Cal State Teach - Don't do it. This is a SCAM.

If anyone out there is seeing this and thinking about doing this program, I would say only do it as…read morean absolute last resort. The advisors are incredibly ill-prepared and disengaged. The online work is out of date, they don't tell you how to turn it in or where, and the places where you are meant to turn things in (on THEIR website) don't match the work assigned in the online workbook that THEY wrote, so sometimes the teachers will say, 'you didn't do the work correctly' because there are two separate sets of instructions. The 'modules' are based on different areas of learning so you'll do say, a science lesson unit, and then a math lesson unit, record yourself, and turn in some reflections and lesson plans, but the only direction they really give you in terms of these lessons is, make sure its inclusive and that there's something fun in it like art. No one ever talks to you about the new unit/module and what the focus or goal is. You meet with a cohort of other students to try and figure it out together, and I was usually the only one who could help anyone. Many of my classmates were older and didn't know how to use the website, and one of them told me he never turned anything in and he was still passing (I turned in every single assignment). There are never any recommendations for scripted curriculum or other useful advise teachers would need to know. You will also never learn anything about classroom management other than, don't use a red pen to correct because it will make students feel bad, and don't use a clip chart because that will embarrass them. The way you have to be mentored and do hours is very strict according to the California teachers commission, and they never tell you how it works, contact your mentor teacher, or make it clear exactly what you are supposed to be doing. They don't check that you have your proper emergency credential or explain the difference between a university inter, an emergency credential, a STIP, a PIP, etc and they don't help you apply for it. They give you a handbook, but my pdf never worked correctly, and no one ever responded to my emails when I asked questions I should have been able to read in the handbook that I couldn't open. They also have a contract with apple where they force you to buy a refurbished ipad and dont ever provide you with the receipt for it (I asked). They don't help place you in a school, they don't help with the caltpa, and they don't understand the requirements from the CTC, and they don't know which exams aren't required anymore so they will direct you to take a $400 exam you don't need. You are just paying them for the paperwork, and they will do little to nothing to support you understanding what exactly you are supposed to do. The orientation is 2 hours and it's just a feel good share out about your feelings, and then someone from apple telling you about the apps they offer for teachers that you can use. So, if you really want to teach, but you can't afford to take a year off work to be an intern, you gotta do what you gotta do, but this university is lazy and it's not even through Fresno state, they just rent an office there. Avoid at all costs, in the end its 10k that you wasted for a very difficult career.

Applying here was a massive embarrassing mistake…read more The term had started but nobody had been placed for student teaching. I had even found the program a district near me open to having me placed there, but nothing ever came of it since my advisor kept putting off contacting them. Advisors are difficult to reach, and are more focused on their other postions (this is a side hustle for them). The director recorded himself for 10 minutes in a makeshift mancave through a desktop camera as our "orientation" two days before the start of the term. You're given online modules and a pacing guide and then expected to teach yourself through broken links, outdated curriculum, and cohort meetings you're also told to set up on your own time. I legitimately don't know if any lectures actually take place with any professors at any point. I totally understand being independent and self-driven, but the lack of leadership is beyond apparent. You start off already behind on assignments, readings, and can only catch up by ignoring most of the materials and sources you're thrown in the modules. I did not go through with the program. I dropped out the second day of the term and very fortunately got my full refund. The appeal of a fully online program is obvious, but CalState Teach DO NOT have the resources or infrastructure to fulfill what they claim to give their students. Inquire and clear any doubts you have before paying them anything; trust your gut..

Now being an Alumni and seeing that this library is very unique. I always had my favorite spot on the third floor buried behind books so I could concentrate and focus without being noticed by the abundance of people I know. However they now changed it into an area where you cannot study :( But this Library has loud areas, social areas and areas to study. They have a Multimedia are where you can chill and watch videos, music and do whatever that cause for media. They have a reading room which you have to be a VERY quite person to enter and I found out if you think you are a quite person the reading room will either confirm it or you will learn you are far from a quite person. They have Starbucks which doesn't take on many of the promotions from national Starbucks or any student discounts. They have events hosted like museums and artwork show casings. There is able seating and helpful Librarians to help with anything you are looking for. I enjoyed this library very much when I received my bachelors and coming back Post Masters is great to see what changed in two years!

