With that mind set, those if us on the edge and needing help will just have to go through several first visits with several psychologist and tell our story and explain our symptoms several times and pay several hundreds of dollars in the meantime. And if you're like me, there are times you have laid in bed in the deepest of anxiety hells, contemplating pulling the trigger just to escape the intense fear in your head. The clock may be running out on people like you and me. We don't have time for psychologist that won't simply say, "yes, I've seen this before and I believe I can help. I am a nutrition nerd who reads and studies up on food as medicine, but after years of VERY stressful life situations and trying to self manage my diet, I was still lethargic and moody, even with a squeaky clean diet (no grains, no sugar, no diary). Many of us know that when you can't fix things yourself through diet, there's likely something else going on. It was time to see a doctor who practices functional medicine. Around this time, I also learned that my sister has a specific genetic mutation that could impact my health, so I threw that on the agenda. I arrived at the office with a list of things I needed her input on. She took time to sit with me, review the very detailed medical history questionnaire and listen to what was going on. She was careful and thorough during our visit. She spent an entire hour and a half with me - reviewing my history. No interruptions. No sitting in a room for 45 minutes waiting to speak to the doctor. Me and Dr. Curtis - discussing my issues one on one for over an hour. Who does that anymore? No one. It's not surprising that this level of treatment comes at a cost. Functional doctors can be pricey, but I knew that beforehand. I was also prepared to pay out of pocket if need be as insurance may not cover some of the tests or supplements. My health and the knowledge I gain by working with Dr. Curtis is worth any amount I pay. I am learning how to cope with the stresses of life - what supplements help me in which ways. Which foods work well for my body and which result in negative consequences. My father died young of a sudden heart attack and I am convinced that had I not seen Dr. Curtis, learned the details of my genetic makeup and what lifestyle modifications I needed to make - I would end up with the same fate. The fees I pay for office visits, diagnostic tests and the like are investments in MY health. I'm taking control of my health vs. resorting to pharmacutical remedies and I believe that this investment is worth every penny. I am so very grateful to Dr. Curtis for the work that she does. I can tell by her demeanor that she is doing this work from her heart. She is mindful of the cost of the supplements that she recommends. For example, I was on a 21 day gut rebuilding diet which necessitated a specialized protein powder supplement that was expensive. After the 21 days were up, she and I discussed what to do with the leftover powder and she recommended I use the rest up for meal replacements since it would be wasteful to throw it out and she'd hate for me to lose the $ I'd spent buying it. She also gives samples of supplements to try to make sure it will work with your body composition before you purchase a full bottle. I could not ask for more in a doctor than what Dr. Curtis provides. She is knowledgable, compassionate and she listens. She's not rushing you out of the office because she has to see 5 patients an hour. She is there for you during your appointment time. Her attention is focused on you and your needs. If this is the type of doctor - patient relationship you're looking for, look no further. I recommend AFM and Dr. Curtis to anyone with health challenges. I am a customer for life!

We originally started here because we were told they offered family counseling. After the initial intake, we were told they actually could not provide family counseling and that the therapist would work individually with our child. We decided to give it a fair chance and continued for about nine months. After nine months, we felt our child had spent enough time working individually and that it was time to move toward family counseling. We were told that family counseling could work hand-in-hand with the individual therapy. Unfortunately, after going through two additional intakes with two therapist making us having tried three different ones at this practice, we were again told that they did not actually offer the type of family counseling we were looking for and instead suggested parenting counseling. The straw that broke the camels back was it was beyond obvious the last intake that the therapist didn't even read all the forms we completed for background knowledge before speaking with us. That was not what we were seeking. We weren't looking for someone to teach us how to parent; we were looking for therapeutic support involving our family as a whole and the dynamics we were trying to address together. Both of us have backgrounds in psychology and special education, so we felt very confident in our parenting and knew that what we needed was family-based counseling rather than parenting education. Ultimately, we feel that we spent approximately three additional months and put our child through multiple intake appointments, only to find out that the therapist we were paired with did not provide the type of counseling we had originally been told was available. I do want to mention that we had a significant billing issue at one point, and the office staff was very responsive and did a great job getting that resolved. I appreciated their help with that. Overall, our biggest issue was the lack of clarity about what services were actually offered. I would strongly recommend confirming exactly what type of family counseling is provided before committing to the intake process, particularly if that is the primary reason you are seeking services.
