Lovely little gallery of gifts, artwork and jewelry. I would have stayed longer, but I was on edge with my small children walking between these very delicate pieces. Lots of very nice silver and gold jewelry items, along with unique windchimes, glass art, wood carvings, ceramic items, and also a small addition with kids gifts and decorations (e.g. beaded hummingbirds - we brought one home!) . Plenty in range of gift pricing, but the artwork is definitely on the expensive side and the quality justifies it. The gallery itself has a beautiful view, and the kids enjoyed stretching out their legs walking around the pretty grounds. Note: it is off a one-laner road on the northwest side of Maui on the way towards the airport. The drive is probably not for the faint of heart / stomach given the windiness. read more

This gallery is magical. Coming here is like a pilgrimage, you have to want it. It's located on a hill overlooking the ocean, after driving on a one lane road up a cliff, with the ocean on the other side. The gallery features works from local artists and sells paintings , ceramics, jewelry, decorative objects for the home, such as coasters, trivets, dish towels. We took a drive from our hotel in Kahana and found Karen Lei's Gallery by accident. It was a pleasant surprise because it was in a very rural area where there are hardly any houses or businesses. We drive in a very narrow road and turned a corner and saw the gallery. I was impressed with the many beautiful items that was in the gallery. I thought it would mainly have paintings, but it had lots of different items, big selection. The jewelry was beautiful, a lot to choose from, pearls, rings, bracelets, earrings etc from different materials. So many items, the pictures will give you an idea of some of the items in the gallery. Great gifts for someone or yourself, I'am so glad we stopped. This place is located ON the beaten path and has a bunch of "art" that you can find ANYWHERE in Hawaii or on Amazon. It's absolutely nothing special and not worth stopping at. We pulled over and spent $50 (literally!) on a stuffed animal and an iPhone case. We spent that solely because our daughter (age 5) had to use the restroom and their restroom was for customers only (totally respect that). The women at the counter made some pretty unconvincing claim that "the plumbing was out". I asked VERY nicely if our 5 year old daughter could use the restroom and they just continued what seemed like an obviously lie. They clearly couldn't be inconvenienced to unlock the bathroom for a little girl after her parents spent $50 in their junk store. I asked agin very nicely just before we left and was told that there's other places she could go along the road. I really tried to appeal to them since it was crystal clear they didn't care. The one gal didn't even look up from her phone. I said "she's going to have to find a bush, I guess hopefully our $50 helps fix your plumbing" Let's be HONEST I get that this is a remote location that many a tourist would use and not patronize. The sign on the bathroom door says it is for customers only and we were customers. We spent PLENTY of money of their junk in the hopes of allowing our daughter a shred of dignity. OBVIOUSLY these employees have access to restrooms and don't slink off to a bush for their restroom breaks. Aside from all that BS I can unequivocally state this place has nothing more than trinkets and trash for the unsuspecting and unlucky tourist. It's an "art gallery" in the same way that McDonald's is a gourmet burger joint. read more

Take a ride around the north west end of the island and you will find this beautiful gallery of art. Owner keeps a clean, up to date and comfortable store. There's tables and chairs to sit and rest and enjoy the view. Because I was bicycling around that part of the island, it was a Blessing to have refreshments and rest at that point. I am here on vacation and I have friends that will be joining us next week. We will be sure to visit this store again. Not on a bicycle this time. read more

I noticed a necklace a co-worker was wearing and she mentioned that she bought it at this boutique, so I decided to drive out there on my day off to check it out. The store is PACKED with jewelery and some art by the owner but a lot of other pieces by other artists as well. I am writing this review for two reasons: 1) the girl working behind the counter should not be talking to the public 2) the necklace I bought broke not even a week after I bought it. The counter girl was borderline rude the entire time I was looking through the shop. The first necklace I looked at (didn't try it on) she said "are you going to buy this?" ... no... I am still looking. She was extremely rude and made me feel unwelcomed. I cringed when tourists walked in the door, happy and enjoying their vacation, because she was such a downer and borderline mean. I have been in customer service on Maui for 19 years and know that is not the way you treat your Ka'amaina or Vistors. The necklace I bought was nice, "made by the artist (Karen)" but poorly made. The wire broke a few days after I bought it and had started to rust, because they had cheaped out and not used stainless steel wire. I went on Etsy and found similar necklaces and pendants for half the price. I restrung the necklace myself (because I make jewelry) but not what you expect when you pay over $100 for a piece. I LOVE to support our local businesses, and I can afford to, but I will never buy another piece from this gallery and will encourage anyone I know to avoid it. Buy something on Etsy and support an artist who knows how to make jewelry and (as mentioned in other posts) will refund your money with a smile because the customer is always right! read more

We stopped in intending to pick up souvenirs to send to family on the mainland. The owner herself was at the counter and told a tourist she didn't need to wear a mask inside. I looked at my fellow travelers, 3 of us, and saw another shopper join us as we made a beeline for the exit. This is my all time favorite gift shop. It is so good that I went back 3 times during my 1 week stay on Maui. Absolutely beautiful pieces from several local artists. All sales associates are kind and approachable. If you asked me what the best thing about this place is, I would say the prices. Very reasonable prices for Maui. I bought a Kia wood box for under $200 as well as a Titanium/Koa wood wedding band for $200. The drive is awesome! Though it is a one way road for the distal portion, it is not well traveled so we didn't have any major problems. There is also a good truck there that serves some real good food!! Lots of great gifts and many are unique to local artists. I stop here every trip to Maui. And I also bring my lunch , and enjoy the view sitting for their tables on the bluff. A welcome stop on a unique drive. The people leaving negative reviews probably don't enjoy real local artists, and prefer junk or just wanted to use the bathroom for free. read more