Considering National University for a Psy D? DO NOT DO IT. Formerly, the PsyD program was at JFK…read moreUniversity, acquired by National University, and then ran independently. Assured that JFK University would remain open and independent, they eventually closed JKF University, surrendered the APA accreditation, and began a "new" program under the National Unversity banner, naming the program The JFK School of Psychology at National University. After 3/4 of the faculty resigned and multiple staff promised to stay with the program, they too resigned. Several new, mostly adjunct faculty filled in some of the gaps yet the program remains understaffed, underfunded, and now, UNACCREDITED. The program is currently seeking accreditation and if granted by the APA, you will know the accreditation process is a sham. I won't even touch basis on the hypocritical curriculum, communication problems, lack of transparency, or the basic lack of a catalog describing the coursework required and the class content for the doctoral degree. You will be on your own. The JFK University financial aid department continues its ineptitude and arguably criminal conduct under the National University banner. Don't expect any information on your loans. Expect late loan disbursements while you accrue interest on money you haven't been given, 2+ weeks to respond to your email inquires, and expect NO CONTACT via phone with the financial aid department. LOOK ELSEWHERE FOR A PSYD program and AVOID THIS ONE AT ALL COSTS. You have been warned.

I'm a part of NU's BSN program. We are almost done, but wanted to write an overall experience…read morereview of the program for future students. 1. Scheduling. Have a job? Good luck not getting fired. They send out class schedules sometime the DAY before, so scheduling shifts (if they are anything like mine) is impossible. You WILL be calling out and if your job is strict on attendance. 2. Price. It's a private school so I never expected a cheap program. However, itemized billing is a little... shady. "Technology fees" "Nursing fees" etc... all random, un-detailed, charges for each class. If I had more insight as to what I was paying for, I wouldn't be concerned. They raised the price of tuition for 2023, at least I think that is was happened- we NEVER got a notice that this would happen, they just started charging more in monthly tuition in the new year. 3. Professors. In the BSN program, they are very hit & miss. Sometimes, you'll get one that truly wants you to succeed. Other times... they are there for the paycheck. 4. Class times/days. Look, as I mentioned, I get it's a private school. But... 6 hour classes on Sundays? In the morning? Really? What about those who attend church? School is more important? I guess it depends on who you ask. They go off of the professor's schedule, which is fine. But really? Sat/Sun classes are common & mess up a lot of your family & rest time. 5. Guidance counseling. Never heard of her. You are assigned one, but 9 times out of 10 they are from the san diego unit and will have no clue what you're talking about (concerning Fresno's program). 6. Support. Need to reach somebody? Maybe about your bill? Unless you are signing up for classes, expect a week's wait. 7. Hierarchy. There really isn't one. Lots of professors are leaving for many of the reasons above. They are short-staffed and are assigned to a class within a few days of it starting. I feel just as bad for them as I do for students. 8. Opportunities. As an NU student, you will NOT be able to get a job in the hospital as a nurse extern. You will need to enter as a PCT/CNA. I've done this for 3 years, so it's fine. However, externships are crazy beneficial to the schools around us and their students. it is a paid, hands-on, clinical day. You get way more experience doing this, but NU does not contract with any local hospitals (as of now). There are few volunteer opportunities and they only sign you up for the minimum clinical hours required by the BRN. Overall, there are many flaws to this program. I have learned a lot and have had great experiences. If you have the grades and TEAS score and get in, I wouldn't say it's bad enough you shouldn't accept the admission, but just be prepared for a lot of difficulties throughout your time with NU. Good luck future nurses :)!
