I was greeted at the door and given a personal tour of the gallery. The Prairie Print Makers exhibition was still going on when I visited. I think 200-some pieces from regional artists were hung in the main gallery, and there were hundreds more pieces in the side rooms. The staff were very friendly and informed about the artists and works in their collection. I enjoyed the tour, and I wish I had more time to look through the pieces in the back rooms. I recommend paying a visit to Mid-America Fine Arts to fans and collectors living near or visiting Wichita.

I moved to Wichita on a long-term but temporary assignment for work, having never visited or even met anyone from Wichita. On my 3rd day in town, I happened to pick up a CityArts catalog at a local coffee shop and immediately scrambled to make the registration deadline for the Silversmithing class. This is honestly the best move I've made in ages -- the class is CHEAP at $125 for 10 weeks/25 hours of instruction and so so so so so worth it. I've now taken 2 terms and am sad to be signing up for my final term before leaving my assignment in Kansas. Kathy has been an AMAZING teacher -- I've gone from knowing near NOTHING about metalwork to designing and crafting brass and silver pieces that strangers have asked to purchase. I could not recommend Kathi's classes more emphatically.

I live in Los Angeles and walked into a small boutique store in Duluth Minnesota and saw the only…read moreart piece that has ever spoken to me - it was Scott's "Branded Embrace with a Twist". Problem was that the color was black and white which didn't match our home decor. I thought that if I got in touch with the artist he might be willing to customize a piece for our home. I tracked down Scott and as much as we ADORE what he created for us the business/personal experience with him is nothing like I have ever experienced: we emailed him pictures of our dinning room and spent an hour on a conference call with Scott getting advice from him on what might work best (colors) for our home. I mean really - what small or large business would do this?? Fast forward - just got our art piece yesterday and were blown away by its beauty. Our neighbors couldn't agree more!! The packaging that he used to mail the pieces (two boxes) must have taken him forever to pack! He included a glass base that I had mentioned and even a tube of glue if I needed it. Wow! After emailing and speaking with Scott several times there is no doubt that he is in this business for the love of what he can create and give to others. We will cherish this gift forever! The Dale Chihuly glass exhibit was amazing…read more In the main art exhibit (free to visit - no charge), I saw exactly 1 painting that took my breath away. The rest were pretty bleh. I am from the East Coast, by the Smithsonian and all DC museums. I have been spoiled by art my whole life. I have also taken art and art history courses. My partner said the good art is at the bigger museums. He is not wrong! So what's left over is what's here at this smaller museum in the middle of the country. That's sad. People in this area deserve to see beautiful art too. The visiting exhibit is awful right now. I don't want to say what it is. But it's just awful and we paid $6 per person to see it. I looked at everything and had to get out of there. Nothing enjoyable. The museum was packed. I think we went on Valentine's Day or thereabouts. We got food. It took quite a while to get the food. Else enjoyed the live jazz! Or at least I did! Nothing like live jazz. I am an artist and I would love to have my art in this museum - then I know beautiful art would be hanging up that people would enjoy looking at. Driving home, my partner said he wouldn't pay $6 to see that visiting art exhibit again, but he would pay $100 to see my art - which is hanging in his own living room! I feel very sad about my review. But it's my truth. Art is subjective , I suppose. I hope future exhibits knock it out of the park. Hopefully this was just a low point for the museum.

In fact, the Fisch Haus has anchored the south Commerce arts district, since it was founded in 1993 by Patrick Duegaw, John Ernatt, Eric Schmidt and Kent Williams. The 3-story warehouse contains studio and gallery spaces, and currently hosts 5 resident artists. Throughout the year, Fisch Haus hosts festivals such as the K.N.O.B. New Music Festival and OPERANIME, as well as a Tuesday night Jazz Series and a summer artist-in-residence program. Fisch Haus is a great place to stop by on "Final Friday" art gallery walks.
