The waitress was nice but not overly friendly (although she ended up being one of the friendliest people on our trip in retrospect, turns out the Austrians -at least the one we met- are not particularly warm and fuzzy people.) We had the boiled beef which came with delicious potatoes, chive sour cream, and horseradish applesauce. This was super delicious and one of the Viennese specialties on our to-try list so we were happy to check it off! We also tried the turkey schnitzel which came with a "salad" (iceberg, a lot of tomatoes, and potatoes?) Prices were reasonable and atmosphere was cool. Heaven. Potato salad - perfect; a little on the sweeter side. No mayo here, as it should be. Also, we were craving veg, so ordered the rucola salad. This being Austria, it was covered in ham and a sharp cheese. I'm not complaining The room had a simple, cozy cellar bar feel. It was a tad warm inside. Friendly service. Although I tried my best with German they also spoke excellent English. Drinks wise - hubby enjoyed the lager beer and I loved the Weiss gespritzt. At €3,90 a glass, I was happy! The schnitzel was perfectly cooked and paired beautifully with their potato salad, which was also really good. We also tried the Tafelspitz, served with a flavorful beef broth and vegetables. It was hearty, fresh, and packed with flavor. Their house beer on tap was refreshing and went perfectly with the meal. But the real showstopper was dessert--the famous Kaiserschmarrn with apricot. These fluffy, shredded pancakes were absolutely divine, and the apricot added just the right amount of sweetness. Easily one of the highlights of the meal! Service was impeccable, and everything tasted fresh. I highly recommend making a reservation, especially because this is a small restaurant and it clearly has a strong following among locals. The atmosphere is lovely, with a neighborhood, non-touristy vibe that makes the experience feel authentically Viennese. The staff are friendly and speak enough English to be very helpful (we are Australians on holiday). The food is pretty good too... We have eaten in on quiet a few nights and none of the meals have been lacking. Have been enjoying the exploration of the local Austrian beers that are bigger than my torso.
