It seems no matter where I've lived, there has never been a shortage of Chinese restaurants to…read morechoose from. Hamilton is no different, but I've chosen to review this one, which I've been to several times now. Every time I go here, my family and I are one of very few customers in the restaurant. I might usually find that suspect, but we've been happy with our food every time. My husband is somewhat of a local legend at this restaurant, having been told that he is the only person who ever orders "Chinese hot" food and then eats it all. So, this place should be on your radar if you actually want really spicy food (not "New Zealand" spicy, but actually properly spicy). The chef actually came out to talk to my husband to confirm, and then to joyfully celebrate his eating of really spicy food. He was also cool enough to write down (in Chinese characters) some of the spice seasoning information for what he uses so that we could get it from the Asian market. My husband has been happily having very spicy food at home now, too. The decor is nice and the atmosphere is comfortable. We bring our kids here and have no trouble with it. The menus have recently changed and they do have a $10 lunch menu that has about 8 dishes on it to choose from. I had the Ma Po Tofu (which is tofu and mixed vegetables, though it's described as tofu and beans). My husband had the black pepper beef (really, really spicy). I ordered mine medium and I felt like it was properly spiced at that level. Yesterday, they also brought us out a cold noodle salad with spicy cucumber on top, on the house. Not only was it a nice gesture, it was awesome. For me, the menu options are a bit limited, but like I said, we've always been happy with all of our meals and they seem to be willing to actually kick up the spice, for real, if you're into that sort of thing :)

My husband has been here on a number of occasions, but I finally just got around to coming here…read moremyself about a week ago. We came during the "lunch rush," time. My husband and I usually joke that a good Chinese restaurant has menus in Chinese, only chopsticks and lots of Chinese people eating at it. This place didn't fall short. I will start by saying that you need to get past the exterior of this restaurant and go inside and give it a try. If you were just driving or walking by, it looks like a bit of a dump from the outside. So, I was pleasantly surprised that the inside was much nicer and cute. The menu had tons of options to choose from. I was feeling under the weather, so I opted for a bowl of handmade noodle soup with chicken. It was really tasty. My only qualm is that the chicken was served with the skin on and attached to the bone. I realize this probably really helps the flavor of the soup, but it's a pain when you're trying to eat a bowl of soup and have to fish out pieces to eat with your hands. Also, the bones were jagged in some places and I got a bit fearful of accidentally swallowing chicken bone shrapnel by the end of my bowl. That said, it was really good overall. My husband was very pleased with his beef and vegetable dish and they spiced it almost to his liking (he likes things REALLY spicy). I would definitely return (probably wouldn't get the chicken soup again, but would maybe have the same dish with pork or beef instead). The noodles were great and I look forward to trying some of the other items. What is also great is that the prices are really quite fair and certainly there is a great value for your money here (large portions, low prices).

Holy moly, this place is the real deal! Authentic Sichuan dishes at very reasonable prices. The…read moredownside is there is a wait. But a table of 4 at 6:30pm took about a 30 minute wait to be seated. So not too bad in my book. The E-1 Spicy Fish, Mapo Tofu, and Dan Dan hand shaven noodles were excellent! And the marinated cucumbers in garlic helped cool down my mouth as well.

We walked in and the place was empty. After trying to get hold of the only waitress for ten minutes we finally got a table. We ordered two milk teas, a fresh green apple juice and one lemon tea. Then we ordered some food. The waitress was quite rude and ignorant and did not really listen to us. After coming to our table 3 times saying we don't have this and that, we were quite frustrated. We waited 15 minutes and got our drinks. We were very shocked. The fresh apple juice was a clear green drink.(sort of like unset jelly) I tasted this drink and it didn't taste one bit like apple juice. All that was in it was water food colouring and chemicals for flavouring. The milk tea did not taste like milk tea and was just like drinking sugar syrup. And finally the lemon tea was just some cold water with a dab of honey and a pinch of lime. After being very disappointed with the drinks, the food came a long time later. We ordered spring rolls, chicken, deep fried prawns and pad Thai and again were very disappointed. We started with the prawn Spring rolls. They were hard and very stale. Then we had the spicy chicken, the dish was tiny and the chicken was very chewy and was not nice. Then came the pad Thai. I had one bite and I was disgusted. The noodles were hard and the sauce was extremely sour. The prawns were hard and tasted very old. Finally came the deep fried prawns. This was the worst of all. The prawns had a disgraceful oder which was old seafood. I had one bite and felt sick. We went to pay the bill and the waitress was very rude again and said ' would oh give me a minute already!' I looked at the bill and it said 116 dollars! I was shocked! After dinner my whole family felt very sick and all vomited the next day. We had very bad food poisoning. I tried to eat but every time I ate I felt sick. We couldn't sleep at all! This is a message to all of you! NEVER EVER EAT AT MR PANDA EVER!
