What a great way to enter a new state! A Welcome Center on I-55!!! We were greeted by Ms Tammy, who…read morewas an absolute sweetheart!!! She greeted us with a beautiful and radiant smile! She then offered us coffee. While I waited for the young one to rush off to a restroom break, we got to talking. Come to find out she lived in the Los Angeles area and has returned to this area. This site likes to collect some general info which I think is a great idea! The questions are broad: how many are traveling with you and note them in the appropriate boxes (believe me the age ranges are pretty broad). They also ask for the state you are from and your zip code. This is a WiFi hot spot! They stock plenty of information for the sites and tourist attractions! Thank you Tammy for your warm welcome!

My wife and I stopped at the Mississippi Welcome Center while heading back home to Memphis after…read moreour trip to New Orleans. Nothing too crazy or special about this stop, but it did exactly what we needed it to do and gave us a nice place to get out of the car for a few minutes. The property itself is pretty nice and well maintained. There are plenty of trees and landscaped areas around the building, along with benches if you want to sit outside, stretch your legs, and enjoy a little break before getting back on the road. Of course, we had to get a couple pictures with the Mississippi signs while we were there. One thing to know is that the information center is closed on the weekends. We stopped on a weekend, so we were not able to go inside and check out any of the travel information or speak with anyone. If you are specifically stopping for maps, brochures, or information about Mississippi, you may want to keep that in mind. For us, it was mainly just a quick rest stop during the drive from New Orleans back to Memphis. It gave us a chance to stretch, walk around for a few minutes, take some pictures, and then continue the trip home. Overall, it is a basic and decent welcome center. The grounds looked clean and taken care of, there was room to walk around, and it served its purpose. Nothing that I would go out of my way for, but if you are passing through and need a quick break from driving, it is a perfectly good place to stop.
