Came here for a wedding welcome party and it was beautiful! Out in sort of the middle of no where, there was a Bob Dylan cover band also playing an event so there were lots of people already there. We started out with champagne bubbly in the basement which, admittedly was a bit too small to hold all 80+ folks but that's not on the winery. They allow you to walk around the vineyard and they have he cutest resident kitties! We had dinner up in the loft, which was also pretty cramped and hot given the weather that day, but the vegan lasagna and salad were both so yummy! Karlo Estates was legitimately the highlight of my trip to the county. I had a great time visiting them and I already look forward to the next time going back! When we first got to the winery, at the parking lot, we had a little fun encounter with a dog owner who was trying to get his new puppy out of the cars she was hiding underneath in. After we successfully got the puppy out (thank goodness!), us and the dog owner just had the most amazing time chatting inside the bar area of the winery. It was such a beautifully decorated speakeasy. Not only the wine collection was tasty, the hostess LA was super friendly + attentive. We felt like we were just hanging out with some long time friends there and hours gone by just like that! Karlo may be a bit too popular without the right level of staffing - it's definitely a bit difficult to get consistent timely service during peak hours. The wine tasting is simply at $4 an oz for any of the wines on the menu, which is definitely on the higher end compared to the rest of PEC. It's a bit disappointing to see as I would appreciate more details on the selection of wines through a more curated experience. The tasting area is all situated in a large converted barn, which gives it a nice rustic vibe, though the choice of decorating with velvet sofas may be a turn off for some, and/or instagram bait for others. It's hard to imagine giving Karlo a second visit without an upgrade to their service and menu. read more

Karlo Estates winery offers lots of photo ops with their beautiful scenic property both inside and outside. After exploring a bit, we discovered the chill Speakeasy downstairs. Karlo Estates was the final stop on a wine tour and perhaps my favourite, no disrespect to the other wineries that I visited earlier. Sherry Karlo, co-founder, owner, and vintner, and her partner, Saxe Brickenden led us through a carefully orchestrated walking tour of the property. They made it personal, interesting, and educational. We learned a lot about grapes, soil, climate, and the entire winemaking process. Our walking tour took us through the vineyard, with stops along the way to explain the different types of grapes, the soil they grow in and the types of wine they produce. We stopped at a handmade stone bridge spanning Hubbs Creek. There were a few bottles of wine chilling in the creek and some paired nibbles on a wine barrel waiting for us. The bridge presented a perfect photo op for our large group. I told you it was carefully orchestrated! And very much appreciated! Our tour included their storage, bottling, and packaging facility, all on site. We had dinner in their rustic dining room and then it was back on the bus for the trek home. Thank you Sherry and Saxe! I've been to pretty much every winery in the County, and many of them I've visited handfuls of times...but I have to say that Karlo is my new all-time favourite. Why? 1) Lovely, bright and sunny tasting room where you can sit at a table with your party or sit at the bar while you leisurely taste wines 2) Free little pairings (cheese, nuts) that really complement the wines 3) Great wines! Personally, I love their Quintas red, it's outstanding...and their Reisling is lovely too. They also make red and white ports. Bottom line, Karlo should definitely be on your Prince Edward County wine-tour! (P.S. My other favourite County wines are from Long Dog, Norman Hardie and Rosehall Run) read more

Since I was the only one there, it was like a private VIP event! The tasting room here is really nicely set up in a sun room overlooking the vineyard. Karlo Estate is one of my fave wineries in the Prince Edward County. $1 for 1 oz. tasting WITH food pairing... who can complain about that lol. It was a fantastic experience to bring out their signature wines! And with the check in offer from Yelp, we each got a free sample too! There were 8 wines available, we have decided to try them all lol. The service from the lady bartender was excellent. She was working alone on the floor and still managed to greet everyone and start them on the tasting adventure. We tasted the following: Gilmour Orus (white) w/ walnuts * Lake on the mountain Riesling w/ roasted garlic Gilmour Maddison (rosé) w/ wasabi beans * Sangiovese (red) w/ savoury roasted almonds * Cabernet Franc w/ Asiago cheese Gilmour Corazon (red) w/ salted cashews * Quintus (red) w/ Cheddar cheese 5th Element (red) w/ walnuts * Those are my fave! Most of their wine are mixed wines. For example, the Quintus is made up of 5 different reds. I ended up buying the Riesling ($22). Sweet and delicious, and I loved the roasted garlic pairing! It would be perfect to have this wine with a garlicky dish at home! I would definitely recommend this winery :) read more

This was our last and favorite winery in the PEC on this trip. They have a small selection of wines (about 5-8) to choose from but they were all delicious. They also offer various food pairs for the tasting experience. We purchased a bottle of gwurtztremeiner and marquette, and the tasting of 3 came free with the purchase of 2 bottles. The outdoor space was great as well; there's a little stone bridge on the other side of the vineyard for great photo ops. Overall this was a very enjoyable visit. read more

