My first decision involved which table did I want to eat at - one in the Schanigarten or one inside. I chose a window table inside just because I like looking at all the Tunisian artwork. To start with, I ordered the excellent Tunisian soup with Linsen. It was a hearty bowl and got my taste buds all excited. The national Tunisian dish of lamb couscous which followed was also delicious. I love the texture of Tunisian couscous and adding in the fresh veggies and generous lamb portion, it was a dish I could not finish. Half of it went home for another delicious meal. And you know what? I def ordered (and indeed paid for) the small portion ... very ample serving!!! The older couple working here are the owners. They both take your order and cook as well as greet you. When you want to eat good Tunisian cuisine in Vienna, look no further then Le Couscous Chez Rachid. The first night we shared a mixed platter of three different types of fresh grilled fish. The fish was prepared perfectly; each fish served whole and deboned for us at our table. The second night we had various dishes including pasta, grilled squid (best we have ever had) and mussels in a white wine, tomato sauce. All excellent. Not a huge selection of items, but what they do have is very filling, and includes different sauces to spice it up, if you like. The drinks menu, though, is pretty extensive. (I was overjoyed to find that they had Malibu.) Tasty selection of Israeli wine, as well as a fantastic hot chocolate with rum for cold days. Downsides: There's little room to sit inside, which discourages big groups. Not a problem in summer, though, since they set up tables on the sidewalk. The service is another story. The servers tend to push by without apology and can be unfriendly and impatient. But I go to Maschu for the food, not to chat up the waiter, so this doesn't bother me. This is only the servers - the two guys who cook and work behind the counter (one also sometimes serves) are always friendly and quick to laugh. I DO go to chat with them. :) Also, watch the prices: The menu items on the Neubaugasse site can sometimes be a few more euros than the same items at the Schwedenplatz location.

My daughter ordered the French toast, and I tried the Monk omelette the server recommended. After too many mornings of coffee and cake, it was nice to have a real, satisfying breakfast. The place isn't fancy, but the food was good and reasonably priced. Definitely recommend if you're looking for solid food without the fancy price tag.