First off, I wanna say that I LOVE MAUI. And this was my second time going through kahakuloa way since they paved the roads. One of my friends that was visiting with us is an artist so we decided to check out this gallery. When we got there it was a little busy, there was maybe a group of 5 tourist people. And the lady behind the counter was talking up a storm with them, all smiles and happy. Now I'd say we were in that store for about a good 30 min browsing, she didn't say anything to us at all, my friends went up to purchase a shot glass, and the lady behind the counter, (same lady that was talking to the people said not ONE word To them except for the price of the shot glass. I honestly thought that was SOOOOOOOO RUDE!!!! How could she be happy one moment then rude the next? Was it because we weren't tourist? Was it because we look young? Was it because we're kama'aina? Again I am NOT racist I don't understand how people can keep getting away with this. We live in Hawaii! It's so diverse there should be no racism at all! So look if your reading this, I hope you change your attitude for the sake of the tourist and whoever stops at your gallery. read more

This place popped up in the middle of nowhere! We came upon it while driving around the west side of the island on a 90+ degree day and we were SO glad that we stopped. It is an air conditioned, shop filled with art, crafts, jewelry, pottery, something for everyone. They offer ice cream bars and cold drinks for sale from a refrigerator on the front porch. Don't be a whimp and skip the journey to the Kaukini Gallery. To get there continue north through Kapalua, keep going until you hit Julia's Banana Bread (stop there too), then continue on...try not to be scared of the "road to Hana-like" curvy highway. You may be thinking, "there's an art gallery out here?". I guarantee that by the time you get there you'll have to pee, and if you do the restroom is for customers only-so be sure and buy something! We bought a beautiful print for our nursery. This stop was one of the highlights of our drive.

As others have attested, Kaukini Gallery is a great sample of Maui artists with lovely, authentic art for any economic range. From $12,000 sculptures to $5 handmade ceramic frogs, you can find something in your price range! We came away with beautiful, handmade necklaces, a sterling silver bracelet shaped like a wave, two framed prints, and, lava glass earrings, among other things! The staff is very friendly and helpful, and the place is beautiful. Parking lot is small. Be patient. Wait for this place. I am sad I will never return as the Road to Hana is too f-in scary, but that's okay. Once was enough, and we now have something lovely from Maui artists to take home. read more

We take this trek down the single cliff twisty road every time we come to Maui. I love this gallery and all its treasures, there is amazing local artist paintings, sculptures, jewlery, trinkets. Love places with local flair and this was no exception! Had refreshments to purchase and every piece of local art you can think of, she even ships the art for a fee to your home!!! We bought a tshirt that said we survived the drive (lol) and a cute trivet for my mother. And thankfully she has a very clean restroom. (Customers only, don't be a jerk, buy something) Views from here were breathtaking. Her selection was gorgeous, I wish I actually wore jewelry because I would've gone broke. Definitely a diamond in the rough. And the woman who runs the shop? Sweet lady! Glad we shopped locally and were able to stretch our legs and enjoy the scenery on a bench outside. read more

What an awesome gallery with the nicest staff. We weren't sure what to expect when we pulled off the road so we were prepared for pretension and turned up noses at the child but were greeted with warmth and smiles. They have gorgeous jewelry and cool unique decorative everyday pieces. I got the child a framed Heather Brown print for her room. The ladies working were the sweetest. This is about my favorite gallery in Maui. The gallery sits right on the coast and gives you and amazing view. The drive their terrifies me since it is so high in the mountains and ummm no guard rails on the road... but I do loving going there. The gallery has tons of jewelry, art and pottery from local artists. This place can be a little pricey but if you want to get someone something special and one of a kind from Maui this is the place to go. Be very careful of what you purchase. We purchased an expensive glass bowl to commemorate our 50th anniversary. Were told at the counter that the artist would make one just like it and it would be mailed to us. Two months later it arrived, not at all the same quality as the one in the store. Called and the manager said oh, I'm sure it will be taken care of. Thus followed numerous emails the owner, Karen. She would not give me a phone number to speak to her directly, not even a cell phone so I could send a video of the bowl spinning when slightly touched for at least 32 seconds. I would have been very nervous that the bowl could end up spinning off my mantle or table. She claimed not to see the differences in the bowl. But they showed clearly to the couple that had been with us and to others who viewed it. Even the Gentleman who owned the packing store that I had specially pack and ship it back to Hawaii from NC could tell it wasn't worth what I was charged. And he commented on the spinning. After it was received in HI i once again received a call from the manager of the Lahaina shop but not the owner. She finally said they would agree to refund my money. How generous of them. But oh yes, wait a minute .... they would not refund the money to return it although she claims they sold it the next day. So the owner is out nothing, she resold the bowl I returned. I asked if they would at least meet me half way as the bowl was shipped from the artist in CA but I had to ship it all the way back to to HI. She said she would check with the owner. You guessed it, the answer was no. So she has both the original and the one I returned to her. While I have no bowl and am out $124 for the return shipping and some very bad memories. So much for a 50th anniversary special gift. So buy all the little touristy things you want in the store, but as for calling it a gallery - buyer be ware. If you can't walk out with the specific item, run don't walk out the door! I would have rated this a -5 if I could. read more
