She is amazing. I played beach volleyball professionally and had an ankle injury that was not healing from a year ago. I went to c her after frustration with 2 other podiatrists, who gave my ankle/x-rays and MRI only cursory looks, and then proceeded to provide minimal care and guidance. With no prior feet issues, I randomly picked Dr. Anderson from my BCBS provider list. Without exception, Dr. Anderson is simply put...amazing! I was diagnosed with a broken bone, which she attended to immediately. Then there were the nail issues and again Dr. Anderson began immediate treatment. I went through the treatment without delay and was set on a course to recovery. Unfortunately, I developed a rather common infection (not related to Dr. Anderson's work) which Dr. Anderson then cured using an approved medication of her own design. Seriously, this physician is like no one I have ever encountered. On one occasion I was having some difficulty with a pharmacist - on a weekend - and Dr. Anderson took my call (seriously, she answered my call), was connected to the pharmacist, and then problem solved. Dr. Anderson is a great Podiatrist. She's overall comprehensive when explaining the procedure that I was going to have. She returned my calls in a timely manner and took the time to explain whatever questions that concerned me. Just got off the phone with Dr. Anderson's office. I was referred from my orthopedic surgeon to Dr. Anderson for an evaluation and possible orthodics. When I looked her up on my insurance "find a doctor" she wasn't listed! I called the office hoping for a mistake. Nope... she isn't a provider under my insurance. The person who answered the phone was very courteous and helpful. She explained that there were only a limited number of doctors on my plan, and that it would be hard to recommend someone. I told her I had a terrible experience with another podiatrist under my plan and asked if I could read her the names covered and see if anyone stood out. I read the names and she helped with a referral to someone. I am so thankful for this extra step because it means I'm not shooting in the dark. This extra courtesy is RARELY found in doctor's offices - either because they are overworked or just don't care. Thank you for helping! read more

Dr. Anderson has a wonderful professional yet casual atmosphere to her office. She knows her craft well and explains things in laymen terms. She is confident and so very competent. She has a staff who makes you feel relaxed and give their undivided attention to you. Unlike some medical practices, they welcome questions. I would highly recommend Dr. Anderson. read more

Average Physician with a rather poor bedside manner. This may hide competence. Beware of her extreme appointment policy. She can make you wait 45 minutes for an appointment, but if you are 5 minutes late, she cancels and charges you $45. I found her office staff in La Jolla to be as mean as the clerks at the post office. read more

Dr. Karen Anderson is the very BEST foot and ankle doctor I have ever had, and this is tremendous praise for her, as since the age of 10, I have endured close to 20 surgical procedures on my feet/ankles. Most of the surgery I've had has been performed by Orthopedists, with just a few by Podiatrists. Operative areas include all my toes, many of them multiple times; both heels; both ankles; nearly all of which have had revisions. Dr. Anderson has sculpted orthotics of various types that have made wearing my orthopedically correct shoes bearable on a routine basis for many years, but most of all her expert capability to diagnose and treat very dangerous infections is unparalleled. Recently I developed an extraordinarily painful STAFF infection in my left heel, from a scratch I somehow sustained. I was not able to bear weight on it and overnight an extreme florid scarlet swelling occurred. I was scared. Dr. Karen got me into her office the same afternoon, although she was in the O.R. with surgery all day. Her immediate diagnosis, even before cultures she took for testing was done, was severe STAFF infection. Dr. Anderson's extreme diligence and attention to this serious condition were above what I'd ever experienced previously. She had me in the office every day, even on the weekend (while her office is closed) to run X-Ray and other highly advanced diagnostic equipment, AND daily injections of antibiotic to supplement the oral antibiotic regimen she'd prescribed for home use. The condition was of the utmost danger of spreading to bone tissue and becoming necrotic - and if gangrene set in, I was at risk of amputation. She had the hospital O.R. reserved in the event the MRI showed infectious tissue too close to the bone. Dr. Anderson continuously redesigned the surgical boot she put me in, redressed the wounds every day and at last, the infection healed and I owe a great debt of gratitude to her for saving a leg and possibly my life. My brother is a General Surgeon, whom Dr. Anderson kept in close touch. He, too sings her praises and could not possibly be more pleased with her treatment and success. I have been a patient of Dr Anderson's since 2008. I originally came in for one issue related to my feet, but ended up having an issue related to my knee resolve as a result of her treatment. I ended up needing custom orthotics. When I came back to pick them up, she had me try them on in the office. They felt a little odd, and I told her so, expecting that she would tell me I would just get used them, but that wasn't the case. She tweaked them in some way, had me try them on again, and they ended up feeling amazing. I haven't had to visit her much. Maybe once or twice in a span of 6 years. Then I ended up having to see her again...and quite a few times in a 6 month span of time, but this time it was for a severe ankle injury...fractured bones, severed ligament, another ligament partially torn, the works.. After the bones healed, something had to be done about the ligaments. Well, this is when I realized how progressive she was. She gave me two choices, the normal surgery that has to be done for the torn ligament, or platelet-rich plasma therapy. She explained what it was, and I left to do my research on it. Turns out it's been done in professional athletes for quite a bit of time. I wanted to avoid surgery as much as possible, so I chose to do PRP. I'll be honest, I was actually a bit skeptical because i don't personally know anyone who has had it done but figured I'd give it shot if I could avoid surgery and if it didn't work...? Unbelievably, it worked. Not only did it work, but the ankle that the procedure was done on is so much more stable than the one that wasn't injured. The procedure itself wasn't a cake walk, but didn't take much time and whatever she did, it worked. I am so grateful that I found someone who practices progressive medicine, because it spared me from having surgery and all the recovery time. Seriously...brand new ankle, it's amazing. Just recently, I had an issue with my other foot. I wish I had gone to see her sooner. 3 days after she gave me a cortisone shot, the pain and swelling were totally gone. She is very smart, and I always feel like she really cares. I love that she incorporates more modern medicine in her practice. And let's face it, and in-office procedure will cost far less than surgery, and yet she gave me a choice, and I appreciate that. read more
