While many newsagents stock solely tinned and convenience food, Holborns also carried a large selection of fresh fruit, veg, meats and refrigerated foods. I remember stopping by there when I needed that certain ingredient for a recipe, thinking no way they'll have this, but I'll try and sure enough, there it was. Hooray! They carry fireworks and Christmas trees during the appropriate times of year. They also offer a newspaper delivery service, and, if I'm remembering right, a grocery delivery service for a small fee.

I always see the same man working alone in the store and this little store can become quite busy. They have a huge selection of magazines and newspapers as well as all the basic items you might need. Their shelves are always fully stocked which is a plus. I am not exactly sure if they accept credit cards, never tried due to so many people coming in and out and I don't want to inconvenience everyone else for the sake of £5 or so. They sell bus passes and travel cards and you can top up Oyster. I am almost sure that they open at 7 in the mornings, so if you ran out of credit, tada! There is no cash point in the area, so be prepared. Oh and they do sell scratch cards and the National Lotto.

They do open about 7am, and stay until about 7-8pm 7 days a week. It does get very busy as it is the only local shop to offer Oyster top-ups, bus passes and sell Oyster cards, otherwise you have to travel to a shop near Sainsbury's to get Oysters. If the newspaper you want is out of stock, come back in the evening and a fresh stack will be waiting. It is very clean there, and very well run. Odd times it is closed until later in the morning, but as the one man runs it, of course this can happen due to delays etc. However this is rare, and he will always be open each day in the end. They do take bank debit cards at a 50p standard charge, not sure about credit cards. They even sell batteries!

There is also a large stand with greeting cards for all occasions. This shop is really a mix of newsagents and corner shop, selling all sorts of convenience foods. The prices are slightly higher than the local supermarkets, but the convenience of buying a pint of milk almost right on your doorstep is worth paying extra for, in my opinion. You can also get you tube/bus passes here. the bus stop is right in front of this shop, so a quick top-up of the Oyster card is more than convenient here.

So at her prodding, I went (which is not that unusual). This newsagent has your typical selection of papers, magazines, cancer sticks, and snack foods (which are not that unusual). I did find my preferred Kettle Chips brand of crisps, along with some Walker's for said colleague. Another one asked me to only bring back crisps only if they were unusual enough to offer comedic relief (which is not that unusual) to a long afternoon. Lo and behold, what appears before my very eyes but the most unexpectedly unusual and obscure flavour of crisp: sweet Thai chilli pepper! (In case you were wondering, I thought this was unusual.) With my variegated bags of crisps in tow, a less-than-exciting afternoon became an entertaining romp of flavour-tripping. All thanks to Bhavini's News, a newsagent that isn't unusual, but carries some unusually flavoured crisps!
