Being able to pick up my (large) bakery order and not leaving someone disappointed at home makes me happy. Had my list of must haves. I meandered through all the departments. Wasn't on a time schedule. I spent 2 hours in the store. Found beautiful baby lamb chops. Filets were $6/lb cheaper than my grocery store. Bought beautiful endive. Had to bring home the red wine peppered salami. Coming home, opening the cooler, and handing out foodie presents is like Christmas morning. The oohs and aahs were heard at multiple houses. The staff were very helpful finding my treasures. Wegmans trips make traveling for business worth it.

I found it to be quite a good store, with everything you could want: my weird health-food desires like coconut flour and buckwheat groats (that I usually have to visit specialty stores for); pharmacy supplies; lots of pre-made food; diverse international offerings; plenty of organic and pre-cut produce; flowers, etc. Despite it being my first time, I was able to navigate it without too much difficulty. When they were out of green onions, a friendly worker was able to refill the bin quickly for me (and direct me to the spacious, clean bathrooms). They have tons of checkout lines, only a couple were open with humans; and they have lots of self-checkout too. I mean, it's just a grocery store, but it's a pretty good one!

Walking into People's Provisions feels like stepping straight into someone's dream for a better…read morefood system -- and realizing it actually exists. The mission of People's Provisions is to connect farmers and eaters, pay farmers fairly, and make fresh, local food accessible to everyone. They've built a small-but-mighty grocery that prioritizes community, equity, and real relationships with local growers. This isn't just a shop; it's a purpose-driven project that redefines what a neighborhood food space can be. On my visit, the first thing that struck me was how warm and welcoming the shop felt. It's super cute inside -- lots of wood, shelves lined with curated curiosities, and that perfectly cozy vibe that makes you want to linger. The space is small, but somehow they've managed to pack in an astonishing amount of fresh produce, spices, refrigerated and frozen items, baked goods, fresh-cut flowers and herbs, and so much more. My brain could not stop trying to figure out how they get so much beautifully arranged inventory inside such a compact footprint. Honestly, Dollar General could take notes on organization and presentation from these folks. The staff member working greeted me warmly as soon as I walked in and was genuinely happy and pleasant. After I made my selections, she chatted with me at the counter, and the entire interaction felt like I was shopping somewhere that truly values the people who walk through their door. One of my favorite parts of the visit came at checkout. Their flyer explains that when you pay, they'll ask you, "Is this price alright with you today?" -- and they mean it. You can pay whatever amount works for you. If you need to pay less, you're encouraged to. If you can pay more, it helps support someone else. And sure enough, when the cashier tallied up my total, she asked me that exact question. It was such a powerful moment. You don't see that kind of compassion and community-centered thinking in retail. This model could make a massive difference for people who are struggling, and it proves there is genuine heart behind this business. I have deep respect for what People's Provisions is doing to support food access in our community. They're not just selling groceries; they're actively reshaping what food justice looks like in real time. For my purchase, I grabbed a bag of locally made shiitake mushroom jerky -- my first time ever trying mushroom jerky -- and it was FABULOUS. Spicy (but not too spicy), chewy, earthy, and ridiculously satisfying. A new obsession has been born. I can't recommend this place enough, not just as a retailer where you can keep your dollars local, but as an experience worth having. Wander the shop, chat with the staff, soak in the energy, support the mission, and feel like you're a part of something important. Is People's Provisions out of my way? Oh, absolutely -- it is a solid 40-minute round-trip detour for me every single day of the week. But will I be going back as often as humanly possible to look, buy, support, and be part of the community they're building? YES. Without hesitation, without question, and with a very full heart. I'm so thankful to live somewhere where a business like this exists -- and thrives -- with a mission like theirs.