Visiting Karlo Estate Winery is easily one of the best decisions you can make when visiting Prince Edward County. The winery grounds are stunning with acres upon acres of vines, a gorgeous barn and restaurant for buying, sampling and dining, and touring their production facilities is as professional as awe-striking as you could imagine! The proprietor Sherry and her partner Saxe are so warm and down to earth that a day with them is akin to visiting family - but the family who know really good wine (not the ones that buy the cheap stuff for family get togethers). Their tour was extremely well laid out, taking us through various carefully planned stops throughout the property where we would learn something else about the winery while a new bottle of wine would magically appear (at one point one was pulled from a cold creek as if by magic). Also of note is that the wine is vegan certified, meaning that no animal products are used in the maturation process, so it's 100% safe for anyone to enjoy (except kids because you know legal drinking age and all). I'm a total fan-boy for Karlo Estate and can't wait to return very soon! read more

I've been to a bunch of PEC wineries. Karlo stands out for their lovely sunroom where you can do wine tastings at a leisurely pace. A few wineries have nice garden patios, but Karlo's tasting room is great year round -- they even have fuzzy blankets and heaters to keep you warm (which was much appreciated on a November visit). They have a wide varieties of wines on offer, but their red and white ports are the most unique! Service is always friendly here. read more

I can echo the previous reviews. Set in a refurbished 1800's barn it has a real charm. Tasting bar at the front entrance is very cozy and the friendly staff expertly pair tiny bits of food with the wine of your choice. You can also stay a while and enjoy a glass in the back sunroom which is more spacious and brightly lit. I thought it would be out of my price range but ended up buying 3 bottles to take home. The Riesling and Rose are the best in the region I've found, and they are very up-front about their origins and the pricing. read more

I went to this winery on a recent PEC camping trip and it did not disappoint. The ambiance is relaxed and there's amole room for larger groups. They do all their tastings with a food pairing, which even though it's small, is a nice extra touch. The Lake on the Mountain Riesling was the stand out for me, but I only sampled the whites and the Rose while I was there. The tastings are included if you buy 2 or more bottles, so even though I was going to use the free tasting from checking in on yelp, I didn't need to. Definitely worth a trip, and it's close to other great spots like Hinterland and Norman Hardie. read more

They were already about to close but still welcomed us in as their last customers. The wine tasting is free which is a big plus. This place had good wine, our favorite being the Niagra Riesling. That said, service was rough. They had a hard time keeping up with wine tour groups. With only one cash register, we waited 20 minutes to buy our wine before we were able to chill at a table. The wine itself, gets 5 stars. Honestly, it was great. I know absolutely nothing about wine, but it was ... yummy. The minus two stars, was the blond girl I had to listen to the entire time we were there. First she seemed completely uninterested in the fact that we were there. During our tasting, she literally complained to a co-worker, RIGHT IN FRONT OF US that we asked for a cheese plate with our tasting (we were tasting 5 different varieties, there were four of us and we figured it would be a good snack and go with the tasting). The tasting was $1 per bottle we tasted, the cheese plate was $15. On top of that, whenever we asked questions about the wine, we got this "are you retarded" kind of response. We ended up purchasing two bottles of wine, because well, the wine was great. The previous winery we had visited we had purchased 6 bottles. Well, guess what, quite likely the attitude we received impacted our decision as to how much to spend. read more

Karlo has one of the nicest tasting rooms in the County, situated behind a beautifully restored barn. They have a wide range of wines available for tasting, and offer some food such as nuts or cheese plates to accompany the tasting, which is really nice. Staff vary in their knowledge and friendliness, and we have encountered the range from good to indifferent here. The wines themselves are still evolving as the winemaker comes to grip with the fruit and the terroir, but I have to say I am rather fond of their Quintus, more so than any others here. The bar area upon the entrance to the barn is also very nice and cozy, with an old piano situated in the corner, giving it a more vintage feel. You cannot go wrong with $1 (generous) tastings that also come with a FOOD pairing. The staff were so friendly, passionate and beyond enthusiastic which added to the experience. best winery experience in the county no doubt!!! been here on few occasions. the place is a class. located in an old barn which was beautiful restored makes you feel you walked into the right place. the wines are pretty tasty as well... although some what highly priced (average at around $25) the wine tasting however is on another level. when you try all 8 offerings they are each paired with anther food group (olives, various cheeses, salami, sweet nuts for the ports etc) the portions are very generous and the hospitality is great. we always end up buying a bottle or two as the experience is totally worth while! been to 90% of the wineries and there is no doubt this one is by far the best experience...not to be missed! read more
