But as a dedicated yelper, I will dive in a bit deeper. :-D We met a bunch of friends (We were 10 altogether) at Michaeligarten and were super excited to try their food. And we were rewarded with great Krustenbraten, calves liver, soups, and salads. The service on the other hand... oh well. We came early, the restaurant was almost empty. So we thought service might be great. But as it so often is, the slower business is the slower the service. Our waiter, let's call him Martin (I guess that was actually his name, ha) was not happy with us being there and *gasp* demanding his attention. So he was slow... very slow. And he hid from us. We had to flag down other people to ask him to come over. When we asked for stuff, he got defensive (my friend ordered a hot apple cider with cinnamon cream, the cream had no cinnamon in it, he got angry with her because HE didn't put the cream on the cider LOL. She asked him to return it to the kitchen and get the right cream. He came back and told her the chef mixed up his cream dispensers. No apology. I asked for the WIFI password, he told me their network was slow. I told him I didn't care, I just wanted to get online. He told me, my LTE would be faster. I told him I didn't have Internet since I was traveling from abroad and didn't want to pay roaming fees. He finally gave me the password. All in all, it was a nice evening because I hadn't seen my friends in over 2 years and the food was good. We had fun with Martin, because he seemed to hate us so much. And we still gave him a tip, because we are nice people :-D

We came here for dinner on a Friday night last summer and opted to sit outside to catch a bit of a breeze on a hot day. We ordered the Wiener Schnitzel with roasted potatoes, an order of Spätzle, the roasted Romanesco salad with goat cheese and an order of Apfelküchle with vanilla ice cream. The food was pretty good and this would have been a 4-star review if the service would not have been so slow. It took a really long time to be able flag down our waitress so that she could take our orders and then it seem to take forever and a day until the food came out.

The scenery from this biergarten is really nice, settled under the trees and next to an old hotel - which is structurally pleasant to look at - the beer runs cold, the ducks float freely down the Wuerm, and it's hard to think you're still actually within Munich! I like this place because it is a bit off the beaten track, and although it does fill up, it has a nice crowd of people looking to have a good time. The food is about standard for the rest of the biergartens around Munich (however, I have not yet tried their chicken so I don't know how it holds up agains the reigning champ - in my opinion - the Hirschgarten). My fiancee and I enjoy riding our bikes to Insel-Muehle because (from our house) it is not only great excercise for us, but our dog as well. We get about 3/4 of the way there and take a quick swim before heading to the biergarten for a "treat".

It's a mix of German and Balkan food. We dropped in on a Thursday afternoon (around 1:45pm) and it was filled with a small group of German seniors enjoying the sunshine. Seems like a lot of regulars come here. There's no English menu (we asked) but our server was extremely helpful and spoke excellent English. The menu consists of bread, sausages, warm food, small plates and grilled dishes. Their drink menu is extremely cheap and reasonable. - Radler (€2,90 for 0,5L) - they mix their radler with 7 Up. Not much taste wise but it's light. - Weissbier (€3,20 for 0,5L) - supposedly malty but to me, it was light. Typical German beer. - Pfannkuchensuppe (€3,00) - German pancake soup. Broth is a light, clear soup; reminded me of chicken noodle soup. The strips of pancake were interesting but plain. - Pommes (€3,00) - a side of thin cut fries with a package of curry ketchup. These reminded me of McDonald style fries. Decent filler. - Grillteller (€12,90) - served with djuvec rice, raw chopped onions and ajvar (red bell pepper and oil sauce). The grilled meat platter included a spicy sausage, two cevapcici, kalbsleber (calf liver) and pork. All the meat was excellently grilled but our favourite cuts were the pork (juicy and moist) and spicy sausage (tasty with a slight kick to it). Worth a visit especially if you want a more local beer garden experience.

There are biergartens for the average person and then there is this one, a posh bourgeoise…read morebiergarten for those who want a bit of a high end experience ;-)) It would have to be the poshest biergarten I have been to in Munich. The place has a lovely posh white cloth restaurant with a nice outdoor terrace and of course you can get table service here. There is also a self service Biergarten here with food and beer. The self service area has a smokehouse where you can get smoked ribs and other BBQ meats. The restaurant menu is quite extensive with a variety of Bavarian dishes. I chose the Wild Saibling filet which came with a risotto and foam. The risotto was nice and creamy and tasted great but the fish was slightly overcooked for my linking. I did however clean my plate. I also tasted the other dishes our group ordered and it was also good. The food is presented beautifully and looks like modern German/Bavarian cuisine. It is a fairly expensive Biergarten and it was approximately €30 per person for a drink, meal, coffee and water, a bit pricey for lunch. I imagine dinner prices are higher than that. I would come back here again. It's quieter and the focus is on presentation and good quality. A nice location close to the Isar.
