiciness, good amount of noodles and thinly sliced beef. Very well cooked and essentially melts in your mouth. The chicken laksa was not as good as what you can get from a Malaysian restaurant north of Bombay. The drinks- bubble tea.. The service- friendly, no complaint.

Although this is more an Asian restaurant as opposed to being specifically Chinese, we were pleasantly surprised by the taste of the food since the selection was so broad and not as specialized/specific. We ordered a variety of dishes to share amongst our party of 6 and everything was pretty good. The servers were nice and pleasant, the food was pretty good, and the prices are reasonable. I would recommend checking this place out. (My mom and aunts wanted to come back again the next night which was a no-go considering we were in Rotorua by then and were not going to drive back).

Hamilton is no different, but I've chosen to review this one, which I've been to several times now. Every time I go here, my family and I are one of very few customers in the restaurant. I might usually find that suspect, but we've been happy with our food every time. My husband is somewhat of a local legend at this restaurant, having been told that he is the only person who ever orders "Chinese hot" food and then eats it all. So, this place should be on your radar if you actually want really spicy food (not "New Zealand" spicy, but actually properly spicy). The chef actually came out to talk to my husband to confirm, and then to joyfully celebrate his eating of really spicy food. He was also cool enough to write down (in Chinese characters) some of the spice seasoning information for what he uses so that we could get it from the Asian market. My husband has been happily having very spicy food at home now, too. The decor is nice and the atmosphere is comfortable. We bring our kids here and have no trouble with it. The menus have recently changed and they do have a $10 lunch menu that has about 8 dishes on it to choose from. I had the Ma Po Tofu (which is tofu and mixed vegetables, though it's described as tofu and beans). My husband had the black pepper beef (really, really spicy). I ordered mine medium and I felt like it was properly spiced at that level. Yesterday, they also brought us out a cold noodle salad with spicy cucumber on top, on the house. Not only was it a nice gesture, it was awesome. For me, the menu options are a bit limited, but like I said, we've always been happy with all of our meals and they seem to be willing to actually kick up the spice, for real, if you're into that sort of thing :)

My husband and I usually joke that a good Chinese restaurant has menus in Chinese, only chopsticks and lots of Chinese people eating at it. This place didn't fall short. I will start by saying that you need to get past the exterior of this restaurant and go inside and give it a try. If you were just driving or walking by, it looks like a bit of a dump from the outside. So, I was pleasantly surprised that the inside was much nicer and cute. The menu had tons of options to choose from. I was feeling under the weather, so I opted for a bowl of handmade noodle soup with chicken. It was really tasty. My only qualm is that the chicken was served with the skin on and attached to the bone. I realize this probably really helps the flavor of the soup, but it's a pain when you're trying to eat a bowl of soup and have to fish out pieces to eat with your hands. Also, the bones were jagged in some places and I got a bit fearful of accidentally swallowing chicken bone shrapnel by the end of my bowl. That said, it was really good overall. My husband was very pleased with his beef and vegetable dish and they spiced it almost to his liking (he likes things REALLY spicy). I would definitely return (probably wouldn't get the chicken soup again, but would maybe have the same dish with pork or beef instead). The noodles were great and I look forward to trying some of the other items. What is also great is that the prices are really quite fair and certainly there is a great value for your money here (large portions, low prices).

But a table of 4 at 6:30pm took about a 30 minute wait to be seated. So not too bad in my book. The E-1 Spicy Fish, Mapo Tofu, and Dan Dan hand shaven noodles were excellent! And the marinated cucumbers in garlic helped cool down my mouth as well.
