Admittedly, I made an appointment with the first neurologist who had availability, which is how I came to the office of Dr. Joseph Kandel. I spent far more time in this office than I expected to - not in the waiting room but with Dr. Kandel asking questions, performing an extensive examination and offering several suggestions while giving me the option as to which to try first. I left the practice with a stack of paperwork not only summarizing the time spent but also with specific directions for exercises that might be helpful as well as some devices available from Amazon that might be considered. I found Dr. Kandel to be engaging and absolutely delightful. Likewise, his staff was friendly and efficient. Best of all - Dr. Kandel's OTC recommendation worked wonders in just one day. read more

Dr. Kandel is outstanding. My son suffered a traumatic brain injury and Dr. Kandel has so much experience and knowledge about the brain. He is extremely professional and sincerely cares about our son's well being. He's extremely thorough and asks if we have any questions and really takes the time to address every single issue. Every phone call that I have had to make to their office was answered promptly and courteously. They are able to bring his chart up right away and have even sent orders for an MRI & MRA before I even got off the phone with them. If I have a question for the doctor, they have on occasion been able to ask him immediately while I've waited on the phone or if he's with a patient, called me back within an hour. We have also never had to wait more than 10 minutes in the waiting room. We cannot recommend this doctor, his office and staff enough! read more

Initial visit was great with Dr. Kandel. After having the required tests completed follow up was non existent. Recommended treatments were not sent for authorization and after multiple calls and no followthrough I showed up for my followup appointment two weeks later to find out the authorizations were never put in. After being told I would get a call back that day, nothing was received. I followed up with my insurance and the request had been submitted without any clinical information. He himself was fantastic and I wrote a great review right away in light of it, but have to follow up with this review for full transparency. You should not have to follow up with an office multiple times about treatment they requested and you paid to receive. read more

I went to Dr. Kandel for the treatment of migraines on March 28, 2024. To date, I have not received any treatment because this practice has no idea what they are doing and they do not care about patients. A treatment method was discussed on 3-28 and I waited to hear back from them to schedule. After 1 month, I called to check on the status and they told me they were still working on authorization. After 2 months, I had to call again. I was told they would call me back with an answer & they never did. I messaged them on their website letting them know the problem and requesting to be contacted and still no reply from them. I called a third time asking to speak to the office manager, who was not available, but never called me back. And upon taking to my insurance provider, I was informed no prior authorization is required so just another reason not to trust this practice. I have been a patient of Dr. Kandel for 20 years. He was the best doctor - always made me feel as though he was working "with" me regarding my health - which required narcotic medications and a pain-management contract - which I followed faithfully. But I haven't seen Dr. Kandel in a few years now. I get only PA's, young kids who make it clear exactly how they feel about people like me, who require pain meds to be able to work and participate in society. "Heart patients who need Nitro are no different," Dr. Kandel used to say to me whenever I voiced concerns about addiction - "if a medication is necessary to have a fulfilling life, then there's no difference." When I got my latest PA, not a single prescription was sent to the pharmacy on time, for 8 months they were always late, sometimes up to 6 days (when you can't even refill until day 29) which was making me sick every single month from withdrawal. She also informed me I could no longer use my insurance, nor could I be self-pay - something I could previously do when between insurances. No HMO's either any more. It had to be PPO or nothing. I had to spend 400 dollars a month I couldn't afford, just to continue my medications. And when I asked to see Dr. Kandel for an appointment, I was told no. But I couldn't pay that exorbitant insurance price for the entire year, and so my policy lapsed - at which point I was "informed" I could no longer have my scripts filled. 20-years on a hard-narcotic, and then just dumped like yesterday's trash. read more

poor customer front office. i tried to move my husband from nasa to dr. kandel, big mistake. nasa sent my husbands records to madison and katie three times and they claim the records were never received! nasa sent me confrimation of the fax and it went through successfully. do not trust this office!!!!!! the most uncaring, unprofessional group of people i have encountered. find a better solution for yourselves or a loved one!!!!!!! read more

Came to Dr. Kandel after being hit by a car on my bike. I am not a Doctor or an expert but after 5 visits and $4000 dollars I quickly realized our values and what I think medicine should be about did not meet eye to eye. I had shoulder pain radiating down my arm and his recommendation was drink water and do CBD. Also sent me to a very expensive drug test which being in the aviation industry I am randomly drug tested soooooo seems like maybe he might have an alternator motive. This is just one persons view but if you do choose to see him I would be very VERY cautious. read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Kandel for many years. At my first appointment he promised that he could change my life in one year. After many years of too many different medications, procedures, Botox injections, etc., my problem has not changed as drastically as he promised. After 2 years, my appointments with Dr. Kandel quickly changed to seeing whoever was available, other doctors, physician assistant/nurse practitioner. I have not been treated by Kandel in years. I have met others who had the same experience and no longer are patients. At my last appointment, which was an urgent matter, I was told that since I was 18 minutes late I could not be seen. I can't evaluate Dr. Kandel as a doctor, but I don't think much of him as a person. My husband is a veteran receiving VA healthcare due to having served at Camp LeJeune. As many people know, the VA healthcare system can be difficult to navigate. This is very true with neurological diseases in the West Palm Beach VA Health System. They have 1 neurologist for their entire district. We were excited when my husband became eligible for Medicare so that we could go outside the VA system for neurology. We live in south central Florida, between Clewiston and Labelle, not many healthcare providers of any kind nearby. We get most of our care in Fort Myers, with most of his VA care in West Palm Beach. We enrolled him in Medicare/Humana because we are planning on just using it for his neurological care. Dr. Kandel participates with Humana. I called for an appointment and was told that they would have to check with Dr. Kandel to see if he would accept him because we were not in their county. Received a call back that they will not accept him because of the distance. When I asked what that had to do with it as Dr. Kandel would not be traveling, I was told that "since COVID" this is their "policy." What kind of a person would use that excuse to not see a Veteran? Dr. Kandel is a quack. Stay far away from this practice. Go see a real neurologist. I was sent to this person by my doctor with a cat scan showing severe head pressure. He did some tests regarding nerve damage (?) , came back in the room and stated "There is nothing wrong with you" Go see my friend the chiropractor. Which I did and went back to my doctor to see what else this could possibly be. Months passed, my condition has continue to worsen to the critical stage. I have been into the emergency room 3 times getting spinal taps relieving the pressure from my head. I attempted to see another neurologist, made an appointment only to get a call back a couple of days later stating they refuse to see me and to go back to Kandel. I dug in and found out they are friends from when Kandel worked at the NASA group. So not only has he caused me pain and suffering now he is preventing me from getting care elsewhere. He is a complete scumbag. Then after I left him a bad review, he sent me a bill showing I owed him for an appointment that I never had, which is a federal offense. Needless to say, he is not an honest man, not a good doctor and who knows what else this guy is up to. Stay far away. read more
