I don't know why this place doesn't have any recent reviews, but it's an amazing martial arts place. My son loves it and so do I. You can tell the positive impact it has on his behavior just after the 1st few lessons. The staff is awesome and lucky to have something like this in the area. read more

Well, this is yelp and I have to write an update to what I have experienced. First of all, I want to clearly separate the instructors and instruction from the business side of Karate for Kids. I still think the instructors are great but the business side of this particular location to me is unethical. First, I bought four vouchers from livingsocial.com because on the voucher it said limit four per family. When I went to redeem the vouchers, they would not even honor the first one because right away they tried to hard sell me by telling me that I had to pay an enrollment fee of over $100 to start. Well, I refused because the voucher said clearly one month of unlimited karate lessons and a free uniform. So I got my son his first month of unlimited karate lessons plus uniform per terms of the voucher. They also told me it was meant for 4 (separate kids) per family even though it said nothing of the sort in writing on the voucher. When the first month ended, Karate for Kids begrudgingly "allowed" me to turn in the second voucher. By the end of the second month, my son was ready to go from white belt to orange belt and to my shock, they told me it would cost me $70 to pay for his belt. My son, who is five, was sitting right there waiting to graduate so I said I would pay the $70 because I did not want to disappoint him. Then one of the instructors continue to tell me in order for my son to graduate, I would have to pay the enrollment of over $100 plus $147/ month (they were giving me a $40 credit for my remaining two vouchers) and after 2 months, my fee would go up to $187. He also told me that the vouchers were for a "special introductory class" where you were allowed to take one class a week for 4 weeks even though the voucher clearly said unlimited amount of classes for one month right on the voucher. Needless to say, my son did not graduate because the terms were outrageous. Karate for Kids when you log onto their website has no fees posted for a good reason. Because once you walk into their door, they try to hard sell you into the highest membership possible. If you refuse, they tell you they are holding a special karate class on a Sat morning and invite you to attend with your child. Once you are there, they try to get you to pay for a year of fees upfront with discount, of course. During this time there are no mention of other additional fees like $70 per belt or any other fees. I think a lot of parents once they are roped in because they've paid for a year worth of classes upfront just pay these other outrageous fees because they feel like they don't have a choice. I can't believe no one has yelped about this. Well, I'm keeping it real and I'm yelping. I've also contacted livingsocial.com and filed a complaint that this particular location is not honoring the terms of the livingsocial vouchers. The truth is, if they would honor my vouchers per the terms they themselves printed on the vouchers, if they were clear and upfront with all their fees, I would most likely have my son continue taking their classes for years to come. But to have fees blindside me is hard for me to swallow. Needless to say, I am extremely disappointed that for a business where they teach the kids about respect, responsibility, honor, and honesty, that they have not shown respect, responsibility, honor, and honesty to me. read more

"Eyes on who?" My 3 yr old and 1 yr old snap to attention: "YOU, MOM!!!!!!!" Mr. Kreskow and Ms. Sanborn, you are magical toddler-whispering ninjas. 3 months ago I was struggling to get my son to follow directions and hitting was beginning to become an issue. Karate turned out to be the perfect fit. They focus on discipline and it gave my son a guided outlet for his aggression. The instructors are phenomenal with the kids. They are firm, respectful, high energy, playful, and encouraging. They know exactly how much to push each child to reach their personal potential. I was so impressed to see that even with their developmentally challenged students, they deftly support and train the child alongside his peers without babying. I think it's important to note that your child may resist class at first and that's to be expected so don't be discouraged. My son often made an elaborate show of resistance but I kept making him attend because the moment class ACTUALLY started, he loved every second of it. Getting there was the problem. By the 5th class he was proudly donning his uniform but still making a scene. By the 14th class he was excited to go and was glowing with pride. His focus and discipline had spilled into the home life and I couldn't be happier. The reviewer mentioning the convoluted pricing and payment structure is not wrong. It was almost enough to turn me off to them, but after talking to various mom friends who had their young children attend this location and then tried other (cheaper)karate schools in the area, they all agreed that these instructors were by far the best. To see my son take so much pride in his discipline and self care is all I need to know we made the right decision in coming here. My one year old daughter is already doing high kicks with the best of them but will have to wait a couple years to join her brother lol. read more

I put my son in ATA Karate for Kids when he was 5 because I wanted him to build his self confidence and I couldn't have made a better choice. I don't think he'd be as self possessed and centered as he is today without Karate for Kids. I had been looking for something to help my son feel more comfortable at school and decided on karate. I went to many different places but nothing felt right - mostly because the instructors weren't willing to talk to me and answer my questions. Often I was left standing in a lobby, looking around for someone to help me and feeling foolish. I honestly didn't know what I was looking for, I just wanted to help my son. I'd given up on touring karate studios and was walking through a mall when I saw a woman and a girl in karate uniforms at a kiosk. It was Mrs Sanborn and her daughter Lucy - I still wouldn't have approached them but Mrs Sanborn came out to talk to me. She was so friendly and nice, answering any questions I had plus a bunch I couldn't think of - and seeing her daughter looking so confident and happy while she was showing off to my son was probably the only thing that could make me feel comfortable in a karate school again. I signed my son up for a month of classes to try it out. My son was so shy, I wasn't even sure he'd go onto the floor. This is when I discovered that it wasn't just Mrs Sanborn who was so awesome, but it seemed like every instructor I met at the school was enthusiastic, caring and wanting to help, especially Sr Master Moody. Pretty soon, my son was out there learning forms and (almost) yelling with all the other kids; he was learning that new situations didn't always have to be scary. After watching my son kick ass for a few months, I found out parents could take classes too in an adult program. I was so excited to go to class, but was very nervous too and I almost chickened out. When I saw a guy putting on sparring gear and bouncing on his toes outside the studio before my first class was supposed to start, I actually said "Nope", turned around and walked back to my car. Mrs Sanborn ran out and brought me in, let me know it wasn't some sort of fight to survive your first class; that the guy I saw was getting ready for a different class and I wouldn't be doing anything like that for a while. (She might be a psychic) The point is, neither my son nor I would've been able to do something this awesome if it weren't for the great instructors at Karate for Kids. They are very kind and will always help you through anything you need help with. read more

It would be an understatement to say that ATA/Karate for Kids has changed my son's life. He has been involved for the past two years, and has grown into a confident young man. When he began karate he was more introverted and didn't consider himself athletic. Now he doing backflips, sparring, competing and feels completely confident. The instructors are patient and kind. They care about each student (young and adult), and teach to all levels. I wish the review could truly convey how great this specific school is. I read the review below, and I can say they have been fully transparent about fees - we have never had a question about the monthly charges. When you compare to what others pay for dance or hockey, this is no more than any other competitive sport. The instructors are not volunteer parents, they have all been in Taekwondo for years. Mrs Sanborn has done a great job acclimating our 5 year old twin girls to class. She has been kind and caring to build their confidence while having fun at the same time. Mr Kreskow is an awesome instructor who is firm but very fair. My girls have been taking classes for nearly 6 months and have gained a lot of confidence and have gained karate knowledge. We are lucky to have these two professionals teach our kids karate! read more

My kids have been going for several months now! They both enjoy it a lot and have become better students and kids. They have learned respect and discipline from here much better than I could have shown them. They have come to love Mr Kreskow and Ms Sanborn a lot! I can't wait to watch them grow in this sport! With every sport there is of course a cost and I can't put a price on the confidence my kids have gained! There are many extra programs that they can enjoy and take part in as well! read more
